what's the most idiotic thing that happend to you?
While dj'ing what's the most idiotic/funniest thing that happend to you???
The first time anyone let me play out I got ont he decks and started to cue up my track. I thought it was beatmatched and I start to bring it in on phrase to find out I didn't even have the cue in the headphones the whole time. Massive trainwreck!
Last saturday when I played at a private party a drunk asshole fell against the table my 2x1210's and 2xPioneer CDJ 500S' went into the floor...one of the cd players also got soaked in beer...

thought the track that was playing was teh track that I just got done mixing out of. a little silence followed.
cued a track up with the fader open. however, it was almost matched to begin with, so almost no one noticed...
too many to list
Selected highlights include:
Fire alarm in front of 1900 people (mutes music and recorded message saying 'please evacuate') causing us to evacuate at peak time on a saturday night , as well as other ocassions when it has been tripped off by excessive heat
Foam party, where the foam went over the turntables
drinks spilled on the (playing) record
taking the wrong record off
playing 3 tunes in a row with the bass kill switch activated
various venues where the vibrations from the dance floor skip the records
having the light rig trip off and leave the place in darkness (great fun )
i think the most fun one was either chaning mixers half way through the night (power supply was buggered) , or changing the cd player half way through the night...
loads more
the first time I ever spun out i go throw a cd in a Denon dual cd deck and I guess the pitch was locked so I couldn't beatmatch at all. I couldn't figure it out and figured I'd just pitch bend like crazy when I brought it in....huge trainwreck...
Two weekends ago I was playing out and played Blue haze - Into Nothing twice in a matter of about 7 minutes accidentally. I have a few SAW records that look the same in the dark so I got thrown off.
And a few times I've taken off the needle on the live song instead of the one I just mixed out of.
In a rush, I spun around with the next record and focusing on the label of the record, I attempted to put it on the TT that had the record that was already playing.
People spilt various drinks on the turntables whenever I spun at parties . Not very interesting I know

took the needle off the record that was playing ....
awesome!
dropped the needle on my first record, about a minute in, someone kicked the plug and it disconnected from the surge protector.
my sleeve has caught plenty of times on the handle of my cart causing the tonearm to swing across the live track making an almighty skreetch.
short sleeves only for me these days
one time my friend muted the master volume instead of the booth monitors and didnt realise. he just kept bopping around while every1 else was like "double-you tea eff?"
man this is a great thread... brings big smiles on a shitty day... i never played out, not good enough yet, but ive done that whole take the wrong record off thing... and sometimes when ive gotten stoned and mixed, half way through the mix ill forget which way or deck i was going
Forgeting my mixer to amp cable at home =)
Doing backspin and knocking the cart off the record, which produced the aforementioned skreech sound.
Took the needle off the wrong record, upfaded with the wrong channel right as the track was ending, all sorts of shit.
Honestly, its kind of a right of passage before you really get comfortable up there.
friend of mine just left. we threw done a lil session. he took out the wrong CD... heh.
I was djing in front of a crowed of about a two thousand when a very bad series of events happend. *takes a deep breath* The night started off fine mix was going good i was cueing up the next record when all hell broke loose some drunk fell over in the dj booth knocking the tone arms of booth decks across the records making the screaching sound as he fell he grabed the dj stand and took it down with him the events decks and my vinyls on it!!!!! after that we got everything set back up and were rolling while the crowed was starting to get back into the grove i had the bigged train wreck i had cued up the new track and was bring the fader up on the new track when i noticed there was no sound i looked around and I had knocked the power cord out of the surge protecter with my foot needless to say that night was not good.!
I wasnt mixing or anything i was juz playing music using a laptop during a radio show. About half way through the show as i hit play on the laptop my sleeve touched the touch pad and stopped the song.
yeah well i was at a house party, going off!!!!
but you know what there like when they havent seen vinyl much of before. they just love to ssscccrretcch screcchh like cueing sort of action while playing trance man i was pissed about 40 people did this.
now the main thing that happened was a friend was directly in front and went to shake hands with the mate on my side of the booth, oohhh
no!! (he doesn't realize that turntables have tonearms cos he is half pissed. so he brings his arm straight down on the record playing and smashes the needle right down hard on the the record. \
it totaly made the record unplayable. but what got me was that the needle survived with no sign of damage, the carts and needle i have are ORTOFON GT'S TUFF STUFF FOR A GREAT PRICE.

About two weeks ago i was playing in a litle club here in Reykjavik, i was dropping mad tunes everybody were loving it , the dance floor was full, then out of the blue the club owner comes into the booth and asks me if the "smoke machine" is'nt working i say that i have no idea since i hate the smoke from it. Well the guy reaches over one of the decks and he takes the tonearm of the record that was playing with his jacket, his face went from being pale to bright red as the crowd looked at him like they wanted to kill him. I set up the next record i had cued up and he backs off and tries to check the "smoke machine" under the table and under there he takes the mixers power cord out but now the crowd is looking at me like they wanted to kill me.
and the off shottrain wrecks last weekend when the cd players i had were sucky...

Was set to close for famous DJ with initials B.B.
Bloke has been in bar for two hours... comes to play and he is so hammered he can't even get his records out of his bag. He can't see the pitch control and suprisingly mixes smooth as anything.
30 minutes later is slurs in my ear that he can't carry on as he is too pissed, at this moment he vomits on my record bag and on the light jock.
He then leaves me with my vomit covered record bag to play for 3 and half hours ( I have no issues with playing a set this length but like to have a few more records with me when I do).
What's worse is that he still got paid in full about 25 times more than what I got paid that night.
I also had to throw away a perfectly good UDG bag with wheels.
Cheers
