Catholics and their endless line of bull**** aggravate the **** out of me.

I want to preface this by stating that my roommate is Catholic. I have been living with him for two years. He's studying to enter the seminary at WSU next year. I, personally, went to a private Catholic school for two years (sixth and seventh grade). I know more about the Catholic faith than most people who aren't Catholic, so if Catholics are reading this and want to argue any of the following points, be my guest. In fact, I hope someone who is Catholic replies. It will just drive my points home.

For starters, the Schiavo case has gone too far. The fucking woman is dying. She's a borderline vegetable, and cannot survive unless there is a feeding tube present. Guess what? Feeding tubes aren't mentioned in the Bible, and Schiavo cannot feed herself. Therefore, it is not a fucking suicide. I don't care what the man in the funny hat says about it. I don't care what your priest says about it. If you cannot survive without the assistance of someone else, you are allowed to die. It's nature, not intent, that is killing you. Schiavo should have died years ago. Her sick fucks for parents decided to keep her alive in an atrocious state simply so that they can delay the inevitable pain that will come along with their dauther's passing.

Another thing that has been bugging the shit out of me is the fact that Catholics have so much to say about abortion in the United States. The funny thing is, some of the most outspoken people on the issue are male. Guess what? If you don't have a uterus, shut the fuck up. You don't know shit about having children. You don't know shit about what's good for a woman's physical and/or psychological health. What if the woman knows she won't survive pregnancy? What if she was the victim of a rape? What if there's a chance that the kid is going to be born with some horrible affliction that will make theirs a life of pain and misery? Huh? What then? I'll tell you what, at least according to the church: have the kid, anyway, because it's wrong to have an abortion. The Bible and the man in the funny hat say so.

Lastly, the issue of gay marriage comes to mind. Who gives a fuck if two men or two women want to get married? It's not about your fucking Bible. Most of them could give a shit what it says. It has nothing to do with a religious union. It has to do with the fact that people get fucked in the ass for health, education, and financial benefits when they can't be legally married. Your religious views on the issue are not important. It's about legality. We're all high and mighty about being an accepting nation that embraces diversity, and yet we go and fuck people over when they try to make use of the institutions that we have had in place for centuries.

I'm so sick and tired of people refusing to think for themselves. Go fuck yourself if you live by what is written in a book. The Bible is thousands of years old. It is not an authoritative source on every possible situation that could ever come up. Neither is an 80 year old man who can barely stand up on his own or even lift his head. (I often wonder who's wiping his ass for him, personally.) You need to wake up and realize that other people don't give a fuck about what your church says regarding something in which you're involved. This is why we have a separation between church and state. This is why we have personal freedoms. Quit trying to be little Hitlers. It's not going to work, and you're just going to get yourselves knocked the fuck out one day when you spout your bullshit in front of the wrong person.

Catholics are the least wacky of the bunch. There are a lot crazier Christians out there.

No. Abortion is considered murder and can never be justified, at least according to the Pope's last ruling on the issue. (It's derived from the Gospels.)

Granted... but Catholics are the ones who always end up in the news, and they're the ones who have the most power over the mass media. Thus, it's Catholic viewpoints that are disseminated through major news sources most often. (i.e. CNN, FoxNews, etc.)

Once again... if you do not agree with what the Pope and his bishops say, many people in the church do not recognize you as Catholic. It's in the damn books. Go read them before you argue with me. According to the Catholic "rules", the Pope is the direct connection between God and men. Therefore, his word is essentially God's word.

If you don't believe me, look it up.

I'm not trying to point a finger at you, specifically. I'm pointing a finger at Catholics, by the strict definition of the word. There is a difference between being "Catholic" and being CATHOLIC. Understand my meaning?

i do believe you. i know what "the books" say. but what you dont get, or are at least appearing no to get, is that religion and faith isnt that anymore. its power and politics, and has been for a very long time. and thats what has ruined major organized religions.

I completely, one hundred percent agree with you. Organized religions are corrupt, in general, which is why I don't go to church. It's also why I like to argue with people who do go to church.

I've said this to my roommate several times in the past. It always just causes him to get up and leave the room... which just pisses me off, more.

Actually I would say Christians are in the news more considering Bush is a Christian, Catholics do not take a literal interpretation of the bible (and hence generally believe in evolution), and they're simply nowhere near as nutty as evangelicals.

I used to have a great article on these whacky anti-abortion Christian women who would secretly get abortions. Then after the abortion they went back to protesting against abortion clinics. Fucking nut jobs.

lol....ok, so at least we're on the same page here i think. but why bring it up with the roommate if it bothers you both that much. the other thing is that religion is very very personal to some people. and that honestly, they just do not see the other side of it. so, good for them. as long as they are happy, and not forcing their shit down my throat, i leave them be.

I don't mean "in the news" in terms of being physically there so much as I mean their messages being present. The Catholic church has an unbelievable amount of money... you'd be surprised how often they have an influence over what makes it into the news.

But yes, as far as Christians go, they're definitely "in the news" in a physical sense a lot more often.

A Catholic does not have to beleive in everything the pope says. A Christian does not have to beleive in everything the bible says. A Buddhist does not always follow all of the teachings of buddha.

People should choose their religion based on which one they beleive has the best values, and fits their lifestyle best.

Its ignorant racist fucks like you that make me feel bad to be an athiest. All catholics arent the same as the backwards ones you've ran into in your backwards country. Besides I bet you've met way more catholics than you know, its only the extremely fucked up ones that make it all obvious.
