Huge pro-Syria rally in Beirut
Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in Beirut to show support for Syria and protest against Western intervention. The rally, organised by Hizballah, dwarfed previous rallies that demanded the withdrawal of Syria. Doesn't look like things are goin as well for Lebanon as many hoped (and looks like a good proportion of people dont want Syria to leave) I have a really bad feeling about this especially when it was civil war here 15 years ago...

no, it's tens of thousands of Hizbollah supporters
Hizbllah= murderous, facist friends of Damascus that recieve most of their funding from, you guessed it, Iran!
Weird that I dont see anyone here bitching about the Syrian occupation of Lebanon, I guess the only occupation that counts is the Israeli one right?
Clearly that protest is Hizbollah's way of sabotaging the process of freeing Lebanon. Its all Syrian interest which is of course a terror supporting state.
Smiley's right. i count about half a million
I'm only beginning to start reading on Lebanon a bit more now that they're in the news, but it seems that Hezbollah is still quite popular in Lebanon thanks much in part of their successful defense of the Israeli invasion in '82. Now I realize the actions of Israel at that time were the result of PLO terrorism - I'm just pointing out the rationale for Hezbollah popularity.
And the article did state hundreds of thousands, not tens of thousands:

re
my friend told me that people were forced to protest

wtf smiley? where's it say that most of lebanon thinks of hezballah as heroes? most of the lebanese people are actually not fond of them at all especially since israel has withdrawn from southern lebanon. most people resent the fact that hezballa is still in lebanon and use it as a simple base from which to attack israel for syria and iran.
regarding the protest, it was about 500,000. but dont let this number fool you. there have been reports saying that syrians were rbought to lebanon to falsely protest under the lebanese flag. there's definitely been a lot of fishy things going on with this protest because i can assure you that not this many people are for the syrian occupation.

| The biggest winner from the pullout is the Shia Muslim group Hezbollah, which has spearheaded the campaign against Israel. It has gained huge popularity among the majority Muslim community - and even to an extent among the minority Christians for winning the war. |
