What would you say to someone..
Who says that rock is real muzik but electronic muzik isnt.

| Uhh...... how complex can it be when you can look at a song on a computer screen and add whatever sound you want, anywhere, anytime... or... create a beat and speed it up to whatever you want. with enough time, you could add tons of shit into any song and make it sound complex... but the fact is, youre looping samples in a non-linear audio program. Which is obviously going to be easier than writing a song on a real instrument and playing it. in the end, youre still sampling, looping, and clicking buttons on a computer to make music. its so much easier than creating real music.in the end, youre still sampling, looping, and clicking. Erm, you could say that the nature of synthesising means you have an infinite number of sounds you can create which makes life more complex.
Also arranging many different samples in a computer program and making it sound good is pretty damn hard.
"Rock" musicians only have one instrument to concentrate on, plus playing backing guitar/bass/drums is pretty repetitive anyway and not that skilled (not that I can do it!).
Or just tell him to f*ck off.

tell him you like listening to what you enjoy, not listening to what you think that is more difficult to create. and that it's quite subjective to say rock is harder to create than edm.

A brat with pimpels and no skills can make a EDM tune pretty easy.. And I can write a rockballad today...
But I can't believe that it will be any good..
I actually think you need some talent to make a good track..
People like to look down on any EDM, it's because they actually know
nothing about it
yep, i know this feeling. I once had someone shocked that i listen to music that "a computer made for me"
I just laugh it off and walk away, insenuating they have no clue what they're talking about, and should probably do their homework before trying to insult my taste. Ignorance sure is rampant in human beings
oh yeah... forgot to mention that most rock is mastered *cough cough* WITH A COMPUTER before its pressed on cds
Most music is probably made or at least sequenced on computers these days anyway: they just have the additional opportunity to play it with real instruments when playing live.
Yeah he definitely has no idea what he's talking about.
He states how much he doesnt like EDM but loooves Mars Volta and I know they have an electronic edge to their sound.
heh, well obviously he has never produced rock music. If only he knew all the tricks they use with pro tools. for instance they get one sample drum kick and add that one in to every kick in the song...
but potatoes potatoes, ya like whatya like.
Although he sounds like a moron, he is right to an extent, and most likely more right than you.
Electronic music is simple. It is easy to make. It is easy to make well in comparison to other types of music.
It makes me so angry when people here compare trance producers to classical composers, they are worlds apart in talent. There is no comparison.
That said it doesnt mean electronic music is not completly talentless, and it does have some integrity. However not nearly as much as other genres.

lmao
look at mozart, bach, handel and others
they did not use guitars or electronic music and I'd say their work far outweights anything rock or EDM.
that's what we call genius
w0rd, thats when music was 100% inspiration, instead of put some notes in and hope it sounds good
see I don't argue anymore, I just flip people the bird and crank the music
and thats why you're a pimp
Well, I live with these complaining about electronic music all days at my job...
They tell me I listen to 8 hours the same music all day and when sometimes somebody listen to my music he talks to me: "Wait, is it the same sound repeating all the time???"
I tell: "This is music with begin, mid and end, not a 3 minutes commercial radio crap that when you start like the melody the music ends and my music is made for mix purposes too, you have to beatmatch, cue points, EQ, etc... ah, you are so ignorant and close-minded to listen to carefully other genres of music to learn new sounds..."
or when I'm busy to argue I just say:
"Ok, I dont care about what u listen to, go out."

There are no rules on HOW music should be made or what it should sound like.
im a big fan of Music and one thing ive noticed a few trends with alot of commercial mainstream
Anger - theres alot of "hits" which all boil down to the producer being pissy about getting dumped or cheated on etc...with the metal world ppl just hate because they can and hate music sounds "tough" therefore, listening to hate music makes you tough...
Attention - mainly from the rap/hip hop arena... these two used to be about how ghetto everyones lives were and a few we're about what someone wanted to do to someone else in bed yadda yadda...now its what ppl wanna do to eachother on the kitchen counter and how much booty, money, cars, and bling everyone has
WE KNOW YOU'RE FILTHY RICH, SHUT THE FUK UP ALREADY, WHAAAAAT, SHUT THE FUCK UP, OOKAAAAY!
with pop music everyone there is trying to see how sexy they can go without looking like a slut in the middle of a gangbang, and boy bands still look like dancing douchebags
the emo kids are still in tears about the same old shit
the alternative guys are still making their nice guy apporach to being random
and the jazz people are still groovin away... yeah
which one is better?
hah! good luck on that survey... which one is more real?
EDM artists are much like the one-man-bands you'd see at carnivals and in history pictures...you dont see zabiela going thru a decline because he had an argument with his CDJ... less drama
EDM is happy music(for the most part) and it sounds alot cooler +10
OK, so does anyone besides me think that EDM, at least the art of playing it live, can be closely compared to that of the Jazz and "Jamband" styles of music?
I'm not trying to make a huge comparison, but there are definitely some innovative DJ's/Live acts in the EDM scene who I would definitely consider improvisors... never the same show twice.
I don't know, maybe I'm skewed because my 3 musical loves are Jazz, EDM, and quote en quote "Jambands." And while I know it is "easy' to produce EDM in comparison, I think it's very hard to produce something that sounds original and not just a cheesy rip off...
I wish I could find that quote about BT being compared to Bach and Mozart... that shit cracked me up to no end (Some mainstream music mag, possibly Rolling Stone ran an aarticle on EDM producers being the new "Classical"
)
...
Cheers,
RJT
