Suggestions For Live Show ?
Hey,
I'm looking to go to one of the upcoming live shows but I want other people's opinions on which one to go to.
Here are the ones I'm looking at
Thievery Corporation
Front 242
Autechre
Champion and The G-strings
Other shows are welcome too.
Thanks

sounds a lot like reggea though, unless the videos don't really represent what they play live.
Wouldn't mind something more edm.

Thievery Corporation.....no contest here
OK:
1. Death from Above 1979 - May 8 @ El Salon. I think you can still get tickets at Esoterik on St. Catherine's and it's cheap. Sonic noise destruction. You will dance your ass off.
2. Japanther, Et Sans, and Dreamcather - May 5 @ Le Local (around the 7000s on St. Urbain. Holy shit is this a fun show. Saw Japanther, Dutchess Says, and AIDS Wolf at the Electric Tractor last month and didn't stop sweating for 3 days. You can get tickets at Cheap Thrills on Metcalfe, kinda across the street from McGill.
OK, I don't know if anyone realizes this, but there is also a board for the rock/punk/indie/etc. crowd at Montrealshows.com. This is kinda getting to my point that there should be more punk/electro crossover because both groups have essentially the same philosophy but there's some unnecessary societally-contructed bullshit in the way, like punks not liking ravers because they think they are stupid and the music has no artistic value. And vise-versa with ravers saying punks are just stupid anachronisms that are living off the past, which is way worse than living in it. Well, I, personally, think it's time to drop the bullshit and work together to party are respective asses off, as one. So there.

Wait a minte... unsubstantiated refusals are for dweebs. My point is that electronic and punk culture have the following similarities: 1) progressive and anti-establishment ethos and works (dude, like lawler's "too black, too gay" and anything written by the dead kennedys), 2) unapologetic hedonism, 3) a firm foundation in youth culture, 4) attendees usually end up dancing their asses off. The only thing that's different is that punks hate ravers and ravers hate punks for, as far as I can tell, absolutely no reason at all. Why not branch out and experience all types of music? Man, everything, except for nu-metal because it's proven to be the brainchild of major softdrink manufacturers, has musical validity. Ravel's Bolero, Black Flag, and Danny Howells (which was a kickass show. Yee haw!) all come from the same epistemological and teleological roots: namely, some monkey pounding rocks to a prehistorical beat.
Wow! Dude, I'm horribly stoned right now, and what you have just said has rocked my world. That is some high class technical shit man, or maybe I'm just tripping out.
God that Ferry set is good.
Oh yeah, one more thing about crossover: the Lesbians on Ecstasy CD might be the band-aid to close the wound. It's some fierce, elektro-punk, bad-ass, lesbians-wearing-leather-so-you-had-better-dance-or-be-emasculated freak out. They play in town every now and then (even though they're local but I think they're in France. Hmmm...), I recommend going to see them. The other crossover stuff is too weird for general consumption, but if you're interested, Lightning Bolt does a really good job of maintaining the dark trance beat but on analog instruments (bass and drums with lots of pedals) and a lot noisier. Think drunk elves with flamethrowers (the CD is for sale at Cheap Thrills. I recommend any and all). The Unireverse is a local band of what must be PhD physics students that play really epic stuff using keys, reel-to-reels, and something else that I can't quite identify [just checked the website. It's a modified Moog. Hot damn!). Think trance in the deepest space with some really geeky dudes. And, of course, Stavinsky's "Firebird" for those days where you are on black acid and locked in a steel box.
websites for the aforementioned:
Lightning Bolt
The Unireverse

I don't hate most punk ppl, I have a few friends who are "Punks". I don;t hate punks for their shitty music taste.
What I hate much more is those stupid ass hip hop kids, don't get me wrong I like rap/hip hop, but only non mainstream and stuff that actaully has content. I hate anyone who listens to 50 cent and all that G-thug crap rap.
Thats one thing I repsect about most "punkers" is they don't dress like EVERYONE else. IE fat farm, echo, whatever all that shit ass clothing crap that hiphoppers where.
So yeah mainstream rap is what I hate and anyone who thinks they're a gangster cause they drive around in their "modified civics" with a sub in the back pumping out 50cent, talking about how he was shot 9 times. Who gives a #uck. So yeah I hate all those people.
Rant Over.
