New Sony Network Walkmans available for pre-order

The NW-E507 is coming out soon which is 1GB + FM tuner but at $279 that is a major ripoff - it's the same style as the NWE40x players.

I ordered a NWE107S - hopefully it's good - if not - i'll return it.

God knows if I had *any* use for 'em Whatsoever, I'd order some.. I love my Sony.

Yikes that is rather steep.

Why anybody would buy one of those over an iPod is beyond me.

This is the new Sony gizmo - direct competitor to the iPod. I was reading a nice little coverage in the British GQ about iPod and it's competitors. Basically they all said that th iPod is still king but this little thing was high up there...

also actually one of the first Sony players that actually uses the MP3 format rather than transfer the MP3s into an annoying Sony format which is nice!

Ordered my NW-E99 last week through the american website

Far superior to an Ipod mini IMO

It was $217 US, shipping and tax included

why anybody would buy an ipod is beyond me! there are better alternatives on the market, but not sony!

iPod is by far the gadget to have Nothing compares in terms of design and style factor

Well you can't dispute that in terms of DESIGN and STYLE iPod is king...nothing even comes close. The guy that designed it won so many awards for it...

All the other MP3 players look horrible, they were designed by techeads and look really geeky. Apple actually uses industrial designers for their products. In fact all Apple products in terms of design are far superior to any of the others. Well Sony actually does OK job in design but I'll still take Apple design over Sony's any day

Yea, i'm willing to agree that the IPOD's "style" is better than that of the sony version. But the design/engineering of Sony's products is much better (longer battery life - my model gets 70 hours on one AAA battery- and better reliability)

Okay that's fair battery life is not the best on the iPod. Even though, they are increasing it with the new versions.

and thats exactly why i hate them. When i buy a piece of technology the style factor is definatly last on my list of things im looking for. for somebody who just wants to listen to music, fine an ipod is great, but if you wanna do anything more, booooo to apple.

Heh i forgot to mention that the NW-E99 is nearly half the size of the ipod shuffle (it's main competitor)

i took a look at them at the sony store. i'll probably pick up a 1gb 407/507 series. i compared the NWE-99 to my friend's creative and the sound was indistinguishable...and i just don't like the poker chip -100 series...

why do they call it a network walkman??

That's the NWE 100 series - feature for feature I don't see a difference between their specs and the NW-E99 - plus, the NWE 100s are newer
