Question Record Bag Question???

Hey guys, this is only my second post on here, so I'm sure this thread had been repeated many times before, but please bear with me.

Not to sound like too much of a 'gear-whore' here, but I was wondering what are some good bags to get? I must admit that I am easily swayed by equipment that my dj-gods use, and at Sonic State this weekend, I noticed one of Armin's bags had a 'UCG' or 'UGC' logo on it? I'm not really familiar with record bag brand names at all, and I think I have heard of that one before, but I'm just not sure. Especially if that is a European brand that we don't have here in Canada as much. Anyway, my question is then, can anyone verify that this was indeed the brand, and then point me toward a store in Toronto, or a website where I might acquire such a bad?

Many thanx in advance for all your help!
Sincerely,
Greg

soulheaven-

it's a UDG bag. go to http://www.ultimatedjgear.com/

i have a UDG that holds 90 records. it's really nice. it's the sturdiest soft bag you'll find. the padding is thick and stiff, so they really protect your records. highly recommended.

UDG available in Toronto

You could pop down to the Pits record store on College and yonge I think....a new location they do carry UDG bags but quite ex....about 175-195 Canadian dollars excl tax....

holy crap! I think I'll just use my milk crate and buy like 20 more records instead of getting a fancy bag with 3 letters on it just because thats what armin has...

i bet you want tech12s because that's what armin uses too right?

sorry.. I hate label people, and I'm grumpy this morning.

Posted by ejumbo on Nov-13-2001 15:51:

come on- armin uses that bag (among others) because it's good. armin also uses 1200's because they are GOOD. it's not about the label. you can't exactly take a milk crate everywhere. cheer up ravinglunatic and don't be so grumpy

The best record bags IMHO are the Box bags made by Substance. They are really well padded and have an enormous front pocket for your headphones. They are built extremely well with a very strong shoulder strap and carry handles, and last for years. The only place I've seen them online though is Hard to Find records. I bought mine in a shop here in Cardiff for 55 (50 capacity) which was a bit cheaper than HTFR, it just depends where you are.

yeah, I know.. but this guy doesn't know they are good. he's just buying it because it says UDG on it. that kinda stuff pisses me off.
anyway, I'm not that grumpy, just thought I would point that out.

Hey Now!

Listen man, I have no problem with you. You like what you like, and I'll like what I like. By the way, your analogy of me wanting tech 12's cause Armin has them is BS. I HAVE tech 12's because they are the best and I like the feel. When it comes to things like technical equipment, I am not just going to buy what is popular, but I purchase for quality. Do you even know me? Despite what you think it suggests about me in my post, you shouldn't presume to know what people are about. Presumption is the mother of confrontation gone awry.

As far as the bag goes, I was both interested in quality and what Armin uses (as I stated), because I think we all idealize our fav Djs a bit. If you are immune from this then good for you, but I guess then that sponsorhip wouldn't work, and Snug wouldn't pay Bad Boy Bill money to wear their stuff in order to bolster reputation. In fact, the very reason people would wear say a shirt that says UDG or Moog or even Tranceaddict is because we all feel the need a bit to verify ourselves through association. Maybe this doesn't apply to you, and good for you if it doesn't. At least I'm honest enough to admit it (and I know I am far from the only one). I presume then, that you do not own a single piece of clothing or hat that has a company brandname on it, or any bilateral signifigance to it. If this is the case, congradulations. You have avoided being a label/gear whore and have proved to the advertising industry that sponsorship doesn't work. You're SUCH a martyr!

Anyway, to those here that legitimately helped me out with a simple and harmless question, thanx (to ejumbo, etc.)

Sincerely,
Greg<--Just calling people on their rudeness like I gotta!

I'm sorry dude, I came off kinda rude and I didn't mean too.

it was 7:30 in the morning when I posted that, and I was very grumpy..
sorry, I should not have been so confrontational.

Tech12s are good, I'll be buying them too, because they are good, and not because they say Technics on them.

and UDG bags are good too(i guess), so go ahead and buy one.

as for me, well, I got tired of wearing brand name stuff in highschool when all the popular kids had Nikes and B.U.M equipment shirts, and my parents couldn't afford that stuff. I started shopping at thrift stores, and I just don't care what I wear anymore.

I have mostly plain clothes with no brandnames, but if I see an adidas shirt that looks good and is relatively cheap, I'll buy it, because I don't care. I don't wear hats.

I just take exception to the people who will go out and buy an adidas shirt, and pay more for it, just because it has a few letters on it, or because their friends are wearing it.

I try to show them how silly that is, how they are walking billboards for companies.. that's all.

anyway.. sorry if I came off rude, I didn't mean too.

Hey stop all these bullshit already.
UDG bag is good because it can withstand long term abuse thru travelling under normal rugged conditions, and have also received good reviews in reputable magazines.

There is a difference between a brand name that manufactures fancy shit for the sake of looks and others who manufactures quality goods and still deliver a reasonable overall appearance and UDG happens to deliver the goods and have the looks.
This is UDG's current new look, in the past, the bags looked more ruggered.

Seriously, it is all your own choice.
Armin carrying UDG bags so what, really.
If Armin is caught wearing Victoria Secret panties doesn't mean, I'll go buy a pair and wear it, just because Armin does it.

And so happened that soulheaven mentioned it because he noticed that Armin was carrying it, and you guys simply got carried away with your own intepretation and started these unnecessary accusations. Way go man.

Posted by RavingLunatic on Nov-14-2001 02:28:

no, it wasn't you guys, it was just me, and I apologized.

Posted by Special_K on Nov-14-2001 03:59:

i think armin uses thes 12's because there the indusrty standard....thats why I have them

Posted by patticus on Nov-14-2001 05:52:

really? i have them because 12 is my favorite number

Question ...another question

Hey man, I appreciate your sincerity. Think no more of it, we all have those days sometimes. It was just that it was only my second post on here ever, and I was a little taken aback. But thanx for the help and understanding guys.

Also though, the UDG website says they are out of stock of the Black or Yellow Softbag II Larges that hold 90 records. Do they restock fairly quickly, or am I better off looking in local record stores??? I'd rather order right from the source though. Markups are HUGE here in retail!

Thank again in advance,
Greg

good luck with your record bag.
and I'm glad you stood up for yourself too, specially having posted only twice. good on ya pal.

good info on the record bags. i'll have to check them out. but as j-spot said... what about flight cases? for both recs and TT's? i have an odyssey flight case for my recs that holds about 80. it's what the box said but i've never actually counted. it's pretty good and it's served my recs well when travelling from so.cali to no.cali. the only problem i have with them is that there is still about an extra inch of space left as far as length goes and i get kinda pissed off when i open my case and see some of my recs sticking out of their sleeves. it just worries me that they're sliding around in there getting all scratched up and all. i guess the solution would be to load the recs with the open side facing up so they won't slide out and i don't have to worry but i'm a lazy bastard and i tend to leave my recs in the case instead of putting them back up on the shelf and i don't want all the dust in the world getting in there either. so any flight cases that can help solve this problem? cheers!
