vocals in trance
after sidetracking the dt8 thread, thought i would post this up. imo vocals in trance hardly ever work, most of the time the singer sounds like some dj sammy pop-idol reject ala milk. inc. etc. etc. etc.. pana seems to think that it is only darren tate who doesnt 'nail vocals'. i disagree, i think nearly all vocal trance songs are the pits.. hence why they end up on josh van aalst's playlists.
discuss.
dave, i disagree with you entirely..
Oceanlab (a perfect example of vocals nailed in trance)
Cass & Slide - Perception (Vocal Mix)
Motorcycle - As The Rush Comes (A damn hot track)
there are plenty more where vocals work during a set or during a track but other people have to post too..
its all to do with there placement..
as a very wise dj once told me.. "its a great place to drop it in at #3"
thank you wise one!!
soups.. vocals must be so great that you list me a song from 2 years ago, a song from 6 years ago, and a song from last year
I think vocals can be awesome but there should only be one or two in a set imo.
It's all about contrast, build with something minimal, then drop a vocal, come out with something minimal.
I think more vocals are bad then good but i love the really good ones.
You didn't like closer now dave?
thats probably one of the only ones as of late that i've actually enjoyed.. like everyones pulling off to "behind silence" with yahel, and i think its one of his shittest songs ever
i listed 3 that were at the top of the head.
note -
Oceanlab have made multiple songs.
Clear Blue Water
Sky Falls Down
Satellite
etc..
the new motorcycle is awesome as well as as the rush comes..
D:Fuse feat. Jes Brieden - Living The Dream (Matthew Dekay Remix)
Max Graham feat. Jess Jacobs - I know you're gone.
i mean buddy.. if u want to crank out the can of whoopass.. then i'll bring it on bitch..

I think the problem is not always the tracks, it's that dj's play one vocal after another.
Eg steve hellstrip at xsive... need to feel loved was cool but when he mixed it into home he cleared the dance floor, the cheese-o-meter went thru the roof
!
*stops pulling off to behind silence*
Vocals can either make the track or fuck it up totally...
I think vocal in Behind Silence definitly makes it, otherwise the track wouldnt be as good.
wasnt some bigname planning on making an all vocal promo cd??

Steve Helstrip???

I love vocals you cant understand, or semi-understand
eg: Holden & Thompson - Nothing (93 Returning Mix) <----
Salt Tank - Eugina (Michael Woods Remix) <-----
Delirium - Innocente (Tiestos Mix) <-----
and some others i can't think of
vocals suck most of the time, make the song cheesy shit.
only a few are done well like the ones rez mentioned.
couldnt agree more dave. imo most vocals sound *really* cheesy and can ruin an otherwise cool song. i only own 2-3 songs i like coz of the vocals, the rest of them i tolerate coz the music is good despite the cheese. too many chicks wailing about lame love topics imo. its a shame, id like to like more vocal tracks.
and i fvcking HATE it when the vocals are placed over the peak of any trance song. i like the peaks for their synth melodies and energy, and placing cheesy love-ridden shite over the top of an otherwise top melody is very disappointing.
that said, i *love* dj danjo & rob styles\' mix of \"come around again\" -vocals done really well i think
the vocal mix of corduroy -deeper isnt too bad either. sand in my shoes (whichever mix batemanscott has in his latest promo mix- thanks scotty!) i like as well. but thats pretty much it!
i think producers need to look for inspiration other than \"oh this is pretty, lets have some chick sing about the sunshine here\". meh. as long as it sounds good she can be singing about how she hated her first time taking it in the arse. but am over the love stuff.
and a BIG fvcking NO! to male vocals (if sung). ewwwwww!
Best example of vocals ruining a track has to be: 4 Strings - Into The Night
Ruined an awesome melody
^^ exactly.. please rather than posting songs that rock people, lets see some examples of vocals that have destroyed some beautiful melodies. i bet the list will be far bigger than the list of good ones.
"far from in love" is a start. someone put that dog down. its husky voice has killed me enough.

^^ now if you you took that as a percentage of total vocal tracks produced, definitely a case of quantity over quality.
