Commercial Trance Must Be Dead Too?

Anyone noticed the apparent lack of those DJ Sammy/4 Strings type tunes on mass media radio lately? Whats up with that? Don't tell me the wider community is bored of it too?

Is this a sign that electronic music in general is dying up the arse on a commercial level. Is Australia turning into the United States of RnB Loving Bogans?

Discuss.

P.S If anyone in Melbourne can hook me up with Missy Higgins, I'd be much obliged.

all it takes is 2 big commercial tracks, they get cained senseless on nova and then everybody will be complaining about shit euro-cheese all over the airwaves.
it doesnt really make any difference, trance commerical and non commercial is strong, at werk today a chick brought in a dj sammy cd for all our enjoyment *rolls eyes until head explodes*.
Its still kicking, no point fighting it.

I would say cheesy, commercial house has taken the place of eurodance on the airwaves. Popular FM radio stations (eg Nova) have been playing tons of house.....

Starsailor - Four To The Floor (Thin White Duk Mix)
Armand Van Helden - Hear My Name
Armand Van Helden - My My My
Eric Prydz - Call On Me
Michael Gray - The Weekend
Deep Dish - Flashdance
Gadjo - So Many Times
Goodwill - Happenis
Junior Jack - Stupidisco
Linus Loves - Stand Back
Martin Solveig - Rockin' Music
Shapeshifters - Lola's Theme (The SHITHOUSE vocal version, not the good original Mix)
& many more tracks

Anyone agree?

N.B. I'm not saying i don't like these tracks though. I'm quite a fan of handbag house, actually

yeah, (mainstream) house is way more accessible than trance on the radio etc.

Posted by Joshva on Mar-15-2005 04:27:

Oh their is plenty of cheese being produced at the moment. Take:

Ian Betts - Love Ressurection . It's a fine slice of tasty cheese. It makes Castles In The Sky sound underground.

This is true, and what's more, "commercial" trance loathed so it is, sometimes plays an important although breif role in introducing people to music of the greater integrity which we enjoy these days (well, some of us who remain unjaded do).

Kind of like how "Robert Miles - Children" gave me chills years ago when I was still playing in a Rock/Metal band. It was powerful and emotive music, just like some Metal.

I deliberately don't have a cd player in my car or have any stations preset so I scan through and listen very widely to all sorts of music, even ethnic, classical, metal, classic rock, pop, and of course wicked electronic when it's on!

So I was scanning away and I heard a remix of "belinda carslile - summer rain" and it occured to me how nice the production quality was, but how nauseating the melody was.. then it occurred to me that most noobs need education about good trance, but unless they have someone to put them on the right track, or some radio cheese to break them in, they have little chance..

This theory would also explain the proliferation of "one love" style bubblegum house... catchy motifs = radio support = exposure, and this unltimately will benefit the scene. Like it or not.

agreed.. add to that lately:

Sander Kleinenberg - The Fruit
and now i heard Studio B - I Like Girls (Tom Neville mix.. the cheesy vocal mix, arghh this track is gold without the vocals)..

anyways its all better than hearing Hillary Duff or those teeny boppers!

I bet it doesn't make Infextious - Fly away sound underground

I couldn't agree more with Slade. Electronic music on a commercial level is dead and I know this for a fact because I have been driving my dad's car (which doesn't have a cd player nor tape) so am forced to listen to the radio and let me tell you, the amount of bling bling on there is beyond human comprehension. Sure I dont mind slapping on the radio and listening to some crap, it makes me appreciate the music I'm into even more, but when you hear about 1 million rnb tunes as compared to the rest of the cheesy stuff, you realise that we are turning into a nation of RnB loving bogans.

92.9 classic fm all the way

As in my prev post, only if you stick to the commercial stations though.. In Melbourne you've got Street FM 87.6(?!) 24h breaks/house/tech/prog/trance & SYN FM 90.7 which is run by some UNI I think and it's got some way alright stuff on it. I've also heard some banging sets on some smaller regional stations too so it's out there if you scan through- I'm sure Sydney would have those smaller stations too.

And you've always got guys like Infusion right?

MAJOR euro hit about 8 months ago. Too bad coz it's quite catchy and the three guys in film clip could be Phil, Paulie and Dave

Fine then, run- your loss:

Posted by Sid on Mar-15-2005 12:17:

we have fbi 94.5 who play some good stuff from 6pm-8pm everyday, but otherwise we have nothing in terms of trance/prog/breaks/house etc. If you exclude some weekend nights, Sydney radio has nothing in terms of EDM.

Posted by gumble on Mar-15-2005 12:56:

hottest australian female artist = sarah blasko. hands down.

gods this is scary, i was thinking the same thing as teknoscaper!!
but i agree with what a.j. had to say, i dont think its dead, just been replaced with something else. hence rod laver arena at two tribes as the house arena.
