Everton/Liverpool

Couldnt see athread about this
Basically who do you think deserves to go into the champions league if everton were to finsih 4th in prem and liverpoool were to win champs league (which i dont think's gonna happen so this is all a bit of a waste of time anyway)

In my book everton deserve it based on league position and it would devalue the league if they werent allowed to play. Liverpool knew at the start of the season that even if they won the champs league they wouldnt automatically requalify for it.

Makes it interesting that its between the merseyside rivals tho

Liverpool should go because it's a historic team.

mickey mouse teams like Everton should play the UEFA Cup but not the Champions League.

CL is for the big teams (Manure Arsenal Liverpool and Chelski).

Liverpool should make it and eliminate chelsea in the champions league season 2005-2006 as will they do tomorrow !!!!!!!!!

wow you can really put your foot in it can't you?

Historic team eh? Everton was around 14 years before Liverpool was founded. Everton haven't been relegated since the mid 1950s, have won the FA Cup several times, the League several times and the European Cup Winner's Cup in 1985. They were the best team in the mid to late 1980s and would have won the European Cup easily had it not been for the bullshit five year ban on English teams.

Granted, the last ten years they haven't been very good. But if you want to talk about "historic" teams, Everton isn't lacking in that department at all. Why don't you do some research in English football pre 1995 so you won't make yourself look retarded again.

smitty why don't you just admit that Liverpool is by far superior than Everton wether it's on the pitch or historically ? okthxstfu

it doesn't matter. According to your logic, Chelsea is one of the big teams, but Everton have a far more illustrious history than they do.

Why don't YOU admit that you know fuck all about English football and should stop shooting your mouth off.

Just to prove my point even further. Everton FC founded 1878. Have not been relegated since the 1954 Season.

Nobody will ever argue Liverpool hasn't been a successful club. They certainly have. But Everton have won more championships and league titles than most other teams in the Premiereship today. So to say Everton is a mickey mouse club with no history only shows your ignorance on the subject. Most people in England know Everton are one of the original clubs and have had their fair share of glory.

In fact, here you go. From Liverpool's own website.

League Championships
Liverpool 18
Man United 15
Arsenal 13
Everton 9
Villa 7

FA Cup Wins
Man United 11
Spurs 8
Arsenal 8
Villa 7
Liverpool, Newcastle, Blackburn 6
Everton 5

So yeah...Chelsea is a big time club yet they are nowhere on that list! I'll never say Everton are the most glorious club in English football, but they're up there and they have played well enough this year to deserve a European birth. Not all clubs are as fortunate to have Russians sink hundreds of millions of pounds into them all at once.

OH MY GOD SMITTY WILL YOU STOP IT ????

you have just proven my point, Everton like it or not IS A FUCKIN' MICKEY MOUSE TEAM comparing to Liverpool, therefor no CL for them but i wouldn't mind them playing in the UEFA CUP.

don't you understand ? damn you smitty

Yes, I perfectly understand. You said Everton has no right to be in the CL because they have no history, whereas Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United and Arsenal do. Yet Everton has consistently outplayed Liverpool in the Premiereship this season and are not lacking in the history department.

So what don't YOU understand?

haha...man, you're too funny. We're equally stubborn, I'll give you that. You might not like Everton because you've never seen them do anything in the last few years and it's true, they've been under funded and have stunk. But now they're back where they belong and have as much a right to be in Europe as Liverpool do.

Even Liverpool fans would agree with me that Everton have a history deserving respect.

Posted by fastmp3 on Apr-27-2005 06:54:

i have a lot of respect for Everton, but i still believe they should play the UEFA Cup rather than the CL, it's too big for them right now, and i'm sure they'll do better in the Cup

so would barcelona but that doesnt stop them from playing with the big boys

I predict that Liverpool are going to LOSE tomorrow

then why did you say they were a mickey mouse club?

Don't you think it would get boring if the same 4 teams from each country were in CL every year? Clubs rise and fall like empires. As long as Everton keep their better players (Cahill especially), they'll continue to get better.

Besides, this is all nonsense. If Everton play their way into 4th spot, then nobody deserves it except for them. Same goes for Liverpool or Bolton if they eek it out.

but think about it ... if barca were in the UEFA cup wouldnt they be favorites to win ???

Posted by tall paul 2 on Apr-27-2005 09:23:

If Everton make 4th spot then they deserve to be in the Champions League. The chances of them making it are quite high as well as they now only need 6 out of 9 points to make it. Thats 2 wins. I know theyve got arsenal and bolton to play, which isnt easy mind, but when theyre this close and have beaten the likes of utd, then theyll probably do it.

The thing is, if Liverpool win the Champions League, then the FA have to decide who to send to the Champions League next year. And surely you would have to send the Champions no, at the expense of Everton....

But we still go Chelsea and Milan to beat yet!!

Chelsea is a mickey mouse team if you want to discuss history. I'd like to know where were the Chelsea fans when their team was shit. Everyone seems to be wearing a Fly Emirates shirt these days!

They did jack in the 70s and 80s (were relegated twice in the 80s I believe). Had one good season in the 90s (1997?) and then a Russian billionaire buys them and all the consumerist glory hunters come out of hiding.

Anyways, I think there should be a one-off knockout game between Everton and Liverpool! It would be the bloodiest derby in the history of the FA.

Its not about the big teams, its about the teams who are the best in the league, which is why i agree with UEFA that the KO round after the league stage shouldnt be seeded. It was the so called big clubs who asked for this after most of them got knocked out.

Everton should qualify over Liverpool. Nobody complained that Brazil have to qualify for the 2006 World Cup even though they are holders, and as such there was always the posibility that they may not ahve qualified to defend it

exactly about Brazil. Benitez is just saying Liverpool should make it as possible defending champions because he knows his team probably won't qualify on their own. Their is no rule in any league to send the previous year's champion if they do not qualify in the top 4, so why would the FA make a big deal of it now just because it could possibly be Liverpool?

Posted by Hanki on Apr-27-2005 21:02:

The Reds won't make it...

Posted by sector.30 on Apr-27-2005 21:13:

Everton have played consistently well this season despite losing Rooney and then Gravesen, Taha: Fuck off, you are gay.
