Cool math tricks!

Here are some neat math short-cuts that you can do in your head

When you see a math problem like this, you were probably taught to add the right-most column first. Then the middle, then the left-most. But, doing it from left to right is actually much faster!

Start with the left column. 1+2+4 is 7. Keep 700 in your mind. Then add the middle column. 740 -> 750 -> 780. Then the last column. 782 -> 785 -> 786

See how much faster and quicker that was?

Here's another one:

So, first add the left column. 8(00). Then the middle column. 180. Uh-oh, its more than 100. So add 100 to 800, and you're left with just 80. Now the last column: 989 is the final answer!



Here's one with multiplication:

Now, do the right column. 2x4=8. Now, cross multiply 4x1, and 2x2, and add the sum together. which is 8. Now multiply The left column, 2x1. Which is 2. The answer is 288. Pretty cool huh?

then it's just 1 + 2 inbetween 1 and 2. so 12x11 is 132 cuz 1 + 2 =3 and you just put the "3" inbetween the 1 and 2. 13x11 = 143, etc. I saw it on an infomercial once. gaah. i hate math.

take 3x^2 (this means 3x to the power of 2)

if u differentiate this u get:

take 4x^3

u get 12x^2

integration is just the reverse.

there - u know calculus!

I've taken calculus long time ago but I'm almost certain there's more to calculus than just those two things.

Calculus is easy if you spend lots of time actually trying to figure it out.

I havent taken or done math in 7 years and im supposed to be figuring out the earths circumfrence by saying "there is a star at zenith in portland. Seattle sees same star but it is 2 degrees below. The distance between the two is 140 miles. How round is the earth?"

it took me like 30 minutes just to figure out the triangle. Now I cant remember wtf a sine or cosine is Im like OK SOH CAH TOA...WTF does that mean.

and im stuck.

Soh Cah Toa is when you are trying to find the sine, cosine, and tangents for an angle opposite of the right triangle. H is the hypotnuse, O is the side opposite of the angle, and A is the side adjacent to the angle.

Sine= o/h
cos= a/h
tan= o/a

My rundown...

oh I guess I dont need any of those really. would saying that 2 degrees is is 1 180th of a circle work and then times 140 by 180 do anything...lemme see

edit oh lol 25,200 yeah thats close enough fuck that was easy. I was thinking way to hard.

I loved math as a kid, these days I'm not so, but I don't hate it. Have gotten some 100% on a few math exams..

Calc is easy for me, it was the other math levels that sucked. It was just "ok do this, now do this, etc..." With calc, everything ties together and actually makes sense.

Calc is based on Differentiation and Integration. The fundamental theorem of calculus involves taking the derivative of an integral, nothing more. Sure, their uses imply far more complex things, but calc is built off of those two principles.

we're doing quadratic equations in algebra 2 now. they suck but they're do'able.

You left out the definition of the limit and the definition of the derivative, and skipped to the shortcut though. Someone new to calc is gonna look at that and go "ok, but how (and why) did you get there?"
