I can't ****ing believe this........

my new track which I was gonna finish tonight has just been deleted by the fucking flstudio!!! I can't fucking believe this! I was gonna save the last few changes in the flp file and suddenly it popped me an error something like "could not save to the file", and it deleted my best project so far!! what a whore!!!! I still can't believe it........the project file was something like 200kb and now it's 84.5kb and when I try to open it floops says "An error occured while opening the FLP file"
damn it's so frustrating..my best project gone in a second

Posted by supersonik on Apr-25-2005 21:43:

That sux man. I dont use fl personally but I have made it a habbit to save my stuff 2 times everytime I save under different names just incase one were to get jacked up, you'll have the other one. Luckily i've never had to do it worry about one messing up though. Does fruity have the option to save automatically?

Posted by ronk on Apr-25-2005 21:52:

I don't know...but usually I save my projects twice too, just in this case I didn't coz I thought I was gonna finish this up and then I'll make a copy on a floppy.
damn I don't even know where to start...all channels were so balanced and well compressed..the volumes and stuff..I had something like 15 automation clips, had a melody with a nordlead and strings, piano, guitar..I made a rather original beat imo..fx, swooshes and stuff, the atmosphere, pads, strings in the intro..all fucking gone now....
and the thing is that I turned off the system restore a couple of days ago...

same thing happend with ABLETON only that in my case i restarted my computer by mistake...i was lucky cause all the time i save my work step by step..so each time i add something to the track i save to a new file...so i create from 1 up to 40 project....LUCKY ME

always save your songs in 'stages'

Example, if I saved a song in 13 stages, i have:

C:/program files/propellerhead/reason 2.5/my projects/song title/song title 1
C:/program files/propellerhead/reason 2.5/my projects/song title/song title 2
C:/program files/propellerhead/reason 2.5/my projects/song title/song title 3
...
C:/program files/propellerhead/reason 2.5/my projects/song title/song title 13

Just like I do when playing a first person shooter game like Unreal 2, etc...I keep pressing F5 (Quick Save) every 30 seconds or so to save my progress. Same with cubase...I keep saving it as soon as I make a change and I save it under different names and in different hardrives. Not that it matters...I never finish my stuff or work on it again, hehe. I'm sorry it happened to you, ronk. =o( That happened to me a few times when the melodies were great and it was once in a life time deal of coming up with them.

Always back your shit up man !!, its a hard lesson to learn I know, but you only learn through your mistakes.

If you ever make drastic changes to your project, backup STRAIGHT AWAY.

FL will fuck you up every time, I used to use FL a few years back....so believe me I know

Posted by ronk on Apr-25-2005 22:40:

thanks guys...it helps, somehow..
I'll upload the last mp3 file that I've saved from the project (it was a part of the intro..1:20..and it has some major hihat problems in the end of it that I fixed but didn't save as mp3) so you could know why I'm so mad...I was really gonna send it out to lots of labels..

Posted by Subtle on Apr-25-2005 22:48:

thats a real shame worst things that can happen...

best thing is to learn from it..

I always make a "Project Name" and "Project Name Backup" and ill swap saving on each of those everytime i save..

nightmare stuff this

Posted by Freak on Apr-25-2005 23:15:

I have auto save enabled.....

set for every 4 mins....

This same tragedy happenes to a producer every 10 minutes across the world.

Join the fight and stop corrupt/accidentally deleted project files!

Posted by DJ_Ikronix on Apr-26-2005 01:36:

Damn, that sample sounds pretty good, too.

...but maybe that's not what you wanted to hear.

(Might I ask what you used to make the bassline? )

Posted by Digital Aura on Apr-26-2005 01:44:

Seriously...this sounds REALLY GOOD!
So do you have at least most of the layout in your mind? Can you salvage the smaller file to get some of this goin' again!?
Man...thats harsh. SOUNDS GOO
D!

Posted by Beyer on Apr-26-2005 01:45:

Oh crap.. That has happened to me once or twice aswell! Luckily I had a backup on my external HD. First time I ever backed it up, and boy was I glad I did. That sample is damn nice man. Hopefully you'll get it even better this time around!

Posted by Rob on Apr-26-2005 02:55:

So you made that much, and didn't even save it ONCE?

And you said it got deleted? I've never heard that one before Usually files get corrupted etc, and are some what recoverable on other systems. But DELETED?!?!??!

Posted by gcrasher on Apr-26-2005 04:07:

In fruity there is "Save new version" which makes a copy and appends the next increment number to the file name. Do that at least once a session, so you'll never lose too much in case FL corrupts the file.

Posted by Timothy on Apr-26-2005 07:57:

Your sample sounds awesome. It's a shame fl deleted your project.

Posted by ronk on Apr-26-2005 09:23:

glad y'all like the sample....I'll try to do my best to reproduce the same thing.
but I think some of you didn't understand me...when I finished my changes to the project I pressed the save button and then fl said "could not save to the file, a plugin may cause the error" something like that, and then it overwritten my good project file with some shit file (I don't even know why, or what that file is) that I can't open with fl (it gives me an error every time I try to open it).

DJ_Ikronix: the bass, it was a Sytrus..lucky me rememeber how I did it

Digital Aura: thanks man, I remember most of the PATTERNS but I barely remember any of the effects on each channel...that's kinda shit.

Beyer: thanks man

Rob: I meant it got corrupted which means my good project got deleted (fl left me with some file...^^)

gcrasher: didn't know that...I'll use that option now every time.

Timothy: thanks dude!

So you can or can't open it? If you give it to someone on these forums, I'm sure they'll be able to open it with their version of FL, and salvage some sections of the track.

I don't think that will be possible, as FL overwrites the header of the file - in prep for overwriting the code within it. Then the error occurs, and there's still nothing written. So basically the file is empty, and there's nothing to extract out from it.

Posted by farris on Apr-26-2005 14:32:

Don't know exactly, but I remember reading on some other forum a while ago that someone encountered the same problem. Someone told him that FL automatically makes backups of some kind somewhere to the Documents and Settings folder. Try looking there for some folder named after FL or Image Line. As I said I don't remember well. Hope this helps.

P.S. I'll try and look up that post again.

Posted by RiCo on Apr-26-2005 16:27:

Wow, that sample sounds better than anything I've ever made in my life. =oD

Posted by a.m. on Apr-26-2005 18:01:

Go to your FL folder in program files. Open Trash Bin folder. Open Backup.flp... This is a backup of your last successful save (FL does this automatically.) If you haven't saved anything since the corruption, this should be your song.

you wont be able to opebn but send it to someone and they mgiht be able to open it and save some of it. i had this problem witha t rack i did sometime ago and sent it to my friend and he was able to salvage some of it.
