your probably playing at the wrong club

try mixing in some house remixes of the hip-hop songs..

feel the crowd, i doubt you would spin Rapid Eye in front of the crowd wearing cowboy hats.. nor on the other hand would you play tim mcgraw in front of a crowd in ibiza

Play what you love. I would never play hip-hop. Its not my style. I do not love it like I love trance. Thats why I dj. Its for me. Selfish? YES! My own thought, but thats the problem with alot of these damn djs out there. They would play a different style just to please the crowd. Not that its wrong. Pleasing the crowd is what djing is all about. But, this is more importantly about me. Its my drug. It gets me out of myself. It takes me on a journey. A little vacation. If you play the music you love, sooner or later you will draw a crowd that loves it also. It may not happen over night, but it WILL happen. Your probally just at the wrong spot. Try to find a different bar/club that holds techno/ trance nights. They are out there.

My cousin is a huge rock person, completely into it and I'm really the one around who listens to trance/(real) house etc etc. So one day I played it in my car, to be specific, Tiesto!

He actually admitted that he likes it, BUT only tracks without vocals, he thinks the vocals ruin it all. But that's still a huge step for someone like him who would never listen to it.

So now the next thing I'm trying to do is bring him to a club in Toronto with only that music playing. He'll look so out of place but no one really cares at clubs/events like these. Everyone's cool.

But to answer your question, I guess just play it for them, if they like it, great! If not, whatever. All I say is to not hate on it, and I'm dead serious when I say it to people, "because it's just as hard as making a rock song". I hate people who say one genre is shit.

Doesn't matter looks at people liek Zabiela and Holden. One look and you could totally pass them off as guitarists in a rock band or something like that.

ahh my bros exactly the same. I also think vocals ruins some songs.

ALL of my mates refuse point blank to listen to my style of music too so I never have anyone really to chat about it too apart from my flatmate.

Posted by Soliman on Mar-14-2005 16:56:

the problem here is that people are so close minded they say r'n'b rules and trance sucks ...
theyre all going threw pubarty and theyre like play a song that we can dirrty dance ton so i can touch her ass
What can i do???

Same here. A lot of my friends listen to Oasis and stuff like that. All I keep saying to them is "Live in the past, get left behind"

Although I did show them the Tiesto in Concert DVD and they thought is was pretty cool. Some of them said that Tiesto must have a huge ego after a show like that. I turned and said "And Noel and Liam don't?" Tiesto - ego - I don't know, never met the guy.

You can't really do anything about people that don't like trance short of spiking their drink with some MDMA which I don't condone.

Posted by 3xx3r7 on Mar-14-2005 19:23:

With MDMA they will even like speedcore.

hell with MDMA they'll like driving cars off cliffs whilst listening to Cher

Posted by Vyper0987 on Mar-14-2005 21:49:

you can't force people to want to listen to certain types of music. if they want to listen to r&b, they're not going to want to listen to trance. you def. need to change clubs. i live in a city that is very hip hop and house oriented, so playing trance in clubs is difficult. i only play on nites that allow me to play trance. just change what club you're playing...then you don't have to worry about changing people's opinions

if they like r'n'b the phrase blood and stone comes rushing to mind - they'll grow out of it eventually
