setup advice

hey all. Ive been pcdj'in for around 3-4 years now, and dj'in on a set of tt1625's (not mine) for about a year and now ive come into a little money I can finally buy myself a half decent setup (I tell ya mixing on low end mixer is borin).

My original plan was to buy sum 1200/1210's mrk5's and buy a cheapish mixer (around 150 til I upgrade). Ive always had the idea to get decent turntables from the start. no point buying worse turntables only to want a set of 1200's later so might aswell get em and be done with.

Now Ive thought about things and im tempted to go with a set of CD decks (gemini mpx-30 has caught my eye) and purchase the turntables later. I was thinking of getting a mixer for around 250-300 and a 4 chan one so I can just plug the turntables in when I get them without having to upgrade the mixer. I was looking at the behringer djx700. Any comments on this mixer? Looks like u get a fair amount of features at a bargin price which kinda concerns me.

what do you guys reckon? cheers

my first advice would be to buy used technics

they always work fine i have some 82 and they work perfectly even better than the new ones

dont go for that mixer i only had bad reviews for it

you should consider 3 channel mixers since you can plug 2 table in phono inputs an 2 cdj in line inputs

i guess you wont mix 4 songs at the same time

the allen& heath xone 32 can be bought around 600 canadian bucks...i thinks its in your price range

awsome mixer with great sound amazing filters and just perfect for home use

For the cd-j...i personnaly own final scracth 1.5 and i think its the best compromise to not spend awful load of money on ep and still having the tables feeling

records cost a lot of money and you easely get bored to play the same tracks....in my opinion

i got final scrath for 500 canadian bucks

its a joke since its the price of aroundd 40 records

pionner 800 are good cd player

dont know about the gemini

hey there. cheers for replying

the mixer I had an idea was a bit naff. 250 and has more features than any mixer in its price range upto around 400. so that was a a giveaway. plus I never really heard of the brand.

I would liek some pioneer 800's but for a pair id have no money for a mixer i dont think (i have arouns 800ish)

on the subject of final scratch. Ive been using traktor for 3-4 years. whats the diff with final scratch? ive been able to mix turntable > pc (mp3/CD's in traktor) many times and works fine..

ill go for a 3 chan mixer then too. does that mean I can run 2xturnables or 2xcdj's at once and then still have another channel to connect up a pc? (pc is going to be for fx/loops/samples etc through traktor

main reason to get cdj's is I hate the cost of vinyl. 5+ most of the time for what 3 freakin tracks? I could buy an album for 10-12 and have 10-15 tracks or I could download tracks of the net @ 1 each

mk5s not worth the extra cash over mk2s IMHO, especially if you are on a budget.

I picked up (another) mk2 for 180 this morning....my other pair cost me 330

shop around the second hand market for everything. You will save a packet, and you should be able to get a mixer, 2 technics and cd player for 800 no problem if you spend wisely

Check out the twin denons for cheaper cd players. Im selling a 2000f mk3 soon....

that behringer mixer is low quality

yes it has many features but i think you should go for a better quality 3 channel mixer

cd-j...i dont really know a lot about them
i had an american dj that worked fine

the FS version of final scratch is a striped down version of tracktor studio

you can see track A and track B but you dont have the mixer, filters, loop or anything like that

i dont think you can plug your computer for loops and stuff...maybe but i dont think so but if it runs on 2 phono line you will be able to plug it

You could get 1 or 2 of these from here Tech 1200's

325 for 1 or 650 for 2 brand new 2 years warranty.

Check out one of these, probably one of the best 3 channel mixers out atm Numark DXM09

Cost around 230

Look out for a 2nd hand Cdj 800 on ebay you can get one for around 350

So you could have 2 1200's and a dxm09 for 870 or 1 1200 a cdj800 and dxm09 for 900

ps. you can get them djx700 for 150 now although they are pretty shit could be ok if your just after the extra channels not the effects.

STAY AWAY! DO NOT TOUCH THIS MIXER!

...seriously though...

Had one for about two weeks after my first DJM500 went down due to a liquid intervention and it was the single most awful sounding piece of garbage I have ever heard. A list of compaints:

- Effects only work at certain BPM's
- Effects sound terrible when they are working properly
- The sound quality for the monitor/master outs is comparable to say that of quote "Pip farting on a snair drum." (If any gets that one, way to go!)
- The faders are as insensitive and slippery as the come
- The rotaries basically have three volumes, a little, regular, and real loud i.e. once again, no sensitivity.

These are just a few of the many compaints I have about this mixer. Please save yourself some frustration and just skip this painful, degrading, DJ angering piece of garbage.

End Rant.
