There's a saying that goes, "he who enters a pope leaves a cardinal". It's impossible to predict really, since the Cardinals are always so mum about it. And since the media has been around, they've proved quite inept at predicting who will be chosen.

No idea who the next Pope should be but I think us Proddies should go to war with em and give everyone the right to go to Heaven no matter how many sins you committ!!!

There's also a saying that goes something like..."he who enters the boy becomes a cardinal"

Theoretically it is possible... the only requirement to be pope is that you are catholic.... you don't even need to be Roman Catholic. That being said, the chances of 117 old clergymen chosing someone other than one of their own to lead them are nearly non-existant.

Theoretically it isnt possible according to canon law to elect a women pope.........

It lists three classes that would be immeaditaly null and void if elected, and these are.......

1.A heretic

2.A schismatic(a member of a faction or seceded branch of a church)

3.A female

Although it is possible for a layman and even a married man to be elected pope, the pope used to have to be a cardinal up to the 12th century, before he could be elected......but nowadays the pope is elected by cardinals,he doesnt have to be nescessarily a cardinal to be elected pope.....

There is a legend in the catholic church of a women pope, pope joan, but this appears to be only a legend as their is no historical evidence to back this up.......but this legend was used by George Smileys mates the Prods to thwart catholics throughout the middle ages..........

Or an 8 year old girl with abnormally sized babylons!

Posted by Michael19 on Apr-07-2005 22:22:

the idea of replacing one dribbling vegatable with another who is soon to join that state always seems a bit strange to me.

There pretty fuck'd though, since they cant sack a pope. Also, its going to take an awful long tiem until they get in a cardinal who will try to reform the church, because it badly needs it.

Is it normal for the "candidates" to be so damn old? Is there some minimum age requirement or something? Why not have a 45 year old start it and be the Pope for the next 40 years instead of having to change every 5 years?

They have to be under 80 years old. If that's any comfort for you hehe.

The election process follow rather strict rules actually and I think new to this year is that the aspiring popes-to-be don't have to speak latin.

Most likely he will be a "transition" pope, which means he's not expected to stay much time alive anyway, but rather give some time so they can find a better candidate.

I don't know about that. It would be too cruel of the catholic powers to do that. Time is not an issue here. As more time goes by new candidates with new or modified ideas will arise. So you see, time will only make things worse for those who hold traditions dearly. The plan should be to choose a traditional candidate that is not that old but not that young. And this candidate should live long.

I say they will do a complete physical exam on all the old candidates and then they'll end up choosing the healthiest.
