Castaneda - Oceanborn(incl. John Askew Re-Edit) [Discover Dark]

An impressive follow-up to Askew's Club Music EP, Castaneda delivers very well here with a powerful track tinged with acidic elements. John Askew adds his icing on the cake as well. This is a typical Discover release so this is a must-have for all Discover whores.

a) Castaneda - Oceanborn(Original Mix) - 8.5/10
aa) Castaneda - Oceanborn(John Askew Re-Edit) - 8.5/10

NOTE: For all those purchasing from Chemical, please not that this is NOT a 'Remix' as is mentioned on the website.

5/10 its prety boring. It needs something different. Askew is kinda sucking....

Not as good as his other stuff...

the Original Mix is very doog IMO

hmm...okay track - pretty boring as mentioned above. Floor control was a million times better than this imo.

I actually kind of like it, even though I'm not usually a fan of either Castaneda or Askew. I remember it sounded pretty good when I first heard it on ASOT a while back.

The track is pretty driving with a sort of psyish feel to it. It's not your standard fluff, more like something John '00' Fleming would play.

Askew's edit doesn't really bring that much to the track though, making it sound a bit less full, more PVDish. Still pretty good, seeing how it's more or less the original track.

7.5/10

yea it still doesn't change the fact that it is a poor production...

PvD dropped Castaneda - Floor Control at Coachella 2004 and it was pure fucking ownage. Oceanborn is like a deflated balloon, it's lifeless

well, this one didn't make my 'to buy' list. just didn't think it did the job.

What makes it a poor production?

This track sounds mint on a loud stereo.

Since we're talking about opinions here, I disagree with that.
Saami has taken his music in a different direction with Oceanborn catering more to the supporters of the tougher sound. No doubt, Floor Control was good , but I think this is better

Hey!

Oceanborn was never ment to be the next Floor Control and you should really hear that from the track. It's supposed to be this crossbreed psy/melodic trance track that has a banging feeling to it.

It's understandable ofcourse that people who loved Floor Control aren't that impressed but what can ya do. I just make trance that gets MY butt shaking!

Anyways feel free to share your views. This is just some background info so you don't get too caught up on the fact that this is not Floor Control and its not supposed to be.

Oh and you guys are going to see alot of different styles of trance in the times to come so don't get alll shocked and stuff if the tracks don't sound like everything i've done in the past. Cause for me the biggest problem in trance (especially in melodic trance) today is that everything has been done a thousand times.

So I see no point in making tracks that are simular to past productions. And trust me it's no picnic.

Well anyways ofcourse you dont have to like Oceanborn. I'm just telling you what motivates my track writing. Hehe, well Oceanborn promos are selling extremely well so actually no worries there!

Cheers...

Don't take the criticisms too seriously Saami. People always need something to complain about.
Anyways, thumbs up on this brilliant release, I am a BIG fan of the Discover sound and you complement the catalogue well.
