Markus Schulz - Miami '05

Just picked up this CD from the local FYE.

The cover slip is pretty when you take it out of the CD case. It has some nice pictures in it and this little paragraph that made me smile:

"It's Sunday night, the clouds overhead are thick. Which on a Sunday night is a good thing. You see Sunday nights are special around here. It is a night that people all over the world tune in to what is beaming out of a radio antenna perched high above the tropical landscape and neon facades. It is a night that many people actually hope for clouds. You see, on a cloudy night around here, the radio frequencies bounce off the clouds and is able to be picked up by the faithful listeners on an island 90 miles off the southern most tip of the keys. This night is not like any other night at all. This is Sunday night in Miami. The home of Markus Schulz and his radio show Global DJ Broadcast. This is the night that fans all over the world unite around their radios and computers. The night that has given Miami a musical identity not understood by the herds of celebrity partiers that converge on South Beach every weekend. This is a night of pure musical passion."

-March, 2005

So far, I'm done listening to the first half of CD 1 and I'm really digging this stuff. I love Markus and everything he does, especially the GDJB.

Review to come later tonight.

EDIT:

Just finished listening to both CD's.

Here's my review:

CD 1 is a really interesting mix but it seems as though the tune selection is jumping all over the place. I still enjoyed listening to it. Unfortunately, it ended with one of the songs that I don't find any interest at all (I despise it, actually). Really ruined the experience.

CD 2 was disappointing, however. It started off with a sloppy mix from Fanatic into Sublimate and only went downhill from there. The tunes were really rather subpar and overplayed by now. Things were looking awesome after track 9 (Connected) started playing but it ended as soon as the final track (just as in CD 1), Language, came on.

Top Tunes:

Fluid in Motion - Soul Dimension
Progresia presents Sokaya - A Little Hazy Morning

Rating of 1-10 Scale (1 being the worst, 10 being the best)

Markus Schulz - Miami '05 ===== 5/10

If you want to own a BAD Global DJ Broadcast, purchase it at all means. Not worth buying, in my opinion. However, you should give it a listen-through if you get your hands on it. One or two of the tunes might interest you.

Wasn't much of a review thread, now was it?

When you have to flip through 5 pages of posts before you get to the first real review, that's not a review thread.

Hmm, i was thinking of buying this one.. I bought ASOT 05 this morning and I couldn't find Miami 05 yet. Is it already released in Holland? Does anyone know?

How is this cd in comparison to Coldharbour Sessions 2004? Much worse? Cause i have played that cd like a million times

it's different! listen to the samples @astralmusic.nl:

while coldharbour sessions was more for home listening miami is more club orientated. after pre-listening I couldn't find any elements that made coldharbour sessions last year so great. it's a completely different cd which has nothing in common with coldharbour sessions. I was also looking forward to this one but now I think this is too much of fast prog without any feelings.. don't know, my first impression..

OMG!
Hydroid - Blue Tubes - Intro Mix is Sick!
just started listening...

Posted by wwu.punisher on Mar-26-2005 22:47:

I just got a copy.

He threw down "Keo Nozari - Close Enough (Noel Sanger Mix)" on the first disc. I went nuts. I was saying MONTHS ago that this track is a stormer. SO glad that someone finally realized it and put it into a good mix album.

Overall, I really like this album. Lots better than Armin's ASOT 2005 album... and probably one of the best mix albums that will come out this year. Markus Schulz is quality.

Dont understand why anyone would start a mix with Bakke & Ljungquist. Very odd. Should of been in the middle of the mix where it belongs

Bakke did win the GDJB Bedroom DJ Contest... so I'm guessing he was promised something like that. Personally, I think it's HORRIBLY out of place.

I believe it was some sort of special edit, Cause when the track started, It sounded kind like some sort of Intro Edit of the track.

I agree that CD2 is not as good as CD1... but how was the mix from Fanatic to Sublimate sloppy?

Posted by ninetyninej on Mar-27-2005 06:02:

CD 1 is better than CD 2 but I did love the ending to CD 2...overall I'd give the compilation 9/10.

^5 Markus

Posted by mmilo on Mar-28-2005 02:34:

Just heard it (not too very thoroughly though, admittedly).
It's no Coldharbour (listened to Coldharbour enough times..), but I like it.

Posted by Tayfoon on Mar-28-2005 10:00:

The Fanatic is an intro edit made by Joni

I disagree

The Compilation is not as bad as I thought, but overall Coldharbour Sessions was a bit better imo. Also nice mixing by Markus.

Only a word..... COOOOOOLL!!!

Posted by wwu.punisher on Mar-29-2005 04:13:

Having listened to disc one several times, now, I'm going to go ahead and call this the release of the year as far as mix albums go. I just don't think anyone else is going to release such a stellar compilation.

Posted by The_One on Mar-29-2005 04:25:

Disc 1 is my fav by far.The entire complilation is pretty damn good but disc 1 is too good from start to finish.
