-- The new Zelda (LOTR by nintendo)
The new Zelda (LOTR by nintendo)
I just watched the two trailers on ign
dont get me wrong i fucking love the zelda series but there were just so many rip offs of LOTR in the trailers I saw.
Blatant.
The have war warg riders in horse chases (lotr 2)
Huge spider chasing link through a cavern (lotr 3)
link fighting balrog(without wings)in underground cavern(lotr1)
Kinda
ghost soldiers (lotr3)
link getting chased on his horse towards a castle with nazgul looking things flying after him (lotr3)
not that this will stop me from buying the game because i love LOTRs too but I just think its kinda lame
1) Did you ever stop and wonder whether LOTR was actually based off of other old sci-fi stories? Well it is so PLEASE don't go into the "OH EM GEE ZELDA IS SUUUUUUUCH A RIP OFF OF LOTR".
2) There's already a topic about Zelda about 7 or 8 topics down.

They make me so ashamed to be gamers sometimes.
after watching one of the trailers (are there more?) and being both an avid zelda fan ever since the first one for NES, and also a fan of tolkein's books, and to some extent the recent movies, i'm definately siding with yan on this one
just because one trilogy encompasses all the cliches of fantasy novels and movies into one big collection and still is ridiculously popular, doesn't mean that the cliches originated in those movies
omigod, a group of bad guys chasing the good guy as he's almost to safety, thats nevar happened before !!!!1!111
and something chasing the good guy down a path where the evil thing's so big he can't turn back! well i say that the lord of the rings is ripping off indiana jones then
god...all of these things have been done before
its just combining them in new ways
ever stop to think the lord of the rings cinematographers 'borrowed' a few ideas?
Yan +1
I have been following Zelda since the SNES days. The new game does closely resemble LotR scenes, however, those characters have all been in the Zelda series way before LotR was put onto the silver screen.
Just my 2 cents
while the characters maybe zelda originals theres no denying that the scenes are rips of LOTR scenes.

yeah the warg rider scenes are so cliche i see it in all the movies
same with spiders chasing little elf boys down a dark tunnel ive seen that so many times.
Oh and people that fight huge firey monsters that are about the same size is so cliche too. I see that in tons of movies.

Update from IGN (I bolded the main ideas):

| Concerning recent speculation, Nintendo representatives have now made it clear that The Legend of Zelda for GameCube won't necessarily ship this October. The recently unveiled Zelda trailer shown at the Game Developers Conference understandably fanned the flames of speculation concerning an early Holiday release. This specific rumor stems from one online retailer's release date for the game, which stated it would ship October 2005. Earlier today, Nintendo reiterated that nothing has been made official yet. "We haven't announced any potential release dates for the new Legend of Zelda title. Everything published to date is entirely speculation and we hope to announce more about the game at E3 in May." And there you have it. According to Nintendo's official website, The Legend of Zelda for GameCube is still set to hit retailers by the end of 2005, but it's anyone's guess as to which month. Also, Nintendo has yet to announce the official title or any other details concerning gameplay or story, other than the fact that Link will be older. All anyone knows for sure is that the game looks amazing. And given Nintendo's track record with the series, fans will undoubedtly be in for a classic gaming experience. |
Who gives a shit. It's still Nintendo.
Anybody up for some Donkey Kong Banana Bee Bop Party 5?
video game vs movie??? what a stupid comparison.
i'm Definitely buying the game not because the game looks like LOTR or not its because its a great game, and BTW the scenes look amaizing.
the lord of the rings series was invented by jrr tolkein, who created the stories from bed time stories he told his childen/nieces/nephews at family gatherings. the books were written in the mid 20th century (i think the 40s) i'm quite sure zelda wasn't around then... a 'lot' of the fantasy worlds conjured up today have a base in tolkein's lore, but not all. he also invented a language... its the one the elves speak in the movies
