it's got an Aphex Twin feel.

Posted by BshidoHEAT on Mar-29-2005 03:09:

Definitely a Aphex Twin feeling to the track. Although I'd classify it more American Prog than IDM. Best part of the track, was the break beat part. Please do a break beat mix of it! That'd be holy!

Posted by deejayTHUNDER on Mar-29-2005 03:26:

i'll definately do a breaks mix to it soon... thanx for checkin out the track.

BWHAAHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by gerrycueto on Mar-29-2005 21:19:

just cuz they're not producers doesn't mean they're idiots... Djs and consumers obviously have a taste in music too and can give useful feedback as well.... probably a consumer's feedback would be better for this track since I didn't get much out of it other than it had an Aphex Twin feel.

I believe it's spelled "DIAL-up."

Posted by deejayTHUNDER on Mar-29-2005 21:53:

DOH!-dial up*

dude i just gave everyone the credit that they know their shit and thats why i post nething that i do in this forum... the ppl that i do chill with for the most part except for like 2 ppl are idiots to electronica that think anything with a faster than hip hop beat is trance...

i'm referring to the people on this forum... not to your "friends" elsewhere.

The clubbers here know what to expect in a good trance track. That's why you should befriend them as well as the producers/DJs.

but it's good to show to your friends too... because the only way you can know if you have talent is if people who have nothing to do with your craft can appreciate your music.

I send out my music to rock and roll friends and hiphop friends as well hardcore TAs because if the non-TAs can appreciate it, then I know I'm headed in the right direction.

I may not know or like country, but I can tell the difference between a crappy-made country track and a good country track.

I think the point of this thread was ...

WHAT DID U THINK ABOUT THE TRACK? PLZ POST COMMENTS AND CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISMS HERE!

Anyhow, my opinion was the track was a flight of steps up from his recent works.. also I thought it had a very cool feel to it melody-wise but i think the track would sound magnificent with a female vocal to it.

Hope that helps!

and btw- raul you know who thunder is, thats messed up that u have to spell check him after going to see him play @ my casa

Posted by gerrycueto on Mar-29-2005 22:07:

enough female vocals... put male ones... like rock vocals.

Nah man..I never met the guy. I was drunk as hell at your party and babysitting my entire crew who was also blasted drunk. The only DJs I rememeber seeing that night were Relik, Jonathan, and you. I never saw, let alone, met Thunder. I wasn't even there long enough to see Eric play, we bailed early.

Posted by Eyekon on Mar-29-2005 22:52:

dude how would you be able to put rock vocals on a melodic/proggy track?

it depends on your take of rock i guess, but when i hear rock i think of kravitz, slipknot, etc... not alternative

Posted by gerrycueto on Mar-29-2005 22:57:

ever heard of Paul van Dyk? vocals like Crush, Time of Our Lives, The Other Side... they pwn hard!

Posted by Eyekon on Mar-29-2005 23:13:

of course ive heard them, but those people SING. theres a difference. and besides, between us, the dope part is what they say..not the male vocals..they sound really gay. lol

besides, im not going to sit her in front of my computer and talk about producing when i dont produce. i came on here to critique his track, and my personal opinion was it needed a vocal. i suggested a female one, which ironically, according to thunders message back to me on IM, was something he thought of doing too.

anyhow, glad to hear that ur track MEssages got on PVD's playlist btw. congrats.

=C

And Raul, per ur statement above... very well then hey why dont u IM me focker..xcarl0sx on aim... foO!

Rock vocals on a trance track....Im sorry but either I have never heard of that or I just think that idea would just ruin it. I welcome you to show me an example of this b/c I myself do like rock too but....my first impression of that comment was EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. *listening to track right now, will post what I think in a bit*

Ok...just for ppl who dont know me other than DA my background is...I was going for a music education degree at University of Florida but...ended up getting my degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering...Music has always been a big part of my life....I love Trance....bottom line...is that enough of a background...prolly not but it does quailify me to make a comment!

I love the melody and my first impression was that I loved it...but after I was finished listening to the whole thing and reading over the previous comments to get me in the more "critical mode" I realized it left me feeling dry at that end but with alot of potential...what I mean is...the melody was cool and hooked me, it started my expectation for more....but that was it for about 3/4ths of the track...even at the point where the melody dropped off and you restarted to build I still wasnt impressed b/c it was pretty much the same melody even though you kicked in some base....my thought was at that 3/4ths way is it would be a great transitioner type of track or something that can be used to add on to something else....at the point where the volume starts to increase, the beat was a bit faster and it sounded like there were bongos in the background @ about 3/4ths is where my interest peaked again...the volume increased some more and the base seemed to get a bit harder...I thought you were going to take off but you didnt.....overall it was more melodic which I like....but the only thing memorable was the melody and the part at the end where it seemed to go into more of a soft break beat style. I think you should TRY vocals although it might take away from that awesome melody.....I think if you dont do vocals though, try something with that melody, make it more memorable. Its the hook in the song. I can imagine myself dancing to it and zoning in on that melody and almost getting hypnotized by it.

Hope that helps,
faith

thanks dude.. heh i like the sound of the vocals tho... I'm tired of the typical female vocals... maybe something like Alanis Morisette or Amy Lee or Avril Lavigne (as poser as you think she is. I think that Leama and Moor remix her track fit her vocals better than the original did) would own on a trance track... or maybe something with a R&B feel... but the same old pop ballad (Satellite, Castles in The Sky, Coderoy - Deeper, Rank1 - Breathing) female pop ballad vocalists just aren't cutting it anymore in trance music IMO... I think producers should take a break from that stuff... because it's getting old already.. was good for 1999, but we need something different in regards to vocals. Although the music has changed quite a bit since the time, the vocals remain the same, and it's been overdone.

and for the ew guy there's a lot of good shit out there... like Terry Bones's remix of George McMann - Cry Little Sister and Tiesto's Kane - Rain Down on Me remix.. ameobaassassin - piledriver and of course all the PvD tracks that have rock-style vocals. As corny as it sounds, trance is so broad you can throw any types of vocals on it depending on the style... having Lil Jon hollering on a hard trance track might actually sound good.

obviously they woudln't ride well on a fluff trance track, but this isn't really a fluffy epic, uplifting trancer or whatever you wanna call it... it's more of an oldschool Aphex Twin sound... yeah probably a lot in the production would have to be changed to suit it, but I hear the potential.

Hello! Edited

I edited btw

great review... you've covered most of the music part! When I get home, I'll listen to it and listen out for the sound part. I remember from when I heard it, the drum samples and grooves could have been better and the mix could be more powerful.

Reviews

Yeah I used to run a server on IRC with at least 50Gigs of trance and a bit of the other stuff and was a pretty close nit group until political bullcrap seeped in, thats where I met DA a few years ago. A few of them have come to me personally for a review....what can I say....I love trance. So hit me up if you ever want another one. That way I can get into your stuff too...and get to know your styles specifically. I am a musician myself, not a dj....but I have had alot of "feedback" so I can understand why you would want it.

Yeah, MTD...Political...Wonder how that got involved.

I also heard Rainy had a heart attack...not sure if she survived that though, I don't go into MTD much anymore.

good stuff!... I too give long annoying feedbacks, but the tune would have to move me in someway... in a bad way or in a good way for me to go nuts feedbacking : This track however was pretty middle of the road for me... not good, not bad, but yeah I'll check it out again when I get home for the sound quality (which I noticed was lacking), Since you did 50% of the job and covered all the musical arrangement parts. Together we'll shape this tune into a dancefloor rocker
