HappyHappy 1Gbs Internet

quote:

Hong Kong Broadband Network has launched a new ultra fast service. The symmetric 1Gbps service costs approximately 112 per month, but obliterates the kind of speeds we are used to in the UK. We are eagerly waiting for the rollout of an 8Mbps service and consider that to be fast.

While this kind of speed is unlikely to be available in the UK for some time, the possibilities for its use are immense. Large publishers could offer direct download services for their games, online gaming could be revolutionised and TV channels could be streamed at MPEG-2 DVD quality. It is hard to actually imagine speeds reaching 1Gbps in the UK, but we can dream.

I'm on a backbone, so I'm sharing between shitloads of people It's not 100 Mbps dedicated solely to my PC.

2005-04-27 15:19:46 EST: 6351 / 3739
Your download speed : 6504388 bps, or 6351 kbps.
A 793.9 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 3829365 bps, or 3739 kbps.

That's what I'm working with.

newer harddrives can link

I don't know if this is residential broadband. I know that east asia, japan and korea are leaders in every digital tecnology so I wouldn't be surprised. However most of the modems that I've seen are capped at about 36mbs. Not to mention that wires are capped too and they could share wires with cable tv too. Anyway I know that cisco for one has come out with 92 tbs router recently and sooner rather than later telco companies will start building copper and optical wires that can handle very high bandwidth

Faster is always better when it comes to internet, but not sex.

One month, when I had limited internet downloads I downloaded 180 gigs over the limit and they wanted to charge me almost 600 bucks for it.

What did you do to avoid charges?

I'm like 300mb from my limit right now!

Well I was actualy honest with them. They never sent me the e-mail informing me about the charges they were starting and the download limits although they claimed to have sent me e-mail about it. They dropped the charge to abou 100 bucks and we just told them we were going to cancel our service if they charged us so they didn't.

They were a smaller company so they let it go along with another time that they called me telling me that MGM wanted me to not share their movie with others so I told them I'd use the bandwidth I saved not uploading it to download another 3 MGM movies

*EDIT*

just checked my netlimiter logs and its more like 85 down 37 up.

Same here. I download a gig or two per night and usualy keep BT on 24/7. This month has been different because I want to get my ratios up on ************* and empornium so my upload has been a lot better this month.

I have no limit anymore though, I left that company and switched to another one without limits. I have cable here and DSL at my apartment.
