Djs Change Genres

has any dj or producer just outta the blue changed genre. Or has it been kinda progressive?

Not being a fan I don't know if this is something that has gradually happened, but Carl Cox has gone from his Techno/Hard House whatever he's famous for to progressive.....

Kinda weird when you turn on the radio to a Carl Cox set, and the first song you hear is Mylo - Drop the Pressure

Picotto..from trance to techno..to trance again!

Posted by Ghostface on Apr-30-2005 10:55:

Fergie went to techno quite quickly after being the wonderchild of hard house.

Both Sasha and Digweed flipped from trance to progressive house between 2000 and the end of 2001. There was some transition period, but not much.

Armin was into house at first but went trance after success of Blue Fear

Posted by Ian on Apr-30-2005 11:35:

carl cox used to play hardcore too, sasha played old skool too back then, Vinylgroover jumped from hardcore to hard house at the start of 2000.

digweed plays a bunch of electro now too and it seems that sasha is heading in that direction as well... as far as i know or have heard

He's been playing what you call "electro house" since about a year back.

Posted by IndustryInsider on Apr-30-2005 15:25:

Micro used to play breaks, then he switched to trance.

Raymond Roker (editor of URB) used to play progressive house and trance in the mid ninties, but switched to drum n bass.

Oaky used to play trance until he decided the best way to "crack the mainstream" would be to play commercial vocal remixes and put out an album with collaborations with artists of every genre under the sun. He lost out in both markets.

It's a shame. I've seen both Sasha and Digweed recently and was disappointed with both. I know it sounds bad, but I wish they would go back to playing their old sound, based on my conversations with people at their shows, that's what the crowd wants.

Tiesto = Hardcore --> Trance

All the people I've talked to that have been to their shows, say the contrary...they want more of the new Sasha and Digweed sound.

Lots of Dutch DJs that used to spin hardcore all jumped on the hardstyle bandwagon some time ago. Some of them still spin hardcore from time to time as well though, and you might even hear the odd techno track from them.

Dana, Luna, Pavo, Gizmo, The Darkraver, The Prophet, it applies to all of them.

Picotto never played trance The "commercial" productions were only for the money.

thats funny i've seen both of them multiple times and the crowd seems to love there sound, as do I, I'd take theprogressive/electro anyday and if you were disappointed with them you probably didnt do your homework and went in expecting fluffy trance or something of that nature

a lot of producers are kinda trying out new phases like with the thrillseekers remix for Evolve - Safe To Dream its kinda nice and bassy

i wish i would've heard his sets before he started delving into trance. sounds interesting.

i hear bad boy bill lost a lot of credibility because he was an innovator of chicago house and quickly changed his style to eurodance when it was popular for it's short period of time. then he changed back to house when it lost its popularity and people got all pissy.

... so i hear, at least.
