Question Six Flags

I'm dying to go there, but as the awkwardness of going alone will probably outweight the thrills of the rides, I'm trying to persuade some friends in PA to meet up with me there. For that purpose I tried looking at the Six Flags website, but it's really poor on descriptions of rendez-vous points and mass transit connections, so I thought some of you might have been there, and could help me out:
1) Is it meaningful to "meet up at the entrance", or are there several of these, or is it swarmed by huge crowds of people that make it difficult to spot one another? Are there alternative rendez-vous points, which you don't have to have been to before in order to find?
2) How do you get to the park from Manhattan? The website links to http://www.njtransit.com/sf_bu_schedules.shtml as if that should explain everything, but none of the busses listed there mentions Six Flags as destination?
3) Are there other rollercoaster parks around NYC?

Hope someone can help a frustrated rollercoaster fan.

hey there,

Six Flags has only one entrance, but it is always swarmed with people. if you all have cell phones you can plan to meet at the entrance and then pick something distinctive to stand under & call each other to say that's where you are. if not, then you could meet at the entrance, but RIGHT on the edge of the sidewalk where the cars are all dropping people off... that way don't have to venture around ticket booths and stuff to find each other.

hope that helps. it's been a long time since i was last there, so i have forgotten all the distinctive things you could stand next to.

we should try to do a TA outing to six flags again... last time (in 03) we got "rained out" but man it was a fun day anyway... PPR Six Flags outing part two, anyone?

Rachel

Thank you for answering my question Rachel. I guess I'll have to rely on phones and ad hoc landmarks then. The reasons why I was hesitant to go there only armed with a cell phone (the immediate solution), are (1) that my experiences with cell phone coverage in the US tells me not to rely on them everywhere (at least for T-mobile), and (2) a couple of years ago I spent nearly an hour meeting up with friends outside the cathedral in Barcelona because it had two entrances, each equipped with queues, t-shirt sellers, parks, and every other landmark one could think of.

Ah, so that's why nobody know about the buses!

I've been rooting for an early may trip - any reason why that's a bad idea? Further, I've been trying to arrange for a working day, figuring that less people will be there - solid reasoning?

NOT WORTH A LONG WAIT.
it's kinda cool to ride in the "flying" position, but it's a short ride with a really long wait to get on and off while they're strapping in the next people... and because you're facing down while you're waiting to get off, in addition to being uncomfortable, you get to look at the vomit on the ground while you wait. ick.

heehee, sorry for thread-jacking...but dude, a TA trip to six flags would be awesome.

nothing is wrong with early may except that most people can't go then because of school.

Too fuckin' awesome!

Superman is the worst ride in the park.

The new ride - Kingda Ka - is gonna be sick

120 mph in 3.5 sec... 440 ft high... one u-turn that takes u straight up then straight back down....

Superman DEF isn't worth the long wait, as Rachel said, but is a cool ride if the park isn't full and you can jump on.

The new ride looks cool but it's really just a huge drop. The best ride is still NITRO. Nothing beats that coaster.

Medusa and Viper are also great...along with batman & robin. Batman itself sucks, imo.

most of the rides are too damn short.

i got a season pass again. i'll be going soon

it's all about the "Fast Lane" pass

my friends went yesterday to check out Kingda Ka but it's not open until mid-may. Season pass already bought - thank you come again!

oh yea and Q-Bot works for 4 people just an FYI! You can buy one per trip you go so it can work for a few people. Q-Bot is the fast lane thing
