Rasta Experience w/ U.S Customs....

I know we have quite a few international TAs on these boards and many whom I assume travel. I was wondering specifically how flying & going through customs is...... do they check random people, how do they check you etc. etc.

I just wanna know what u can get away with basically

Rasta

i've been through customs a couple of times. when i was little my family and i would go to mexico every so often, but i don't remember them giving us too much of a hassle. same with my trips back from europe. but, i'm sure they hassle people coming from suspect countries that might bring illegal goods back with them. like, if you came from colombia or some other infamous country. my friend told me in vancouver they have US customs in the airport, so you don't have to go through it when you get back to your destination.

I'm going to be honest with you, it depends what you look like, and what kind of car you drive.

Customs never touch me, just a quick check of the form and I'm through.....even the time I declared I was holding $20,000 in GB Sterling Travellers Cheques they didn't care or ask why!

The INS folks are much less fun, even British charm doesn't cheer them up. I swear as part of their training all emotion is removed from their souls

Going through customs at LAX is a load of bullshit.

The organisation is terrible for an international airport, and it takes about 2 hours to get through customs.

They make you check-in first, then you have to go and lineup at a separate part of the terminal. When you finally reach the front of the line, they open your suitcase and check it by hand before marking it "OK" and sending it on its way on the conveyor belt.

Next, you have to join another long line (was almost out the door last time) where you wait before going through the departure gate. They check you with metal detectors etc, make some people take off their shoes, and they x-ray your carry-on baggage as well. I think they were inspecting bags by hand last time as well, but i'm not sure.

well seeds don't smell so i don't see a big problem in that regard

a lot of people i know put them into ziplocs and then into a shampoo bottle. supposedly works like a charm.

if that worries you, try your socks curled under your toes.
