All those runners out there...
well, the season is getting better and i've been running more and more the past few weeks. I usually run about 2.5-3.5 mi a day all on pavement & cement.
i'm curious what you guys run in. i've read up on a lot of different shoes and now i want to make a decision as i think i need a new pair.
i asked my mom, who runs marathons, what her male counterparts run in. they are all 50+ years old and recomended some new balance line to me. i've run in new balance before, but i'm just wondering if they have been running in them for so long they dont know any others.

actually, thats what i'm running in now is Saucony. any model you'd recommend?(link if you could)
I actually really liked my adidas climacools (both models) back when I used to do around 2-3 miles a day (now i can barely get three a week cuz o school). But anything from adidas i really like. Im looking into their new adidas-1's for the summer. they look cool.
i use my way-old Adidas Gazelle. i've had them for about 6 years. they were extremely well preserved until a year ago, when i started using them solely for running. they're still in extremely good shape, though. just comfy enough, although probably not designed for running, but i got used to them. yep.
h3ll yeh, i'd recommend New Balance any day. i used to go with nike but i won't touch anything but NB now. I run year round too (on the treads in winter, but it's toronto after all!) and NB's always done me well.
i really didn't want this thread to turn into a flame war... anyways
i think i've decided on the Assic Gel-Kayano XI's...
my mom had run in these for years and a mens line just came out...
there are a few new asic's in mens that i'm looking into, including the GT-2100 and Gel Evolution
Asics are great.
well Josh, I've been jogging for 3 yrs straight, I assume I know what shoes to buy
. Seriously each model is built for a different style of foot I think. I bought Saucony because I needed that heel support, plus I have flat feet. Check their website actually. I say don't buy Nike's, they end up just trying to look cool and giving your feet no support. Try ASICS, New Balance, Saucony, the real jogging shoes that take a real beating. But my grandfather has been buying the same type of shoes for 48 yrs, ADIDAS, heck he's nearly 78, runs 32 miles a week, so diff strokes for diff folks i guess
i've always found more comfort in Nike & Adidas for running, but Reebok for football boots

saucony jazzes are the only way to roll. I hike in them too. Sturdy damn shoes and comfortable.
Dunno about the new "classic" AC ones, but theyd probably do fairly well. Probably wouldnt hold up as long, however.
Your mothers friends are right. I frequently do 10k, 20k runs and I'm working up to Marathon within the next year hopefully. I run in:
New Balance.. I just have good socks, good shoes
Yes buy running socks.. although they're around 14-20 a pair they can make a huge difference. As far as clothing I use underarmour running wear.
Eat before run;
day before, lots of pasta and lots of water, with a dose of vitamens
day of lots of gatorade, and a boul of fruit
day after, steak and potatoes
tada
Oh.. I've been running for just over four years.. three of them in the Army..
Most of my commanders have done Marathons and the likes.. their suggestions to me:
New Balance
what new balance's do you run in? when they answered my mom they said anything around 2k-8k i could go w/ new balance 700's & up. i was looking at the 1050's and they are moderatly priced.
also, so many shoe companies push their sole inserts on you. i'm guessing its their mark up product, but i've been running with stock insoles my whole life. any experience w/ those?
btw, orbax. thats what i've been running in. they are decent, but are more for flat foot runners and the shoe really doesn't morph to the foot the way the higher end shoes do. not to sound picky, but i am worried about my lower back & knees when it comes to foot impact
hehe yeah. I just dont have the cash to drop 70+ every 3 months. During my heavy months I typically run around 10miles a day and these last for half a year of that. All the runners tell you to buy new shoes every few months and what not too...
works for me
I have some new balance trail runners but they just weigh too much for a 12 mile mountain run hehe. 1 ounce = a pound every 8 steps. Fug all that!
So yeah, guess Im too old for all this new shoe business
this would have made for an interesting Napoleon Dynamite moment:
Your mother runs marathons.

Adidas do it for me.. I have been running since I was fifteen and they still have yet to fail me. But I run on trails rather then sidewalks and whatnot. That has a lot to do with it.
