-- Visuals @ A Party
Visuals @ A Party
Some friends and I decided to throw a party and we have lighting for it etc the whole setup... but my friend asked me about visuals, he likes the ones in winamp and wanted me to know if it was possible to get them up on a screen. We have a projection thingy that looks like this below...
do u guys use any visuals at partys and if so, what do you use...
Get a whole bunch of computers and a gemlock or any video mixer and layer the stuff and do some tripy stuff. just search for something on the net that does the visuals to the music and use the line in on the computer.
I like iTunes the best for my visuals.
i like the shadows of dancing women.
a party my friend did a long time ago, he just took some cheap colored paper and put lights under the paper, looked fantastic.
Try this little piece of free software....very very cool, and can run with the music and add text: http://draves.org/bomb/
It's small but if used on a laptop with a video out, and hook up to the line in or mic in and it really works wonders, and best yet...it's free!!
http://www.beatharness.com is what You want. So far, it's the best I've ever used. It has visuals with a mixer, turntables and just your standard HIGH QUALITY visualizations. It's AMAZING but you'll need a decent video card. I'm running it on a 64mb & its fine. Goes to the beat !

I agree on Beatharness aswell, plus you can add your own pics in for it to effect, same with your own videos, if not that check out Milkdrop and R4.
just make sure you test it all out before so you can make sure you like the look of it.
yeah i have had a look at Beatharness too its quite good... just so long as you dont do what half the shitty clubs around here do and rock the windows media player for visuals.
also not sure if its an off topic thing but you could consider hire or purchace of a little smoke machine and rotating disco ball with light's?
Have fun with it all anyway man
If it's a party with only friends and family running slide shows of pics with you and your friends on a projector works really well,
ALso Moby Play DVD the second DVD if I recall has some nice visuals...
I would love to get some James Bond THeme visuals with the naked chicks and fire and water and spear guns and shit, on 3 or 4 projectors covering every wall.
That beatharness is pretty nice. Just another thing on my neverending list of items to buy.

Go to www.vjcentral.com for extensive info on vjing and such
If you are running under the Mac OS platform I'd recommend Grid www.vidvox.net the software in it's basic versions costs around 100 bucks. It allows you to trigger pre edited video clips and mix them.
If you're feeling adventurous try this free software http://goldbergs.com/dervish/
Beatharness rocks, we used it at a TA Party we had last year, i threw a load of pics and videos together and it rocked.
We are planning to use it again later in the year, its a fantastic bit of software i recommend it!

Scanners and moving-heads from Martin are the best.
Went to a party a few weeks back where all they had was a static camera pointed at the TTs from the side and slightly in-front, sort of looking along the booth.
That was projected up onto a screen with inverted colours, kinda cool effect with the dj moving around and cueing stuff up etc. Real simple too if you have a small camera
You can see what I mean about the colours in the back right there:
Its the only pic I could find that has the screen at all (stolen from ITM)
Thats the tripod for the cam as well, its pointed along the decks
