Orbital and stuff

So, I've just listened to Halcyon & On & On, and I'm awestruck. It was a huge surprise, since I've listened to the Snivilization CD earlier, and it was... well, not good.

So my point is: Could any of you recommend good Orbital releases to me? Would the "Work" compliation be enough?

I still think their "Middle Of Nowhere" album is their best.

I own the work album, and I was not satisfied with my purchase at all. Simply not the style of EDM that I like

If you didn't like Halcyon on on you probably won't like anything else on it. I thought that song was the best one on there IMO

Orbital - One Perfect Sunrise

Halcyon & on & on is one of my alltime fav tracks, number 5 I think, I remember first time I heard it was back in 94 I think on the Hackers soundtrack, then the first time I go clubbing, I go to a huge rave and Orbital play it live, man that was amazing

Posted by |cEbLu3 on Mar-13-2005 12:51:

personal favs of mine are

orbital - halcyon + on + on
orbital - the box
orbital - belfast
orbital - girl with the sun in her head
orbital - dwr budr ( check this out if you are a fan of halcyon )

shit, pretty much the whole 'In Sides' album,

I don't know what albums all of these are on, but all of these tracks are AWESOME in my opinion:

Orbital - Halcyon & On & On (of course! )
Orbital - One Perfect Sunrise (Original / Stereo 8 Mix)
Orbital - Funny Break
Orbital - Belfast
Orbital - Chime
Orbital - Transient
Orbital - Initiation
Orbital/Kirk Hammett - Satan Spawn

If you like Halcyon, you should get The Green Album, which was their first full album. Some classics on there, i.e. "Belfast". Other than that one "In Sides" is also very much recommended.

the brothers has always been one of my fravorite old-school techno/ambient producers. Everytime i heard 'The Moebius', it brings back the memories of old school science fiction.

love halcyon & on & on, belfast and some track i got illegally AGES ago, like from audiogalaxy before signing in for TA, i think it was "the box" but not sure

didn't like one perfect sunrise

So the general consensus is that their two best albums are The Green Album and The Brown Album?

All their albums are good in their own twisted way but i like 01 aka Green Album and 02 aka Brown Album most as whole albums.. Tracks like Belfast, Satan, Chime, Midnight, Lush, Halcyon+On+On and many more on those 2 albums make them well worth purchasing. Middle of Nowhere is my 3rd fav, In Sides and their last one, Blue Album are next, followed by The Altogether and my least fav is Snivilisation. None of their albums are full-on melodic pieces.. they all have some random twists towards the more experimental sounds in the way only the Hartnoll bros. know. Works is a compilation of their tracks over the years, sadly most tracks there are only radio edits. Luckily their best track, Belfast is there in full. For those who haven't been hardcore Orbital fans since about 1990 (like me) i guess Works could be enough, but only if you can live with crappy radio edits.

Btw, why do you always ask these sort of things? Are you afraid or even too incapable of finding out yourself which you might like most.. tastes and opinions matter alot anyway so it seems a bit lame to me.

I can't find out which I like without buying them, and I like to get some advice on which exactly I should buy. I don't like downloading stuff, even for sampling purposes... (though I sometimes do anyway)

go on the official site and listne to the audio samples.

What Jake said.. to THIS page. There are samples of over 100 Orbital tracks. Then just check the albums' details which tracks are on which album.

Thanks. I wish every artist had a samples page like this...

(I can't freaking believe I haven't discovered Orbital before... this is all gold! Another lot of CDs to pour my money in...)
