How much do pro DJs practice mixing?

I was always wondering this since, considering they're on the road a lot and receive many promos, etc. that I wasn't sure how often they practiced, just to see what tunes go well together, or to check out a recent promo before playing it live.

Well I consider that kind of playing out. I mean do they ever just fiddle around with some tunes first to see what goes well with what, etc. before playing on the radio or at gigs? :P

They hit their recording studios when they get the chance. I read up that when Digweed has downtime, its not really downtime cuz he is in his recording studio doing exactly what your question asks. These guys basically live and breathe what they do. Which is why it kinda gets to me when people seriously bash these people for the kinda music that they spin and produce. Example #1 would definitely be Tiesto.

I'm not sure I quite get what you're last comment is saying. Do you mean you understand why those people bash these DJs or no?
