It's all about the pastries!

Kudos go to you if you can tell me where this picture's from and why it's relevant to the topic.

Anyways, pastries are where it's at. Whether it's foreign or native, there are a ton of really good pastries out there that always make my mouth water.

Foreign

Poncheekee - Russian pastry which includes a really oily, but soft, ball of bread with a custard type filling inside.

Melon Bread - Japanese bread that consists of cookie dough and bread dough along with melon creme.

Doughnut - Dutch/Danish (still disputable) creation of a deep fried ring of dough/batter.

Native

The Twinkie - If you don't know what this is, you aren't allowed to post in this topic.

You're just jealous you don't have one at the moment.

Anyways, I've created a few different food-related topics in the past due to the fact that I'm always open to being introduced to new foods and the such. Wish I could be a chef, too.

I don't know what twinkie is.

But then again it's more of an American thing isn't it?

Twinkies aren't pastry, they're cake.... and shitty cake at that!

The king of pastry is strudel... end of discussion.

that being said I'm a sucker for all pastry... it's my weakness.

Sponge cake with a creamy filling. Does it look like a cake? No. Therefore you can easily categorize it as a pastry.

To each his own. Strudel is definitely awesome and it has so many different variations... however, I don't get cravings for strudel.

i don't really have a sweet tooth...the only sweet stuff i ever crave and eat regularly is ice cream/milk shakes. usually stick to good ol' chocolate. i'm not down w/ all the junky ice creams like ben & jerry's w/ every kind of candy bar/flavor you can think of in one pint...too much for me. i usually get either Butter Pecan or plain Chocolate...Haagen Dazs of course

when i was living in japan though, i ate a lot of pastries. the japanese make the best pastries because they're not as thick and rich/sweet as american pastries. lots of light, fluffy cream fillings and they use that sweet bean paste as a filling too...so good!

and all those pastries went great with those canned Georgia coffees...oh my god, i miss japan!

twinky is totally a cake. pastries tend to be baked and made with dough. not yellow cake mix.

yakitate!!

Obv, it's a show about baking bread and other fine pastries. Very funny.

I've never read the manga, but I assume he gets all crab like in episode 18-- cause I did notice him biting into a crab shaped bread in the episode preview at the end of 17.

Ding Ding! We got a winner. Yakitate!! Japan it is. That's Kuroyanagi with his usual "reaction" to eating a bread.

You're going to die laughing, assuming they animate the part in the manga correctly. I can't wait to watch the next episode.

Just because they put the icing on the inside does not mean it is no longer a cake. Any layer cake has icing inside.

I didn't rule it out as a cake.

Do they have a "Euro" menu there? (assuming you're in Europe)

2 pies for a buck in the US. They taste great when they're hot.
