Romantic Restaurants in NYC?
Hi all,
I'm heading out to Manhattan in mid-April for vacation, and was planning on asking my girlfriend to marry me while on a horse-drawn carriage ride through central park. Afterwards a nice dinner somewhere close, then a broadway show, then back to the hotel to seal the deal hehe. I've been trying in vain to find a good, quiet, romantic restaurant near the southeast corner of Central Park. I've read dozens of restaurant webpages, but cannot figure out which would be suitable.
Anyone have a recommendation for an upscale restaurant in this area (or any part of midtown for that matter)?
Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated!
-Mark
sorry im too cheap for all those classy places
so i wouldn't know any.... if u r really rich then go to the rainbow room @ rockerfeller plaza, its on the top floor overlookin the whole city... but its gonna cost u serious $$$$$$
oooohhhh 4 seasons.... its in the park and is THE PLACE to ask her
GOOD LUCK BRO!!
well if youre looking for pricey and great food thats by the park id suggest
Tavern On The Green
Central Park at West 67th Street, New York City, New York, United States, 10023 | Phone: 212.873.3200 | Fax: 212.580.4265
heres the website:
www.tavernonthegreen.com
good luck bro
yea Tavern on the Green.... thats what i meant
is the 4 seasons in central park also??
One If By Land Two If By Sea -- pricey, but easily one of the most romantic spaces in new york city (they get about a half-dozen proposals per week).
edit: OBTS is in the west village but if you're looking for romance and good food it can't be beat. (btw, skip tavern-on-the-green; if you're going to spend that much money there are dozens of better places in the area)
umm the 4 seasons is 5th ave at 61st street. so yeah its by the park but thats more expensive, and the food isnt that great.. rainbow room is nice but its old... i say Tavern is the best bet
EDIT: oh yeah and also if youre planning on doing this at a certain date pick one of these restaurants and call to make reservations right away believe me they fill up fast, real fast lol.

yes, we are. read The New York times (march 16, 2005) we got 4 * again. I love the name of the article "Only The Four Stars Remain Constant".
I'm proud but it's a tough job. Lovin' it.

What up with wanting to dine near Central Park? Dont be a fucking tourist. Central Park doesnt mean romantic.
I dont know about VaTutto getting shut down, but their reviews are well above par. They have one of the nicest rated outdoor/garden dining area in NYC.

try Brasserie Les Halles theres one in midtown and downtown. if you dont know, the executive chef is anthony bourdain (amazing chef and author of Kitchen Confidential.. also an amazing book).
and if you havent tried pastis, i'd highly recommend it... its not a real fancy place, but very nice and casual with great food and drinks... located in the meat packing district.(probably my favorit place to eat and have some drinks with friends)
vern, maybe you like to be a tourist wherever you go, but I certainly dont. If Im going someplace to have a nice romantic dinner, I dont care where the fuck it is as long as it makes my stomach happy and my significant other starts making fun at me in bed because of how much money I just spent on dinner.
wow, thank you all so much for the responses! My first search came up with Tavern On The Green, but I wasn't impressed based solely on their website. Now I've got some serious research to do before chosing a restaurant. I'll update once I've made a choice.
btw - all this planning goes to shit if she says no. lol
Vlad - I figured it would be easier to do the carriage ride, take a quick stroll to a nearby restaurant, then catch a cab to a broadway show. At this point it's wide open though, thanks for all the recommendations and I'll definitely consider each regardless of location. I'm sure it's a >$20 cab ride to any of these places...
Thanks again everyone!
