MP3 Player vs CD/RW/MP3 Player
Okay, so I'm little bit behind the times here. My cassette Walkman (it's a Sony) finally crapped out on me, so I'm looking for a portable alternative. The two types I'm considering are: MP3 player and CD/RW/MP3 Player. What are the pros and cons of each type of player?
mp3 player for sure
get a flashed based player...NOT harddrive...battery life sucks on harddrive
i love my irivier ifp 999 - 1gb, wicked play mode, small, fm radio,line-in...$200 bucks..rio's are sweet too....do not get the ipod shuffle.
s
ive got a cd/mp3 player http://news.sel.sony.com/digitalima...photo_id=137558
i love it! its thin, light, looks nice. so its not as small as an mp3 player is, but i can still listen to CDs on it and for 6 months this was my CD player when i was away in holland.
if you're going with an mp3 player, like serge said, go with a flashed based one
I like the small size of the MP3 players and the recording functions on some of them, but I'm put off by the storage sizes. I don't want to get an iPod - too expensive. 1GB is okay size-wise but if you're stuck in a hospital, you pretty much end up listening to the same thing over and over. Some do accept flash memory cards, but those can cost as much as the player itself! Also, transferring MP3s to the player and memory card may be slow and bothersome, if you have to reload them everytime you want something different.

i would prefer an mp3 player for its size and weight.
well i have a 20gb ipod, i am a music whore and i need alot of music with me so i dont have to be trading off sets/tracks all the time.
it lasts and lasts, usually use it for about 5 hours every day but it could go for at lesat 10, keep in mind that is if you do not use the backlight it sucks up ALOT of juice, have it as my alarm clock so i wake up to whatever set i chose.
its not cheap at all, it does weigh in alot more than most mp3 players, although for what it offers, i would pick an ipod 10 fold.
With ipodagent You can have news on it if you want, email, contacts, horiscopes, movie times, any notes.
I have horiscopes, contacts, movietimes, notes, work schedules, lyrics (about 50 of them) tracklistings,
the ipod mini can offer all of this, although u only get 6gb or 4gb, but they are friggin small!
just bought a HiMD, i love it.
1GB lasts me a week before i get tired of the tunes...20gb is just too much i found...hard to even decide what to listen too....512mb a bit small
I also have a 20 Gig Ipod and seriously... I may not listen to some of it ,but its the option of having it there if you want. Plus I have loads of full DJ sets on it with a few 4 hour mixes so a 1 Gig would get me nowhere. They're expensive but totally worth it IMO I think the battery life on mine is at about 8 hours. I'm thinking of upgrading to a better Ipod but i'm just waiting for the right time to get it before something else better comes out!
also u can use your ipod as a hard drive
so if you have any movies, documents, pr0n, or any other files u need from one spot to another and dont want to burn or transfer on the net, the ipod is your best friend
when i worked at an internet cafe i used mine to transfer game servers that i configured at home then brought to the cafe, saves SOOO much time.

I have an iRiver Ihp 120, a 20 gig driver lasts from 10 to 15 hours non stop.
very useful to transfer files too as it is usb2.
Plus you can encode to mp3 on the fly from an line in or optical in source.
Is that faster than transferring with a firewire?

firewire compared to usb2.0 is mostly like seconds
i have my backup hdd on USB 2.0 and it will transfer 4gb in about 3 min or so. depends on how much cpu i have in use.
really the initial load of music will take some time, but that is gaurenteed. then you will just have short bursts of music loaded on as you see fit to put them on your device.
most flash devices will fill up quite fast, then u are stuck with flash cards and they are on usb 2.0 on seperate readers you have to purchase.

mp3 > cd/mp3 any day.
Who really uses cds??
Whether its an ipod, iriver, digitaljukebox, make sure its over 5 gigs and its all good. I got a 15 gig jukebox and it dominates.

i got a 256 meg iriver. its alright, can hold enough for me since i change my favourites constantly. xfers pretty quick, and the screen is dope. has a line, only mono recording though but stlil dope to grab a random set or something. has some radio stuff too, don't use that though so dunno if its good or not.
only bad hting is that its kind of an awkward shape to have in your pocket. it does have a armband thats dope for running/working out though.
battery life is pretty dec, throw some rechargables in there and your set for ~25 hours (?).
8/10
tempted by that ipod shuffle, its fairly cheap and looks a lot more ergonomical for pocket usage.
I am on my second ipod and I love it. You really can't go wrong with the ipod. I personally like to have a lot of space on my ipod and I wouldn't go less than 20gb, it's just so nice to listen to whatever you are in the mood for. I can fill mine up pretty fast with live sets and cds.
I fully recomend the ipod! I have never been so impressed with a product of any kind, it's really that good.
Drop the money its well worth it.
Yup i got a 40gb ipod photo and its the way to go.
