5 boroughs was weak and the beasties have lost it -- ad rock and mca have become grumpy grandpas and mike d looks like a catcher's mitt.

paul's boutique was the shit tho; easily their best album, it had beats that were at least 10 years ahead of their time.

edit: if any of the hip hop heads are interested in learning the story of how that useless and talentless turd ray benzino destroyed what once was the best hip hop magazine, The Source, peep the links below:

--> pt.1 http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/features/id.406

--> pt.2 http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/features/id.405

--> pt.3 http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/features/id.404

the read is long but very interesting; those of us in the nyc area have known about this stuff for years but it's good to see that vile thug benzino exposed.

I wouldn't say the 5 boroughs is weak at all. The thing that makes the beasties the shit and always will is that they never revert back to old styles, they are always making a more cutting edge sound with all their records.

And the 5 boroughs i think definitly does this with more emphisis on mix master mike than before. Other records have more sampling, more instruments, jam songs, rap songs, rock songs, punk songs etc. but none of them sound like whats on the 5 boroughs, with the exception of probably some mix master mike controlled tracks off of hello nasty. But they are always pushing for a new sound and no matter how old they get, they are still some of the best artists of our time and will be listened to for decades to come.

IMO if you don't like the 5 boroughs, its should be a personal preference instead of "their weak now" because with artists like the beasties, they will never sell out or fit norms, wich is EXTREMELY rare nowadays. because of that i will always show respect.

I don't like a lot of the lyrics in the 5 boroughs, they got to goofy and didn't have any real meaning to them, but as far as the cd in general, i think its great.
