DJ Kenosis - Sonic Boom , epic/tech/psytrance live mix

This is a live mix I did for Afterhoursdjs.org a few weeks ago and liked it enough to release it. It has the strongest 'sound of 99' feel that I've ever had in a set but never strays from my sound and doesn't succumb to cheese.

Starting out with the unreleased track "Unbreakable" from up-and-coming producer Sunquest as well as his remix of the classic "Sunrise at Palamos", Sonic Boom starts off aggressive and gradually increases the energy through to "Tribute to the Past". From here it takes a darker turn and finishes with psy-influenced "Twisted" and Oliver Prime's scorching remix of LSG - Netherworld, ending finally with Electric Universe - The Prayer at nearly 145 bpm.

DJ Kenosis - Sonic Boom

Tracklisting

Sunquest - Unbreakable
MIKE - Sunrise at Palamos (Sunquest remix)
Alex Morph vs. Eric Prydz - Unification vs. Call on Me
O'Callaghan and Kearney - Restricted Motion
Carl B - Radiance
Nu Nrg - Astralis
Aerodrome - Tribute to the Past
Active Sight - Adrenalin
Mojado - Naranja (Dmitras' Vision)
Miika Kuisma ft JOOF - Twisted
LSG - Netherworld (Oliver Prime remix)
Electric Universe - The Prayer

DJ Kenosis - Sonic Boom

Hope you enjoy it!

I never said goa . Twisted is psy, Netherworld has psy influences, and The Prayer is psy/goa (depending on what you want to define it as).

That twisted trk is not psy trance as all you are doing to jumping on the bandwagon [ hey look at me i play psy ]

I've been play psy for long enough to know the difference , John is bringing out a sub label soley for genre and that trak in question is not !!!!!.

Calm down, dude. I do know the difference as well, and I think you're being far too narrow in your definition of psytrance. It's ok if you have different opinions on 'exactly' what it is, but according to me (and according to psyshop, among others ) it IS psy. Not all psy sounds exactly like Electric Universe/ Infected Mushroom just as not all epic trance sounds exactly the same. Like all other subgenres of trance, psy evolves and splits off into many different hybridizations as people explore different sounds and alot of other tracks that fit more squarely into other subgenres borrow a few psy influences.

Please don't accuse me of "jumping on the bandwagon" as I've been playing psytrance for a while now (in LA I've been pushing others for a while now to play psy as well).

But regardless of what you want to call it, just enjoy it.

Agreed, that was definitly one of the better parts of the mix. Good job by the way, really enjoyed it.

Thanks man . The feel from the beginning of it reminds me a little of Magic 6 or Tiesto's Feb. 2000 set on Dance Department (except, of course, that all the tracks on Sonic Boom are recent: most are Jan/Feb/March 2005). I'm still undecided as to whether I like this one better than Orbis Tertius or not.

Thumbs up

I like the mix a lot
Sunquest is a good epic trance producer, high quality shiz.

Sunquest is extremely good, and I have no idea why he hasn't tried to get "Unbreakable" signed. That thing is amazing. Everyone I've had listen to it thinks it's amazing. It could be a good Armada release .

Thanks for listening to the mix, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was the most fun I've ever had doing a mix (probably because it was live, and I got to interact with people while I was doing this).

Glad you enjoyed it. I hope you liked the slightly more psychodelic turn near the last 1/3 of it.

you gave me the CD at the Armin Van Buuren show. I listened to the whole thing on the way home. It was really nicely done. The mixing was spot on. It sounded nice to listen on the drive home while the sun was rising. =) i LOVE naranja!

Naranja's a good track as is another Mojado track that is about to be released (called "Senora Fuerte" or something like that). Glad you enjoyed it.

yeah, my time was up by then . Though, honestly, I'm not sure how I would end it. I was thinking AR 52-Piiska but that one is too laid back for me.

Holy shit, dude. That is some fantastic artwork there. I love it. I would probably be down for using it with some modifications that I'll get to when I send you a pm. Glad you enjoyed it!

Hey, i just started listening and noticed that melody that begins at 00:53 in Sunquest - Unbreakable has a remarkable resemblance to the one in DJ Eyal - Dreamcatcher (Tea Freaks Milk & Two Sugars Mix) [Phatt Phunk Records]. it sounds almost exactly the same to me, a difference being that sunquest uses different notes. intersting.

i'll get back to the set.

EDIT

yup, pretty awesome set. it has that epic sound in the begining and middle and progresses nicely into that harder throwback sound. that Carl B Aerodrome and Active Sight comps are nice. all tracks are standouts. the last track totally reminds of a woefully embarassing CD i have from 1997 called 'Tranced Out and Dreaming' Serious LOL material. IMHO this is my favorite Kenosis set, thus far.

here's a cue text i made for burning or winamp. a little rough around the edges but works fine. feel free to change it. this will get plenty 'o play around here.

Thanks man . The fact that you liked it better than Orbis Tertius says alot (as I think you really enjoyed that one). I think the cue sheet looks fairly similar to how I have the tracks broken up on my cd version of it.

Btw, it looks like I'm playing somewhat close to where you are on 4/28 (Sacramento). It's going to be a psytrance set .

Btw,btw, if you guys really like my stuff vote for me on thedjlist .

Adrenalin is awesome when heard in a big club.
