Smoking ..umm..something TRANCE- 2005 vs 1999

Eh sup , I am just wondering what is your guys opinion on the state of todays trance versus your thoughts on how it was back in 1999? i personally think it has gone downhill and i wouldnt even call most "trance"- trance! 5 years ago the scene was banging.

well

1999 of course was the golden era of trance. And today trance is not quite as popular as back then.

Posted by kernkraft on Mar-13-2005 01:36:

today, trance is not as popular as it was back in 1999... but i think some tracks are as great as the style was 6 years before... just think of c sharp 2005, [email protected], nadir, voller sterne and for sure asarja... they are so great...

Posted by aloep on Mar-13-2005 01:39:

Things were better back in 1999, but the direction Trance took around the 1999 period was the beginning of it's downfall IMO. 1993-1998 were the best years for me.

Posted by gizzymcg on Mar-13-2005 01:43:

I think there isnt as much new and quality material as there was back then but it doesnt mean its any less good imo

Posted by Jiggsyboy on Mar-13-2005 02:43:

I was really into trance in 99, I still really liked it by never hear that much since then, but 2005 has had some really good chunes and I am back in love again =). Saw Armin & Ferry @ turnmills few weeks ago and they were pretty good. Oh and i lurve halycon =)

Posted by xpand_the_room on Mar-13-2005 08:43:

most 98-00 stuff sounds like cheesy bollocks now
i wasnt around the scene those days, but based on the sets ive heard 95-97 were the best years. it may be that prior to 95 the scene was even better, but with the lack of sets from that period it's quite hard to judge

no contest.

1999 > 2005

Posted by kr00t0n on Mar-13-2005 11:49:

Does it really matter?

Each year has had its good tracks, surely that's all thats important?

Posted by eRRaTiK on Mar-13-2005 13:02:

no. 1999 wins.

here's an example why...

Posted by PlasticSoul on Mar-13-2005 13:37:

Talking about melody and captivating aspects of the sound I prefer 99, but about production wise trance is going better all the time, (2005) ...
so its hard choice, I prefer a mix of both years...

Posted by eRRaTiK on Mar-13-2005 13:47:

^^ damn fance sitter.

i LOL'd at the quote on your sig.

that makes me a trance n3rd

Posted by Alexan on Mar-13-2005 13:50:

I love the tracks of the 90's but I just liked the 90's in general, they'll be the days I tell me kids about. Things were simpler and a more calm.

ive just been listening to Lost Tribe - Gamemaster from '99, and trust nothing can beat that feeling. I was like 12-13 listening to that shit @ summer camp from high skool.

I miss those times

Lost Tribe - Gamemaster is actually from 1997. Released on The Distant Voices EP on Hooj Choons in August 97.

Posted by DJ Laher on Mar-13-2005 15:15:

yes i know its from 1997, but i didnt get into trance then so the first version i actually listened to was the 1999 remake, and the signum remix was my fave, but i seem to like the 97 better now
