if something is more formulaic than dance music, its modern pop.

Pop is more "generic" imo.

Trance could be the most formulatic for the most part. Its basically one of the only styles that almost has an exact form. There Isn't room for much variation, or it becomes another style.

'pop' is a general term. the difference styles of music in pop are very formulaic.
