Sin City

Sin City, I saw it last night. Incredible cinematography, Lotsa Action, Comic Book Feel and dialogue, jessica alba in a skimpy cowboy suit, Very good use of colors = good. Flat characters, lotta weird sex/violence scenes, jessica alba in a cowboy suit kissing bruce willis = bad discuss.

saw it last night myself and i can't wait to see it again! f'n excellent movie...one of my favorites now.

jessica alba was smokin but i thought J. King was way hotter as "goldie".


everyone needs to go see it, it's very funny and entertaining. quenton never lets me down...he is bringing about a new revolution of movie making i think.

The movie was done by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. Tarantino had nothing to do with how this movie was done.

And it was a pretty good movie. I was expecting more from it though. I thought the pacing was a little slow sometimes. I liked how a lot of it was done through narration, just like in the comics. But they could've done a much better job developing the plot.

True, most of my friends were like 'yeah thats tarantino for you, all that crazy shit" and I said that he only directed one scene and that was it.

As for the movie, it freaking rocks. I can't wait to see it again. Lots of crazy ass violence. And this is probably the only movie that Elijah Wood will freak the crap out of me.

i want to see it. i had to settle for pr0n movie i downloaded earlier in the week. just got time to watch it today. blond with braces shoecases her bj skills. very hot!

Great movie.

It's one where you watch it the first time to get used to the feel of it and then the second and third time is even more entertaining than the first and you pick up more details and whatnot.

but did u guys notice the use of the colors? I think they each represented something. I'm not sure what though. What puzzled me was the opening and closing scene. I was clueless during each.

it was just the entire thing coming together. at the beginning you see a serial killer kill a woman in a red dress, then at the end he kills the girl in the elevator with the blue eyes. all the storys were connected in some way.

Wow, this movie sucked. We almost walked out.

Jessica Alba is the hottest thing alive though.

Is he a serial killer or somewhat a hired Assassin? He seemed more the ladder, but it can be argued that he's both since they both define pretty much hand in hand.

But following the original material, which was he meant to be?

My friend recomended this movie to me tonight. She said Mickey Rourke was built, SICK. But I like Mickey & I wanna see it & I heard it brings a sort of depression to mankind, but alot of movies have.

One of my favorite movies I've seen. That being said its not for everyone. For me, no neo-noir movie has so effectively been done as Sin City, although Memento is a good second, it captured everything that made film noir one of the best and most original genres in film. The dialogue, the scenery, the characters, everything was focused and effective. Another deterent to many people may be how that movie is so heavily influenced by graphic novels, as it appears to be a moving graphic novel. As for the casting, bitch about Bruce Willis all you want, he played the film noir anti-hero perfectly, providing the most depth of all the characters. Clive Owen was amazing, but I like to imagine how well Humphry Bogart would have fit in to that role. Anyways not everyone will share my enthusiasm, but I loved Sin City.

The movie is definitely unique, that's for sure. I think Quentin Tarantino did direct one or two scenes as a guest director, though I'm not sure which ones those were.

It had the feel of an old fashioned P.I. movie, but yet the violence and such was quite a modern fashion. To be perfectly honest, the violence was a bit excessive in my opinion, and not because I'm squeamish or anything. It was just like, dude's dead. Now let's hack the body to bits for five minutes.

All in all, I loved the three inter-related plotlines, as well as the way the film was shot -- the pseudo black and white, with the flashes of color here and there. I don't know what the colors represented either.

There are two main complaints I had about the movie. One was the disconcerting use of humor in strange spots. Like the guy gets shot 15 times and they flash to him in a hospital bed saying "they should have just shot me in the head". It didn't fit the overall mood of the movie at all for me.

My other complaint is that during the scene where Bruce Willis goes in for the score on Jessica Alba I began to get some pretty bad indigestion, until I realized that it was my heart getting torn in half.

Actually Quintin directed one scene in Sin City and Robert paid him $1 to do it which was the same amount Tarantino paid Rodriguez to compose the score for kill bill vol 2. He directed the scene in which Dwight is in the car with Jackie Boy and starts freaking out.

I LOVED the movie. I knew it would not dissapoint. My only gripe about it is that it didnt include "A Dame to Kill For". If Rodriguez would have kept that in it would have helped develop Dwight's character a little better but then again I think it would have confused the audience too much.

Theories..

Seen it twice and this is now my favorite film of the moment and in my very top 5 of all time.

Ok lets go ahead and start talking about the color.
These are opinions so feel free to add to, take away, or prove me wrong.

Red was used almost exclusively for the good guys or at least what most people would percieve to be the good guys. Clives shoes were red, and I thought it was awesome how they managed to show it even during the explosion at The Pits. Blood was red ONLY on or from the good guys.

Lets look at that with a little more...

The blood on Marv was always red
The blood FROM Del Toro that splattered ON to Miho turned red.
The blood from Willis' character was also always red.
The cops lights were red, and there was no proof whether or not the cops were crooked or not. So I guess we could assume they were honest cops with good intentions?
BUT There was the red light on the detonator that did EVENTUALLY end up in Clive's hands.
Even his car shown bright red, and there was Goldie that was all color, and bright red lipstick.
That being said there is a few wholes in this theory. The woman at the very start of the movie was wearing a red dress, and bright red lipstick.
ALSO the blood from little Frodo's arms and legs was red only AFTER Marv had cut him to shit. So I dunno...

WHITE was the color of Del Toro's blood when Mijo cut the shit out of him, as well as all of his little thugs.
Blood shone white on most others killed or injured save the gross yellow bastard.

Blue, blue was used on what could have been shown as bad character, or characters with bad intentions.

The broad who squeled on her friends and got them busted up had her blue eyes. Then Del Toro's car was also blue. ALTHOUGH Mijo had bits of both red and blue on her. Her dress was blue, but her brazier was red. Could she have been a little of both?

GREEN the eyes.. The first woman had eyes that flashed green as something was said. The senators brother (forgive me I don't remember the name) had green eyes all throughout. Was it because they helped facilitate and endulged in the sickness around them? I suppose the woman could have been both bad and good somehow as well. Though I don't remember seeing Mijos eyes change any colors (I'll watch it again soon).

Actual Color. Was shown in the bar in certain areas of the lights. It was also shown on Goldie, and Clive as the officers light was in his face. Does this say something about the person, setting, or the lights? I don't know but I'll get back to you on that.

A multitude of colors including, red, green, blue, and yellow were in in the car as Clive drove Del Toro to the pits. I don't understand that one but could it be because his mind was slipping at the time?
If that was the case then Marv would have had it around him as well as he drove.

Not sure.. Anyone else care to take a stab at this?

Things of note.
The men that took the pills (Marv, Willis) all ended up in the hospital and had to sign confessions, and also ended up dying. Coincidental?
All men needed the women they were protecting just as much as they had needed them.

Oh, and the GOLD eye on the big guy. Not sure what that represented either.

C'mon lets get cracking with this if anyone is up to it.

that movie was fucking weird.

it was really confusing and hard to follow in my opinion, and I like weird movies.

movie: 2/5

the cinemantography is what saved an otherwise stale plot

Ripped Bag, I'm going to see it again at some point this week, hoefully tonight. I will get back to you on the colors, as I also am interested into what they stand for.

i think it's a bit far fetched to say that Quenton had "nothing to do with the film" as a guest director.


either way, the film rocked! i knew it was by frank miller, but from the style of the movie, i assumed quenton was a big influence on the how it was made.

i'm gonna go see it again this weekend
