Smile My WMC trip so far

Well, here in Miami. Its thursday night, bout to head over to Tiesto; just wanted to share my experiences so far. Where do I start....MIAMI IS INSANE!! Last night went to spin to see Armin van Buuren. He played an awesome set and dropped an unrecognizable new remix of Adagio for Strings, played alot of new tunes I couldn't ID, wasn't really tryin to..the energy of that club was beyond anything I have ever seen in TX tho. Gabriel and Dresden showed up there after there set at Crowbar just to here Armin and Markus Schulz play...needless to say I was a bit surprised to see them both there in the VIP area. Got to speak to all 3 of em for a bit, really cool guys.
Today I went to the beach, watched to FINE topless women put suntan lotion on each other and make out. Walked down the beach for a few and found Paul van Dyk enjoying a few moments alone on the beach. I didn't talk to him since I figured he probably wanted the solitude but he was cool when I went to shake his hand. Initially I walked up to joke and tell him he looked like Paul (not realizing it was actually him) and yeah...lol.
Well..like I said, its been one hell of a trip so far. Rode 28 hours on a bus to get here, crashing on different friend's hotel room floors since I cant afford $200-300 a night. Anyway, found a cafe that had internet access and just thought I'd drop you guys a line. I really wish all of you all could be here as well... WMC is like a mini-Ibiza. Def cant wait for Ultra

If I had the money and vacation time, I would of drove us there.

Now that I have a decent income, I'm saving up for next year.

Matthias--you are the man--we all talk about it, but you sucked it up & spent a day+ on a bus to get there.

Like everyone else, I'll say 2006, baby!!

YES!!! Next year we all have to come out here together. I really f*cking wish you guys coulda been at Club Space last night. THAT WAS AWESOME!! I have NEVER seen a club event go down like that. Tiesto.....holy sh*t..

I got new respect for the man. His sets in Texas came nowhere near what he brought last night. He played a 6 hour set!!! My only complaint was it took us a few hours to get in since the club was at capacity, luckily the 3 day pass line wasnt as long as general admission, then once we got inside they had the main room blocked off and wanted people to be in the side room (that had speakers playing what was played from the main room) but I wasnt gonna have that. when the bouncers got distracted I made for it and got past them without being spotted thank god. I couldnt ID alot of the tracks except for Whiteroom - Someday (instrumental), a new version of Adagio for Strings that Armin played the previous night, Just Be (not one of my favorites..but the whole damn room was singin along which was pretty cool). I was pretty damn dead after the event and still feeling outta it, God knows how I'm gonna cope with Paul van Dyk's set tonight. Many say he's gotten a bit harder since October of last year, if he plays near as long a set that Tiesto did, I'm gonna be too incapacitated the day after for Ultra lol.

Seriously...Im gonna be in a TON of debt after this, but I can say coming uout here is completely worth it. South Beach, a ton of women from all over the world, parties all the damn time, all over south beach...its crazy. Sorry to say I do not own a camera, but I am going to have friends of mine over here email me them. But yeah...all I gotta say is that everyone on here needs to make it out for WMC 2006 and I suggest everyone start saving today for it. Its something everyone has to see. Off tro the beach, I'll be back to report on PVD's set.

You're making us all jealous man, but I'm happy for ya.

I had the money and all this year, but I just have rent, college, groceries, gas, etc. to pay for.

I cry.

What really sucks for me is that I'm going to miss Sasha/Diggers play together.

Posted by The_One on Mar-26-2005 06:28:

Hmm I wonder if the Remix of Adagio for Strings you are talking about is the new Phynn mix

Posted by DJ_Ballistic on Mar-26-2005 08:29:

i think it's the dj danjo & rob styles remix tiesto's been playin lately

Posted by SID133 on Mar-26-2005 19:27:

Sad

i wanted to go but i had to settle some tickets

have fun yo i want to make it out next year good health willing

Posted by Matthias on Mar-26-2005 19:55:

goddamn.....I dunno how Im gonna make it through Ultra. Just not used to partyin from 10pm to 10am that often

I got to Club Space pretty early a lil after doors open to avoid the bullshit right before I saw Tiesto the other night (club reaching capacity). Edgar V was playing already and I am glad I caught his set. Him and I really have alot of the same tastes in progressive as far as the basslines and mixing are concerned. Paul van Dyk got on at 1 and played until 5am. With little surprise, his set was the best one I have seen so far. He played alot of new production/remix work I couldnt recognize except that they contained his basslines. TRacks I did recognize (to my very shot memory):

Ridgewalkers ft El - Find (Paul van Dyk remix) (F*CKING TUNE!!!!!!)
Marcos - Cosmic String (Marc van Linden remix)
Marcos - Just for a Day (MvL remix)
Whiteroom - Whiteroom
Whiteroom - Someday (instrumental)
PvD - Connected (Markus Schulz remix)
PvD - Nothing But You
(track containing lyrics "jump the next train"..pvd production or remix)
E-Craig Vs. Alegria - Global Drum Attack (212 Dub)
Paul van Dyk feat Vega 4 - The Other Side
Randy Kantana - Fancy Fair 2005 (PvD edit?)
Mojado - Senorita
Jesselyn - Omnia
Steve Agnello & Sebastian Ingrosso - Yeah
Inertia - The Chamber
U2 - Where The Streets Have No Names (Nu NRG Remix)

All of the others I didn't recognize while a few I heard before but didnt recall the names. The first 30 minutes of hisset was more proggy in tempo, though I am guessing these were tracks from Politics of Dancing 2 coming out soon. Rest of the set was pretty bangin and it was finally cool to be in a venue where every last person there was there to see Paul van Dyk; no julios for once. At least 30 other people had the vandit shirt or some other pvd related shirt and he seemed to like that. I have NEVER seen Paul that animated before, but yeah I gotta say this set beat out anything I saw in 2004 at least.

From 5am until.....whenever, Ferry Corsten played what I thought would be a more mellow set (seein as I was ready to pass the hell out) hahahaha NOPE!!! That crazy dutchman was trying to outdo Paul's set...that didn't quite happen however I can say that he played 1000 times better than he played at MBAR in houston. For those who havent been to Club Space in Miami...they got this damn horn with a hangin pull-handle like you see on a 18 wheeler...probably was the same thing. Tiesto and van Dyk used it very sparingly when it would only work the best with the vibe (after insane builds n such) Ferry....was havin way too much fun with it. All I can say The ravers seemed to like it tho but.. its all good

Tracks he played I spotted:

Mirco de Govia - Volle Stern (Super 8 remix)
Thrillseekers - Synathesia 2004 (Ferry Corsten remix)
Above and Beyond - No One on Earth (G&D remix)
Ferry Corsten - Punk (new unknown remix)
Ferry Corsten - Rock Your Body Rock (new unknown remix)
^^^ (those two were the highlight of his set..much better than the originals)

I cant really remember anything else he played, I was pretty exhausted by the time he came on and God only knows why I decided to stick around until 10. Anyways...gonna try to have some kinda energy for Ultra 7. After careful thought The 5 best sets in order of personal preference would be:

1. Paul van Dyk (shitload of new tracks, had the most people dancing)
2. (close second) DJ Tiesto
3. Ferry Corsten...he did as good a job mixing as Tiesto did, but I just wasnt ready to endure bangin sh*t at wee hours of the morning..it was
4. Armin van Buuren....had he of gotten to place at Space rather than Spin my overall impression mighta been better. He was either playing too loud or the system at spin just wasnt very good (bass was distorting the speakers). Solid mixing though.
5. Markus Schulz

So whats the deal with all this I've been hearing about some parties getting shut down because of noise complaints.

*shrug* I haven't heard anything...but there were so many parties going on, alot of em free hotel pool parties..there mioghta been an issue with a few of them.

Im getting ready to endure a looong bus ride back to Houston But it has been an incredible week. Again, I say none of this to make anyone jealous, I know I felt that way when I missed WMC the last 3 years..hell I wish everyone coulda at least have seen Ultra last night. I have no idea and cannot begin to speculate how many people were at least in the main stage amphitheater area. Pretty damn crowded and getting to the front was an impossibility. However, the vibe was unbelieveable with tens of thousands dancing at once after the beats dropped. The lighting/laser/video screen displays were the best I have seen in a while. I got there a littel after dark when Paul Oakenfold got off and Junkie XL performed. He did a pretty good job and really got into his set. Tiesto was after him and while he put on a good show, it was nothing compared to his set at Space. After Tiesto for the final 2 hours was Paul van Dyk who DESTROYED that area, so far this is the largest party I have seen him play at. I'm a bit undecided on which of his sets I preferred, the club space one was much longer but this one the vibe was out of control. Well I gotta head out....see everyone next week at NU NRG. Be on the look out for videos of Ultra since a ton of em were being shot

my first time in the WMC,
i had an amazing once in a lifetime experience.

althoug i did not enter space for any of the events because of the progresively incresing price of tix and the huge f**ing lines.
BUT, I did get to enter nikki beach BBC radio one party on friday in which i had fun, but the music was rather bad because of tech problems and shortage of equipment (lines were imposible and the people at the doors and around the fence can come and suck my balls because they made it IMPOSIBLE to get into the FREE party.

On the ULTRA 7 I got there at the exact time as avb started and that made my day! what an amazing set. full of AVB enegry!
later i moved to the main stage and managed to get to the first row. Oaky's set was super and then Junkie XL destroyed the place. leaving Tiesto and PVD with no other direction than to throw more energy onto the crow. Tiesto got up and started good enough, then he slumped like for 2 or 3 tunes, after it he exploded and finished leaving PVD with a already tired but hungry for music crowd. The godfather of the ultra fest (as he was incroduced by the mc) came on and pulverised the crowd!

I raved from 2 pm to 12:30 ..... WAOOOOOOOO
I've never seen soooo much people together .......
i did not attend the carry-on because my feet felt like boats!

well., now on the airport i write this review for you all..
they are boarding now.

WOW!! what an amazing day at Ultra! Jesus christ! I hope that was like heaven because words cannot explain the feeling at the event!

Tiesto disintegrated the crowd with his set. He played some songs there that I wish I would have ID'd, but the trance was so beautiful, there was no time to think or breath! I was dancing my ass off. I had also never seen Junkie XL spin live. That f*cking monkey has skill! However, no one matched the crowds energy like PVD. When that guy hit those tables, right from the start, he made the crowd go mad. The MC had a good reason to call PVD the "Godfather of Ultra Festival" like he called him. PVD had angels surrounding his soul when he spinned, because it couldnt get any better than that!

Well I went to the afterparty mainly to see Sasha and Digweed. There were rumors that Sasha & Digweed will start touring again, essentially to a new upcoming album composed by both of them. But again, these were words that floated around the arena. I hop it happens because these two guys are what started me 5 years ago into the trance scene, mainly Sasha. Sasha played some stuff off of Involver, which was great. But he also played sme choons there that sounded a lot like him that I had never heard before. Might this be whats going to be on that new compilation??

God Bless you Sasha, Armin, PVD, Digweed!!

PEACE!

just got back home...no way in hell am I takin the bus again, but this year I was gonna get there no matter what. I am just glad I went for WMC and not just Ultra. PvD, Ferry and Tiesto's sets at Space will be in my memories for a long time to come. Same goes for Armin's set at Spin. Amazing week....

shit I wouldn't even no where to start... hahaha. I saw soo much crazy shit out there I could type for hours. The best one was Ferry Corsten at Space... some chick wrote "HONK if you wanna see some titties" or whatever she wrote, and he honked the truck horn in the DJ booth and 3 girls flashed him at once. The split second look on his face before he cracked up was priceless, shit had me laughin the past 3 days

HOLY FUCKIGN HELLL MIAMI IS THE SHITTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!

On thursday i got there, went to a latin/hiphop bar (sr.frogs) with some friends, nothing electronic, just bitches dancing booties off.
Friday went off to Nikki Beach around 4pm, missed zabs and deep dish sadly, but thar place was a fucking blast. You had topless chicks dancings, everyone going wild, it was pumping then it slowed down and we went to chill to the beach. Essential came up witth G&D and Desyn Masiello but we we already went out of the area and it was way to full to go back in so we said fuck it
Later that night, we hit Space were PVD, Ferry and Sander were spinning. I got there around 1 am, and the line was fucking HUGE. It took us about 3 hours to get it, went in about 4 30. Headed to the mainroom to watch about 25 minutes of PVDs set which ended around 5am. Cant remember much of what tracks he dropped but new respect to him. Hes so much different live, lots of energy.
5 am came and we headed up to the terrace to see Sander spin. FUCKING HELL. what a set!!!!! i danced all fucking night, once the sun started to come up the set was banging like fuuuck everyone going crazy. Awesome crowd, everyoen was cool. We made a group of friends inside, i even got to hit a joint that somehow came to me. He dropped some tracks off Everybody Too, not many though, Yes - Owner of a Lonely Heart (max graham remix), Sander K - The Fruit (x2) (crowd went MADDDD with this one!!!), and i cant remember much as i was fucked up in pretty much the whole day/night. But it was so fucking good, definetly one of the best shows in the WMC. I left around 10 am and he was still going at it. I had no more strength left in me though and Ultra was now 5 hours away. SO got home, slept woke up and headed out to ultra around 6.
Got there, and headed off to the Steve Lawler stage which was banging. Then just went around see what was up, Moby had a nice crowd, stayed there for a few minutes, headed off to Erik Morillo. He was nuts as well, awesome set by that man. Then we went to catch some of Tiesto sets and PVDs. You had to stand on the side looking down to them unless u had VIP then u were inside the VIP area were they played. Anyways it sounded pretty good, we just chilled a bit there and headed off to Danny Howells. Definitely one of the best DJs. Howells set was one of my top favorites in the WMC as well, he ripped the place apart. After his set we went off to the AA arena for zabs, cattaneo, lavelle and Sasha/Diggers. Went in around 1am. Caught about 30 min of Zabs set. He dropped Aphex Twin - Widowclicker (Kriece remix) when we went inside the arena. Cant remember what else, he swithced with Cattaneo he would drop a track, Zabs would EFX it, then Lavelle took over.
He was spinning some weird shit, i didnt really like it. Nothing pumping, just rockish/electronic music. I do remember him dropping WoW - Reign (Unkle Remix), that was good. Then finally Sasha and Diggers took over. I dont remember them playing anything off involver as someone said above. Most of the tracks were new to me. THe arena then had some laser show, i was going nuts. Their set ended ans Sasha took over and used ableton as he dropped The Killed - Mr. Brightside (White Thin Duke Remix) all efx on ableton. TRACK OF THE NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The whole place was FUCKING NUTS with this, loved it. They played the best set in All of WMC.
Got home around 9am and then we just chilled on sunday.
What a trip, im so glad i went, best time ive had evaaaar. I never took my camera to any of the events, but bunch of my buds had cameras so ill see that they send me the pics.
