Where to go for good trance in Alberta?...

Hi,

Have to admit, I'm getting a little frustrated with the local scene here in Edmonton. I'm open to suggestions on this one.

Clubs I could name as being decent would be Therapy, Ever After and possibly a couple of others. Only problem with Therapy is the age of the kids earlier on (no offense, just don't like running into 14 year old girls when I go out, I'm in college).

For a "regular" bar, The Joint's DJ was pretty decent until recently, but whoever was there this Saturday was R&B happy (ugh), and the DJ at the end of the night around 2:30 completely blew chunks. Sorry if that hurts.

Please, please, give me some tips on this one. =P

Therapy, Yeah!!
I love that place! My friends and I hit it up, when we took a short trip to Edmonton during the summer.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about, in terms of clubs (especially after hours), Edmonton seems way more bumpin' than Vancouver. Plus you guys always seem to get more DJ's stopping by there than we do.

Come to Vancouver, and then complain about the lack of a solid scene.

calgary has some really good nights
fridays at escape, wednesdays at pandemonium, then there's the warehouse for afterhours

Wow, I have to say that I'm stunned. Yes, Therapy is pretty decent, but I'm really suprised to learn that you think the trance club scene in Edmonton is better than Vancouver. I would have thought that yours would be much better, considering the size of Vancouver.

I suppose that you're on the wrong end of Canada for the European DJ's though...

Therapy is seriously lacking musical content lately, too much house/breaks/hardhosue and very little other styles. To be honest there is very little trance being played here, at least not at afterhours / clubs.

If you don't want to deal with little kids being at places their parents probably have no idea about I suggest you steer clear from the whole afterhours scene and look at "regular" clubs. Lush used to be really good on Saturdays with Dave Stone and Derkin playing a wide variety of styles (mainly trance and progressive), but the night got shut down in favour of house, unfortunately. They still play there occasionally though (Dec. 08 is their next night). If you can stand hardhouse / NRG, I can only recommend Majestik (10123 112St.) Friday - Sunday (thursdays is house night). I play an occasional trance set there on Sunday nights as well. New City Suburbs is all right if you're into progressive house - Ariel & Roel play there on Fridays.

Vancouver, just isn't a place for some good hardcore dancing.
Sure, there are a few good spots, but Edmonton just rocks for its afterhours scene!
Plus for some reason, Vancouver is turning into a big house city. It seems like every other venue is playing house (which I don't mind listening to, but for dancing there's much left to be desired).
