$800,000 is one hefty fine.....
thoughts?

800,000 seems like a lot, but when you read through the article, it seems kind of appropriate -
"The decision marked the end of a court case stretching over 2 years that included evidence of SMS threats and bullying by Fraser-Smith. Record companies, including Sony and Universal, initiated action against Ferris, Fraser-Smith and several other DJs in 2002.
Federal Court judge Peter Jacobson on Friday found Fraser-Smith had produced eight copyright-infringing CDs, including Happy Valley 1991 To 2001 - A Decade Of Dance and Hard Trance.
A CD of Ferris's DJ work was titled peeweeferris.com digital domination.
The CDs of both DJs contained 17 remixed works that were produced without permission of recording artists and other DJs."
and
"Evidence was also presented to the court that Fraser-Smith had sent threatening SMS messages to record company executives responsible for music licensing."
i mean this is for people who are making money off selling these cd's to the public...
so fukn oath they should be anally penetrated in the back pocket!!!

This will sound harsh, but i think anyone playing unpaid for mp3 should be aware that this is what deservingly happens.
If you haven't paid for the music, you don't have the right to play it as a part of "your sound".

Sorry soups but whilst i think the penalty should be less in the case of promo's etc, i still think you should pay for what you play.
well now, considering the amount of digital downlaods available, yes you should..
$800,000 seems like a lot, and it is a lot, but they would've known when putting the CD's together that they were doing it illegally. Serves them right.
this happened in 2002 but only came before federal court now, so its sorta old i guess.
i dont know how you can be so stupid to sell CD's you havent licensed! argh! insane
Suck shit morons!
Fraser-Smith is a complete idiot.
Theres no doubt about it that re-working on other people's tracks and releasing it without their permission or even acknowledging those artists is completely wrong.
but ouch!! that is one mighty hefty fine.. i guess the best way to get the message across is to be harsh.
