Live Strong Yellow Bracelets

Anyone here wear one? It seems like the entire world is wearing these.

nope. but i do see alot of it

had one this summer it broke after taking it off and putting it on a million times in mid-september
people in toronto are finally getting them now it seems while in new york people don't wear them anymore because the fashion statement was over there months and months ago toronto is way behind the times on this one

At my school, McMaster, people've been wearing these for months, only a few people. But since there isn't a high concentration of nike stores around here, and the footlockers weren't selling them (at first, maybe they are now?), it was usually a case of somebody ordering a dozen of them through the net, and giving them out to their friends.

Who knows, maybe that in itself is a marketing tactic to spread their popularity.

Trendwhoring.

These things were selling on eBay for over $50 at one point. Fucking ridiculous because people are profiting off of something that costs $2 and is meant to be a symbol to show that you are aiding the fight against cancer, and I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people around here wearing them don't even know that. They just think it's "cool."

i saw this on the news last year, but i've never seen a single person wear one ..

I sent money to the fund and threw my bracelet in the garbage. I don't need to wear a bracelet to say I donated money.

Who cares though? If that many people are buying it, and it's to help cure cancer, who cares if they know what it's for?

Yeah my sister gave me one. Wore it for a day, then put it on my dresser.

i have one, but i never wear it!

No, people are REselling them for mucho dolla. Making profit off of this. I think that's wrong.

Why?

There was a story on Dateline tonight about distributors profiting off fake bracelets and not sending any donations for Cancer Research. Some people just suck.

I've got one...got it from a good friend of mine...very unfortunately her mother passed away from cancer last year so it means a lot to me especially that it came from her. Haven't really taken it off since I got it

On the nike livestrong website, there's this thing where you can "check all that apply" on a list. The options were something like "I am a cancer survivor, I know somebody who survived cancer, I lost a loved one to cancer". ANd I don't think anything made me more aware about how scary cancer is than that list, when I looked at it and only 2 fields weren't checked off (I have cancer, and I survived cancer). It's impossible not to know somebody who's been affected by it.

Scary scary stuff.

No - not for me.

I'd rather put my money to use by helping research (donating to the cancer society).

at first it was alright but as usual it has turned into a huge fad and lost meaning

to play devils advocate here.... who cares if it looses meaning to the elitist bastards who think of these things that way. the money, if bought legit still goes to cancer research. yes, its a shame that you can't be the only person on the block with one anymore...but fuck you for saying its lost meaning....it still helps.

The point for me is no "if bought legit, money goes to research".

Lets say: You buy the thing for $1. $0.20 goes to making it, $0.20 goes to promoting it. $0.60 goes to research.

Personally - I'd rather have 66% more money go to research ($0.40) than sport a plastic yellow wristband.

It's popularity should be a really good thing. I actually hope it sticks. It should always be considered "cool" to donate some money to a good cause.
