The Crystal Method & Evil Nine// April 26 // Nashville

Ultimo & Disco presnts...

The Crystal Method
"Community Service II" Tour

A dance based electronic duo with a definite rock band feel, the comparison would seem appropriate, although it tends to erase what makes the group distinct: A solid base in American hip-hop, rock, soul, and pop. Formed in 1993 Ken Jordon and Scott Kirkland, Crystal Method is the most recent stop in a string of projects that lead them from their native Las Vegas (and some unforgettable four-track stabs at vocal house music), to early 90s L.A. dance scene. Drawn in by its youthful idealism, Jordon and Kirkland became absorbed by LA.s underground club culture and began knocking out tracks inspired by their experiences.

The digital duo revitalized the scene with the 1995 hit Keep Hope Alive. Since then, Ken Jordon and Scott Kirkland have cranked out big beats birthed in the Bob Shelter (their garage) on albums such as Vegas, Tweekend, Community Service and last years Legion of Boom. Unlike many of their predecessors, the Crystal Methods signature sick thumps and grinds have filtered out of clubs. On to television commercials. Because their preferred creative method is music by MAC, the DJs dutifully drag out their Powerbooks live. But the dance party head trips that ensure are anything but dorky.

with special guest...

Evil Nine (Marine Parade) UK

Theyre not evil and theres only two of them, but other than not living up to their randomly chosen yet aesthetically pleasing name Tom Beaufoy and Pat Pardy in no way disappoint. Thats if you are in to a distinctly individual sound that defies categorization as straightforward breaks and has delivered both cerebral stimulation and dance floor satisfaction with every release so far.

Tom and Pat first combined skills in 1998 and were quickly identified as a quality DJ/Producer duo by Adam Freeland who signed them to his Marine Parade label. Since then each of their releases has in turn distinguished Evil Nine as innovators who refuse to blend into the scene. For them the music has to go beyond being merely fat. Deriving their musical flavor from multiple influences hip-hop, punk, deep house, garage rock, techno and krautrock they create an original minimalism packed with emotive ability.
