ORKIDEA - The future of progression in electronic genre!!
Just thought it would be cool to let people in on a little secret. He performed after Tiesto at Wintergalactic 2001, and he was one of the headliner at the recent STATE '01 event. Many who attended either event are sure to say that Orkidea far exceeded their expectations, or was all out a better DJ than the other headliners they came out to see, such as Tiesto or Armin. With all the hype I thought I would shed some light on the topic, here goes.
Orkidea started musically when he was 14 years old. He knows his way around a studio..any studio, the way most of us know how to walk. It's second nature to him. His performances are a very unique combination of progressive, tech house, deep trance, progressive trance, house and the list goes on. He does LIVE/PA performances of his own productions and other original music at events such as LABYRINTH in Finland and has performed with artists such as The Prodigy, Sven Vath, Tiesto and a huge list of others.
When Orkidea steps to the decks for an 8 hour set in the next few months, people will get a chance to experience one of the most ecclectic and fulfilling musical experiences of their lives. He is better in every sense and stipulation than any other artist in the scene currently, including the DJ Magazine top 100 poll. True, this is my opinion but when we brought Tiesto at Wintergalactic 2000 for the first time ever, noone believed us then either. Then we said Armin is the best performer of the three, Tiesto, Ferry, Armin. Now that everyone's heard Armin, most agree. So, the odds are that we mean what we say and the risk is only that we were wrong. The music will still blow your mind regardless, as I'm sure a few will comment that Digweed, Sasha, or Warren being better. I've personally heard every one of them live a dozen times, and Orkidea puts all of them to shame.
His sets are a complete musical journey, a spiritual uprising of emotion and oneness. This one's for real, he will be one of the best in the world in a very short period of time, come and experience him in the next couple of months, we'll keep you updated.

The fact is that Sasha and Digweed are known as one of the best technical DJ's in the world (Carl Cox some would argue is probably the best). Sasha and Diggers have unbelieveable mixing and track selections so and they spin different kinda stuff from Orkidea so I'm not sure how u are trying to compare them. I'll definately come see Orkidea spin next time he is in TO but I'm not going to expect him to be better then Sasha or Diggers (or Warren), that would probably not happen anyway. |
Orkidea is better than Digweed..
orkidea did kind of steal the show at wintergalactic - just because no one knew who he was, and his set was so unexpected, and incredible....
unfortunately i missed armin, but solid state is the best production company in t.o. right now, hands down.... so if you guys are bringing orkidea back, i'll be there, no question....
respect for continuing to push toronto in a positive direction
oh yeah..... and i love your signature thingy cosmix - really graphically nice...

I dont know enough about sasha and digweed to say if Orkidea is better. What I do know is when I listen to Orkidea I am blown away. When I listen to s + d i am listening to electronic music.
Orkidea is a DJ with everything included, producing, remixing, and spinning. And he does it so damn well. See him live, listen to his sound and so you will realize.
I personally don't like Digweed too much, I tried one of his sets and thought it was rather....bland, I think would be the proper word. It was a set from Miami, I dunno, maybe it sucks. Maybe you guys can recommend his best set?
I personally think that Westbam and PvD are the best DJ's, of course, I'm not saying that everyone else is shit. But they are my favourite, along with Tiesto. I love Tiesto's track selections, even though they're not as "underground", they still do it for me.

Digweed is spinning his best right now, dis year
Orkidea, though many people consider Sasha and Digweed masters, is a master himself. You really can't compare Orkidea to any other dj in the world, mainly because of his skills as a producer and a musician. He has been involved in music since the age of 14, so does this classify as a master?? His mixing is seemless, his track selection is second to none, and he mixes up various genres of music with such skill that you never know if you're listening to Trance, Progressive, Tribal, House, Breaks or whatever.
Sasha and Digweed and the other "masters" used to go cross genre alot in the past, back when electronic music had it's peak back in the late 90's. If you ask me why I think the peak of electronic was that far back, from 1995 - 2000 then it died, I will tell you. Back in the day, producers used to take a lot of time to make a track, years, months, whatever, they put their heart and sould into making COMPOSITIONS of electronic music that actually pulled emotional strings when you heard them played. Now, in the face of the evil dollar, producers are pumping out tracks every week, sacrificing heart and soul for the mighty buck.
Orkidea still takes months, even years to make a track, which is why whenever you hear him drop a private label the crowd goes wild! Amazing music. For years now, Sasha and them have been sticking to the same style of dark, deep tribal beats, not really varying from their style throughout any set. I've heard them spin dozens of times live and though their music is beautiful and I love their sets with all my heart, the musical experience doesn't fulfill me anymore. It just isn't varied enough, and forgets to take you on an emotional loop. Orkidea has this quality, mixing perfectly, technically equal or better than anyone in the world, blending beautiful music and making magic out of vinyl.
There's my story as to why Orkidea will make you understand the way this music should be played. People said that Orkidea enlightened them at STATE '01, that he blew them away, he was the star of the night, they couldn't believe their ears, and on and on and on. People said his set reminded them of the way it used to be. He was opening for Armin, played after Ian Ossia, and only had 2.5 hours. All this in 2.5 hours??? WOW!! Just wait until you get a chance to listen to him paint a musical masterpiece. I personally invite any doubters out to this night, because when you leave you will believe. Orkidea, the future because he remebers the past and the way it used to be. He gives people art in the form of music, he takes you on a journey.
nuff said.
spaceman
i understand ur thoughts realspaceman, ur right
i think Orkidea is still very much not famous, but he is a amazing dj, underrated which is good...i know a lot ppl talk about Sasha and Digweed being da masters, ya they r, Orkidea seems 2 remind of Nick Warren...its like when Nick started spinning nobody knew him, but he was always amazing, until u went 2 a club and actually heard him spin live, dats when u thought he was da best...well just my thought, nick's been around 4 a long time and still ppl didn't seem 2 notice his talent, actually right now coz of his new album Intesify he's kind of on every1's tongue, but still it's nothing...its 2 bad there isn't ne dj's like nick or orkidea, maybe they r, but there not unreleaved like others
coz definately if there was more dj's like dem, trance wud of been more competitive and understandable
Orkidea Productions?
Apart from his infamous lost remix of 'Stage One' what else has he done?
