Question Gamecube or Xbox (which one did you get/want?)

Ok, now that both systems are released who got a GCN and who got an Xbox? I didn't get any of them because I'm sticking with my PS2 for the time being but my friend got a GCN today. We stayed up all night then drove to Target at about 7:30 and stood in line waiting to get one (only waited 20 min). Got into the store, he stood in line while I went to pick up the accessories (I got the last RFU adapter ) and then we drove around to other stores to check out the lines. I told him to get his GCN out and hold it up to the window of the car, pointing and laughing at the people standing outside of Toys 'R' Us and Best Buy (because those stores didn't open until 11 and it was only 8:30 and we had ours already lol).

Anyway, about the Gamecube...that thing is TINY! The controller is also VERY confortable, I consider it the best controller ever actually. And for the graphics...they're amazing, he got the Star Wars Rogue Leader game and I am blown away by the detail and how the explosions look!

As for Xbox, did anybody actually get one of these or have any interest in it? Personally I don't see any games that I want for it past December so I'm not really interested in it. I also noticed that the controller for the XBox seems to break easily because in stores I've noticed the control stick was broke on ALOT of the stands (I'm not sure if this is being done deliberately or a defect with the controllers).

Anyway...I consider 2001 the best year for gaming ever.

Smiley DJ

I would go with the xbox , a friend of mine got it last week i think , and he told be that the graphics are extra smooth , he said something similar at those in the film FINAL FANTASY ,

so i don't know they are quite expensive right now , so I think I would stick with my PC for now with my 3dfx Voodoo 5 64 mb , witch isn't that bad .

*Snicker*
I can deal with 4/5 of the graphics that xbox has, to have a game cube.
Microsoft may make good hardware, but that's not what I care about. Nintendo knows what they're doing. I think the xbox is going to fail, actually. It's designed for the mature gamer, so they put out all that crazy violent shit like Max Payne.. but who needs to drop another500 bucks when they have a perfectly good PC?
That's why you need a GameCube. That thing is going to be the king of 4xMulitplayer. Smash Brothers? Ohoho baby! Mario Kart?..well..bad example. plus Resident Evil, Mario Sunshine, Zelda..what am I missing?
Nintendo rulez, Microsoft droolz.

Yeah personally I would choose GC. Nintendo has awesome developers and WILL make many, many great games. Im going to try and not buy one for as long as possible, but Ill prolly cave eventually. I honestly wouldnt be surprised if Halo is one of the only good games on Xbox, but who knows, Microsoft could buck the American video game system curse. Or they could choke to death because they made a gigantic VCR sized cheap computer. I think Nintendos business model is awesome. I honestly dont get the set top box thing. I have a ps2 b/c of GT3 and love it, but i dont know when people decided you need a HD and the ability to rip MP3s onto a system. It just makes it expensive, and takes emphasis off the GAMES. This is where nintendo knows what they are doing. GC is cheap, loads quickly, has beautiful graphics, and a controller that isnt a piece of shit...I also dont think everone should start ignoring the ps2, its harder to program for, but that doesnt mean much, except that the games will just look better and better as time goes on. Plus Sony has been developing a Halo killer for awhile now, so Microsoft may not even have that on the ps2...peace/

waiting for my copy of GTA3 to arrive, i caved, but its all for the better...mmm running from the cops......

not only that, they apparently ARE crap too, people are talking about how you have to order the Japanese controllers just to have something decent.

and dont forget: Perfect Dark 2(or whatever it will be called) Rare always drops the bombs...

Actually I want them both,

Posted by sothis on Nov-19-2001 16:24:

xbox: i already have a computer, so buying one of these is pointless (since its basically computer style/graphical games). tho if ms is offering xbox internships for once this summer, im gonna see about getting one on that team and maybe ill get a free one. id take one then

gamecube: 3d mario. whoop de doo.

all i play is console rpgs anyways, so im gonna vote for none of the above, and stick with my psx2. mmm final fantasy 10.

GC = looks like a game console made for kids ...
X-Box = i don't trust microsoft ...

[Bah.. I hate it when the server gets all laggy. ]

You seem like a smart fella. Maybe you should actually take a look at what each system offers, before you make rash judgements.
Both xbox and gamecube are better than the PS2, it's a fact. Granted, while playstation can use old psx games, dvds, rip mp3s..the cpu is rather difficult to program, giving the deveolpers a harder time to make good games (this is what happened to the N64..) This might hinder its competition in the long run. Nintendo has nipped that problem in the bud, creating a very programmer-friendly console, at the same time offering crazy smooth graphics, nil loading time, plus options for further hard-ware add-ons. xbox..heh..while it is the most advanced system, it's gonna fail, I think. Even if it is only because no one needs TWO computers in their house. The games for xbox are going to be sick, though, I'll give it that. But I can already play those on my computer. *shrug* Whatever. We'll see, I suppose. The idea that gamecube is for children only is silly.
Metroid Prime, Perfect Dark Zero, Resident Evil, Tony Hawk 3, Rogue Squadron, Soul Calibre 2, Batman Vengeance, Bomberman (Yeah, baby!), Starfox, Legend of Zelda, Turok, a slew of RPGs to be announced, Smash Brothers Melee, Bloody Roar Extreme, Phantasy Star, Sonic the Hedgehog.. my god.. it just keeps coming. Good luck Sony/MS yousa going down.

my .02 dollars.

but again, it all depends on what games you like playing.

for someone like myself who only likes rpgs, it would be stupid to buy a gamecube. and xbox might have some, but they are all gonna be computer-like. the psx2 is the only console which the games i like to play.

true true, but i think he means specs wise, and that is also true.

sort of true but not entirely. the n64s problem was its cartridges, and the fact IT was geared more to kids. it was somewhat difficult to program for, but not as bad as saturn or anything. it just didnt push more polys than psx, but had more effects. and the ps2s CPU is pretty straight forward actually, its slower than the 733mHz pentium in the xbox, but only in numeric designation, its a RISC chip meaning its not that much slower than the GC or xbox...BUT it has less bandwidth for transferring textures and relies heavily on dual vectoring units, which make it a bastard to program for. and i bet they still havent figured out how to use both of them fully yet, so things are only looking better from here...plus you know there will be great games for SONY and nintendo, so you really cant go wrong in choosing any of them. i also dont think that GC is a kids system, like n64 -sort of- was. just cause its cute and japanese on the outside doesnt mean the software will be also, cause i bet Rare will release a Conkers BFD2 and that def wont be kiddie! late/

damn video games, how can i know this much about this stuff and get Ds on my Swedish tests. i wish learning a language was as easy as vegging out in front of the TV...

I like RPGs alot too, but PC RPGs tend to be midevil like. Console based RPGs on the other hand are more into fantasy and technology. I like console RPGs alot more...Squaresoft forever! I can't wait for FFX, I'm dying to play a good RPG!
