Finally - a vinyl recording machine!
THIS is way cool!!
Can someone tell me why haven't I heard about this thing before? Why aren't Vestax promoting hell out of it? Is it available here in the UK? How much is it?
omfg!! This is so cool... I bet it costs a fortune though..
btw: Where could U get empty Vinyls anyway???
It's not so cool... the vinyl it cuts are ruined very easily, and the sound isn't as good as original vinyls.
Plus it costs about 8000$ - yeah, that's right!, 8K!!!, and an "empty" vinyl is about 10$.. about the same as an original.
So it'll take time 'till something that compares to a vinyl pressing machine will come.. 'till then, all we have to do is wait and keep buyin' vinyls.
apparently if you talk when the vinyl is cutting it will record it as there is supposed to be total silence when it cuts.
so its not best to record if you have a noisy little sister in the house like me.
Yeah done a bit more research now ... it was supposed to be released in October (but I ain't seen one yet?). It will cost $10,000 US or about 6,500 UK, and the blank vinyls will be available in black or white and will cost about $7 each. They are made of some new wonder plastic and are supposed to be just as durable as normal vinyl once recorded.
Imagine how cool it would be though ... no more searching for rare unobtainable vinyls that cost 100s of quid, just cut them straight from Audiogalaxy onto the vinyls ... no more having to wait for 3 months after Jules has thrashed them to shit before you can get all the cool tracks on vinyl ... you could have the record bag from hell ... man I better get writing to Santa quick

Thats old news
ive gotta mag with them from a long time ago. I think it was retailing at $12000.
You can also just go to a dubplatecutter and get a dubplate of your recording (acetate, NOT VINYL, one vinyl cutting would cost a small fortune) for about 100 guilders ($40 ?)
yeah...
this isn't that new...
i saw a vinyl cutter about half a year ago (maybe more) on HTFR...
and it DOES cost alot...

I'd take one if someone was willing to get me one for free. I'd record vinyls for all u guys whenever u wanted them, go on get me it then
Hey luke im gonna try and hook you up with my remix of tenshi at some point tonight,so ill give you a shout l8r!
Until it does become commercial, we can all stare at it in awe here.

I am.
...No really!
i'd hate to burst your bubble, but you couldn't just record an mp3 straight to vinyl and then spin it at a party/club. you could very well get sued by the label of the song. if you profit from spinning a song, you have to be clear with the label first, which is what happens when you buy vinyl in the store. if you just cut it directly to vinyl and then spin it and get paid, you could get sued for copyright infringement if someone found out...
but its still an awesome idea that everyone's thought about at one time or another.
and what if you put a white lable on it?
Arent white lables exempt from copyright laws? Like not having to ghive credit for using sources/samples of music?
If I got one, I would be doing exactly that, getting MP3z of vinyl that cant be found(like cloudwalking) and 'burning' it. I wouldnt stop buying records, just stop searching for the ones that arent being pressed anymore.
But for 10 000, I also think I should be able to find those 5-10 records that I am lookinf for.
So lets say hypothetically that I was a legitimate famous DJ, that pays my dues to the labels for all the songs I spin. I've been hunting for years for a vinyl copy of a particular song so I can include it in my sets but there simply aren't any in existence. I go and grab an MP3 version of the song, cut a copy of it with one of these vinyl machines, play it in my set and pay for doing so, i.e. I send my money off to the appropriate record label just like I do with all my other records I spin. Am I still breaking the law?
I would like nothing more than not to get back into this whole copyright infringement bollox, but I feel I have to.
If you're spinning at your average club or party as a small time DJ - no-one gives a fuck what you spin. If someone questions you, just tell them that you were given the track, but in fairness, I've never heard of anyone being so much as questioned. Clubs are rarely checked for copyright as the DJs bring their own records, and if it's unlabeled, it may aswell be any track you want.
If you're a big DJ spinning onto albums and in big clubs, you're pretty much going to get given every vinyl you'll ever need, so no probs there then
Hope that clears up any worries you may have.
Now bring on that fucking vinyl recorder cos I want to burn all of my illegal records!!
Yeah Diablo, I know Tiesto and the boys don't pay for the actual physical purchase of their vinyls, but my question was whether they still have to submit their track lists to APRA and pay for the 'public broadcast' rights or whatever they call them?

DJs dont submit jack. If they get given a record, it's theirs, the copyright was transferred when they were given it.
If the track is a rare bootleg, they just call it 'unknown' until they can justify its use, and even then, they don't really care.
When was the last time you heard of a DJ being done for copyright fraud or playing illegally? Back during the 80's when all the illegal raves were going on, but still - no copyright probs then!
i wouldnt buy the recording machine... and even if i had access to one, i wouldnt use it... i like searching for those old records u cant find anymore, cuz when u find it and spend that extra 20-30 bucks for the record, youre that much happier and you enjoy even more what youre doing... so no, i wouldnt use it

dude, i've got like 2000 mp3s... all full vinyl rips... and i dont download them cuz i wanna record them onto vinyl/cds and spin them, i download them so i know what to buy... plus burning vinyl and buying is gonna come to the same price... 10$ for blank record plus a few bucks to pay someone to record it for you... i'd rather have the original... ehm, its just me i guess
m8, we'd all like the original vinyl of every record, but even u have gotta admit that you've got traxx in MP3 that you'd really like in vinyl, and u just cant get
oh yea, i dont argue that... i'm just saying i wouldnt burn anything that i can't find... i'd rather have an original than a burned copy... thats it
