giving up cigs
trying to give up cigs, been over a day since my last
i swear you can't understand the grip a chemical addiction can have over you until you experience it first hand
anyways, anyone got any tips for making this permanent?
got a headache and i'm jittery as fuck
dont smoke cigs :-/
not the best advice I know...but I'm in the same boat.
but it gets easier if you simply stick it out.
Once you're over the three-day hump, you should be okay. Just keep yourself busy, and don't let your mind wander back to the relaxing bliss smokes provide you
I tried quitting, four days without a smoke, then finals rolled around and I said screw it :P
Good luck though
kokanee
heh yeah thats the problem, i chose like the worst time to quit
already had 1 exam today, then walka cross campus, another class, walk across campus, another exam
home for a few hours, then 6 hours of work

A girl friend and I came up with the idea that everytime we feel like a cig...we make tea and drink that instead. Its working pretty good since neither of us has had a cig in almost two weeks.
I smoke during exam periods. Other than that i keep myself busy and keep spending money on other stuff so i cant possible afford ciggies.
Anyways, i'm not addicted to it, just helps me through stressful times.
all i know is once you get over the first week, the smell and taste of cigs is disgusting. lols the way i'm quitting is i'm having my tonsils taken out so it looks like i'll be quitting.
one of my new years resolutions was to quit smoking. it lasted probably 2 weeks, when then i decided i'd just smoke on weekends or when i'm out. so now i do it in moderation. sometimes i'll go a whole week without smoking. sometimes i'll smoke a pack in one night (rare, but it happens). but i've definitely cut down a huge amount (i used to smoke almost a half pack every day). maybe just try cutting down gradually?
then again, according to many smokers i've spoken to, doing it in moderation doesn't work for everyone.
good luck man.
Thanks asshole.... I quit in December and this thread is making me jones!
The best advise is no matter what don't give in. Seriously, one puff of a smoke is enough to make your body remember it's addiction. After three days the worst is over, in three weeks you'll have a slight spell of craving but no big problem... in three months all the nicotine stored in your fat cells will release and you'll crave again for a few days after that.
FYI, I found exercise helps with the cravings.

hehe judging by our sigs (lol sigs) moral hazard and i are like the least unlikely people to talk about stopping smoking cigs of all things
i should quit.
but i dont wanna.
Exactly. I should quit and I went a week without smokes, because I was with my nieces, nephew and my sister and didn't wanna be a bad influence, but I don't seem to want to stop. It's such a disgusting habit, but it feels so good. I need to cut it out, at some point. At least it's been over five days since I've smoked weed. That's a start.

god damn
driving home from classes...its 420
so many fucking people smoking
36 hours
The way I stopped drinking alcohol was to
AHAHHAHAHAHAHHAhA ill never stop it makes me feel sooooo damn goood
lol jk
seriously ive been dry for a bit now and its because Im keeping active, busy with school, just generally busy. Its like how people eat themselves to death, especially housewives, cuz they got shit else to do. Instead of NOT smoking, GO running. You need to fill the void or something just as bad if not worse will creep in. An idle mind is the Devils Garden my friend!
Nicotine withdrawal lasts about two weeks, the most difficult time is within the first few days, anyway heres something that works to make it easier to quit during this time, changing your diet reduces the severity of the withdrawal to quite a degree.
Diet: For the two week withdrawal period, eat a vegetarian diet. This means no fish, chicken, beef or pork. This causes the pH between your body and the nicotine to be compatible. This reduces the roller coaster effect of withdrawal and craveings. If you eat meat after a week or so into this diet (say for a day or so) your craveings will increase and your nicotine withdrawal will be harder. If you stick to the two week diet the nicotine will detoxify in a smoother manner from your body. You can eat vegetables, pasta, grains, bread, fruit, eggs and dairy. Also try not to use processed or refined sugar, alcohol and caffeine for the two weeks, but you can artifical sweeteners and decaffinated coffee.
Also use breathing exercises, take deep breaths through your nose and exhale through pursed lips and force the air out. This builds up pressure in your lungs causeing more oxygen to go to your brain and this helps with craveings, do this a few times in a row, dont over do it obviously. This technique also reduces stress one of the main reasons people smoke....exam pressure etc
Anyway best of luck...the diet suggestion definatly works to level out the pH in your body and makes it easier.........
after like 2 or 3 days, all that gitters and shit clears up, and you dont really feel like smoking a cigarette, but you have weird mood swings, at least i did. like i would get hyper and drive really fast on the freeway and then id be like down and shit. aftger like 2 weeks i seemed to miss the physical part of smoking, just putting my hand up to my mouth to smoke.

take a glass, put some fag ends in, fill with water & try to drink it all. it should repulse you so much you'll never want another one. Personally i've never smoked a single one in my life, saw a family member with a cancer scare at age 12 and it kinda put me straight off ever wanting to
