Looks pretty cool. Downloading the demo version to take a look.

Posted by acell on Apr-22-2005 04:40:

forgive my ignorance.. (can't find much info on the site)

but is this like a reason killer? Looks similar to reason.. anyone care to enlighten me?

Posted by nec on Apr-22-2005 12:51:

Woa, looks nice.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-22-2005 16:09:

OK guys, I'll be honest with you. I didn't even care for it because I thought it was some wannabe program. But after seeing the trailer, I FELL IN LOVE...it's so easy in the eyes...looks very fresh and modern. Now, either Propellerheads copied the trailer style or it was them from Propellerheads...but I liked Propellerheads trailer better; even the track. Anyway, I would venture to say it's a Reason killer...even though Reason is not in the same league because it's a closed environment...this one is like Cubase and the rest. I don't know...I liked it a lot. I have SX 3 but wouldn't mind nibbling on P5.

Posted by Project 7 on Apr-22-2005 16:24:

fuckin awesome been waiting for this!

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-23-2005 00:54:

It's nice to see some of you diehard REASONERS actually being open to something new....I've been preaching P5 v2 since November, and now that there's a demo and a video I'm seeing a ton of action on the P5 forums.
Incredible. This is gonna MAKE it for CAKE! They are practically GIVING IT AWAY. If you bought P5 and never ever used it...go brush off the serial number and order this version today for only $79.

...how much was Reason again!??

Posted by aquila on Apr-23-2005 01:15:

Great..but that website or cakewalk.com doesn't give me any information on how to buy the FULL version and it's price. All I can see is upgrade options.

Posted by paulc_dj on Apr-23-2005 01:25:

Fair play that is an awesome bit of kit. I'm gonna get me that!

Posted by sharvax on Apr-23-2005 03:43:

Looks pretty sweet. But I was planning to buy Ableton Live for a cheaper price.. is it worth paying about US$100 more for Project 5?

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-23-2005 04:06:

what?

wow... the DIMENSION softsynth alone is worth at least $200. Its a sampler that thinks it's a synth. There are four "elements" that are like "waveforms" only you load .wav's up instead. Then you have a full range of graphically manoeverable envelopes and oscilators... extremely powerful. Made by Rene (formerly rgc:audio now part of Cakewalk)

Ableton is cheaper? I didnt know that actually.

If you dont have a Cakewalk product, they've made it easy to get it...

Run DONT WALK to the nearest Guitar Center and snap up Project5 v.1 for $99 - 129 USD ... then you get the upgrade for free!
I think the free offer may be over, but in any case it's $79 if you give them the P5 v.1 serial. So under $200 worst case. My email from Cakewalk suggested a retail price of $429 if you dont have a CAKEWALK product.

I don't think you can do as much with Live as with P5...plus P5 interface looks so sweet and easy to use. I hate the Reason interface because it's toyish and "plastic", the FL interface feels too closed and gives me electronic claustrophobia, haha, and Cubase looks too bland and open. But I've been using Cubase for almost 2 years now so I'm used to it. I try using Reason and end up shutting it down, unless I Rewire it and still, why use the Reason synths when I have an arsenal of powerful VSTis? Reason is dead for me...I honestly have no use for it whatsoever. I want Project5 so bad...it looks so modern and organized. I'll probably sell Reason 2.5...it's not registered so whoever buys it, has the option of upgrading to 3.0 for only $129.

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-23-2005 17:30:

attaboy!

But really, I know a lot of guys hated the first version of P5. Now's the time to put aside your views and try the demo for this new P5. Its actually NOTHING like the old version.
I think they should have changed the name, except that Cake didnt want to be viewed as having abandoned any of their software. There are at least 4 Cakewalk staff on hand at the P5 forums answering tons of questions from the throng of LIVE 4 and REASON users who are flooding the boards!!
The nice thing is that I am mostly joking about the app being a REASON killer. Its meant to play nicely with both LIVE 4 and REASON as a REWIRE host or slave! It just makes you even MORE productive now.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-23-2005 17:55:

That's one thing I noticed...that it said you could Rewire it, so as a company, it was a humbling thing to do and it said a lot...I like their attitude. Anyway, I downloaded the demo at work and I was impressed...it downloaded 1.25MB per second from the Cakewalk FTP server. I was blown...the most I've downloaded at work is 365KB per second. I couldn't install it in the PC since it's an Army computer. I'm gonna download the demo right nizzow!

Posted by MegaMan on Apr-24-2005 13:54:

looks promising, good thing i can rewire it with reason 3
hmmm what else....
friendly looking interface...
dont know whether its more powerfull than cubase sx, lets hope its not
but if it is, i'll get it

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-25-2005 00:41:

More powerful than Cubase?? Hardly a fair comparison. Would you compare Reason to Cubase? No...otherwise why do you own both? Obviously you are using Reason for creation and song developing and Cubase for mixing and layout... So you should be comparing P5II to Reason or LIVE4...not Cubase or Sonar.
Cakewalk isn't trying to create a poorman's SONAR nor are they attempting to replace SONAR with this app. They work in different ways and accomplish different things.

P5 is an intuitive interface to foster creativity and make music production occur as quickly as the inspiration moves you! It also goes one step further by providing the new "GROOVE MATRIX" for LIVE performance or "on the fly" recording. I find that just launching this application gets me producing even when I don't really have anything in mind!

Thus their new logo...

MUSIC. INSPIRED.

OMG dude...sorry for the curse words but this program is the f@cking [email protected]'m getting it. F@ck Reason...you don't need it with this puppy. Anyway, wow...I'm so excited...the PSYN II churns out the lowest and most powerful bass I've ever heard from a software synth. The raw sine wave is enough for sub-bass without doing anything to it. The whole program is so intuitive...you want an audio track? Bam, right click and select that you want one. BOOM...it's there. Want a synth track? Do the same and select the synth of your choice. There's no going to menus...you use the mouse for everything and shortcut keys. Whatever you record...BAM...it's right under you in a clear way to see and alter the notes or move them if you screw them up with the quantize. Try that with anything else. Not only you see the MIDI notes get recorded, but right under you there's a HUGE window with the notes in the grid. You want to duplicate an audio or MIDI track recording? Just use the normal Windows shortcut...Control/C and then you click where you want the duplicates to land and then press control/V...BAM...they're right where YOU want them. Want to quantize and not have to worry about making all the notes the same length everytime you record? No worries...you select the option and it'll do it for you. So once you record something MIDI, just press Control/Shift/Q and it's quantized with same velocity and length that you pre-specified. Wow, man...I didn't even need no manual...you just click everything to see what it does and it's recorded in your brain. I'm definately getting this. The only gripe is that it's harder to read than the other sequencers but it's so much more intuitive...you just keep going doing your thing and it's fluid. With Reason, I hate the tiny sequencer notes and how you have to open them separate to edit them. Here you have the window staring right at you under the MIDI track. I'm going to play some more with it and I'll come back with more...

I love the dark bells preset that came with the project 5 demo.

My addition to this thread... lol. (kick ass sound though, you could make a nice trance track based off those) Who will be the first to use them?

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-25-2005 23:44:

Talking

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....

My work here is done.

LOL. Glad some of you are finally coming around. Received my copy of the product today! Its on DVD 'cause there's simply too much for a few CDs....hows that grab ya?

You'll be hearing about this app on these boards now I guarantee....
while I've always been a P5 Guru, I welcome the hoards of new converts to www.project5.com and don't forget to check the forum!
You've never seen ANYTHING like it. You don't need a manual when the forum there is THAT good! There are several of us and at least 4 dedicated CAKEWALK staff to answer questions and provide tips and tutorials for this program!

As corny as it sounds, the future of music production is NOW HERE.
Dont miss at least the demo of this!

Posted by RiCo on Apr-26-2005 01:02:

Yeah, I checked the forums...lots of cool, relaxed peeps. I saw the video of the disco in the elevator, haha, that was pure feckin' gold, hahaha.

Yeah, man, this Project5 is no joke...I sequenced a track with it already and recorded it with Cubase since it cannot export.. Very nice and fast to work. I LOVE it...I'll be getting it very soon.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-26-2005 01:27:

Here's the track i sequenced there...I love the built-in effects plugins...I used the Alias one bit-crusher type and the parametric EQ...works awesome.

Clicky!

purchased this last week
finally got round to having a play with it

and i am very very impressed

the look, the feel, the quality all excellent.

iv used many a sequencer

fl studio 5
cubase sx 3

both of course have there pros and cons

and now project 5 v2
so far i am loving it, and new update just out for it aswell.

Posted by Digital Aura on Jun-20-2005 18:50:

Drunk

Yup...it's definitely one of the leading contenders now! I think it can only be bested by Sonar and / or the big wig DAWS like Cubase and Logic and ProTools.

Posted by Dickie-T on Jun-20-2005 19:01:

i heard its a ableton live wannabe and live still beats the crap out of project 5 v2, but my source wasnt very trustworthy i must say
