Using different Decks

I have been wondering for some time now, at home i am using 1 old sansui turntable and a computer as 2 cd players, now i have nearly managed to perfect beatmatching but the thing is would i be easily able to adjust to cdj800/1000s and tech1200s if i where to go and dj out? The diference with the sansui turntable iv got to regular turntables is that the pitch control is a knob that has nomarker of where it is and the torque is pretty low, its direct drive though. I use dssdj on the computer

I have the same of question, so i'll ask here.

I plan to buy CDJ-800's, and since these are "vinyl-cd players"... if I came across "regular" cd-player, would I be able to figure it out easily? or will I need to learn to use them first?

Is it only a matter of using the jog-wheel and pitch adj. to beatmatch? The jog-wheel basically just speeds up, and slows down the track right? whereas with "vinyl cd player" u can stop the track totally by just touching the jog-wheel-thing.

If someone could please post some info on the difference between "regular" cd players and "vinyl" cd players, i'd appreciate it a lot.

Hummm... I dont play out myself but if you intend to then it is always good to get some real practice which should more than likely be with two tech 12's... I mean even getting the feeling of using something new so you know how it feels to use a different setup cannot be encouraged enough.

I mean I have a pair of stanton st.150's to my mates discust (because you cant get anything other than technics!) but he has a pair of tech 12's and my other mate has vestax... so here iam and have practiced and used most of the major brands so if i ever do play out i will adjust to the new feel whatever deck they have with no problems.

To answer your question m2j the cdj800 has the ability to switch between vinyl and cd mode (or atleast im pretty sure it does) But to go from cd mode to using vinyl mode i dont think you could just instantly be %100 with it unless you have used vinyl before.

ok, what like 10 seconds to figure it out?

touch sensitive jog wheel, makes life very easy.

easiest high end players to adjust to.

I started off with a JVC Direct Drive, and, a Sherwood Direct Drive.

The difference between those turntables (yours included) and,
a Technics 1200, is the preciseness of the Pitch control.

When you adjust the Pitch Control on your Sansui, it will respond
more over like 1 - 1 1/2 - 2

The Technics is more over like 1 - 1 1/8 - 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 - 2

What you'll find is needing to move the pitch slider
further to get the response you are accustomed to.
(When you used the Sansui).

The good thing about mixing on Home Turntables, is building
a lot of patience, and, mixing very lightly.

Lightly, as in not putting any pressure on the platter.

The first thing thats going to throw you off is the torque.
Seeing that your used to mixing on a weak motor, an the
Technics is much stronger, you may find yourself having
difficulty controling the vinyl when it is in motion.

Tapping the top of the record to off set the speed,
will not work on the Technics, as it did on the Sansui.

I would suggest borrowing someones 1200's to get an
idea, how to manage the turntable.

I had my 1200's for 4 years, and, I can still mix better
on the JVC, and, Sherwood than the Technics.

Its like learning how to mix all over again.

I use vinyl, so I'm not really worried about the "vinyl-mode" of the CDJ-800.

I'm just interested in knowing how the "cd-mode" differs from the "vinyl-mode." Such as, how the jog-wheel works in cd-mode as apposed to the vinyl-mode.

And also wether other cdj's by other companies work in the same way, both in terms of vinyl-mode and cd-mode.
