Orlando TAs: friend needs help
lol, ok so i have a friend who just moved down to Orlando, seems how he is new he doesn't know whats available to him, so he asked me to help him and i figured there is no place better then TA to turn for help.
Can you guys give me some info on whoes playing where and when, or even some good clubs he can go to?
thanks
Oh boy. Here is that topic again.
If your friend is looking for trance, Orlando has nothing to offer, except Red Square and occasionally Rhythm & Flow, both in downtown Orlando. Speaking of which, click here.
Good clubs in Orlando, there are none. All of them are hip-hop, top 40 shits.
Before Chris and Myles tear me to pieces, the bitter truth is that Orlando scene absolutely sucks atm. Except for occasional nights in small venues size of a bedroom, there is nothing here. On more positive note, check out www.sceneorlando.com for various EDM events in town.
P.S. Oh forgot to mention the local headquarters of SS, otherwise known as House of Blues. They rarely invite major trance talent.

Most of us pack and go to Miami for major events. Or in some case pack and go to Europe.

Here, check out:

for a good idea about what is going on around Orlando. As far as the Orlando scene supposedly sucking at the moment....you are definately gonna have people that feel that way. Orlando is not Miami, and it is not the same town it was 10 years ago. Laws here aren't very friendly to the EDM scene in general. That said there is still alot of good stuff going on. They had LeMoch up at Glo on Saturday, about 400 people attended. Dozia was up at Sky 60. Max Graham/Fischerspooner up at HOB on Friday. But more importantly you have a ton of really good local talent. Everything is what you make of it. It is easy to look at Miami where they have a EDM/club friendlier city and alot more money invested in the scene and write off Orlando, but if you do you're missing out on alot.
If he likes progressive house/breaks tell him to come out to the Haven on Thursdays. I'm having a weekly up there that will be playing stuff you won't hear , for the most part, anywhere else in Orlando. Eleven DJ's are playing at the launch party on the 5th ranging from all genres, it's gonna be crazy! See the flyer at sceneorlando.com.

Orlando is alright... The EDM scene is not that great though. Our "party" station got cut out a couple years ago so the techno scene has really fallen.
Mostly you'll find wack ass breaks. Maybe some house dj's or a good trance dj in a blue moon...
www.enation.org is another site

If you want to look at a reason for a decline in the club scene you can look to the drugs. Orlando really has zero tolerance, which is why all the late night clubs never last. I don't know where the breaks being the major genre idea comes from. Maybe a couple years ago that was true, but anymore I'd say House is becoming the dominate genre. Knock Knock, Sky 60, Ybor's, Crooked Bayou are all only house clubs. Alpha is doing a tribal house night, and their long running Saturday night Breaks night just ended. Thee Grotto is the only club that does breaks most nights of the week. Club Fusion (the old Bank Vault) does one night of breaks. Haven is starting a Progressive night tonight. Peacock Room is mostly House. Aka stopped doing many EDM events at all. Vibe was playing house the one time I walked in. Rhythm and Flow....not sure as I don't walk in much, but I see a trance night posted on here alot. |

| OK, i guess i didn't know about all that... I just focus on the trance stuff mostly, so thats prolly why i never find anything in otown. Hopefully it will get better, some day. Atleast it seems the local clubs are diversifying the tunes some. Still in search of trance though |
Yeah, almost forgot about that one. Orlando's zero tolerance for drugs helps in sinking the scene bigtime. Last night I've been to fusion, DJ Rock played some awesome breaks. When he played a breakbeat remix of Punk, I went nuts. On May 25-th they gonna have DJ Santana a.k.a. Paul, a fellow TA, who spins trance and progressive.
Also, all Orlando TA's, remember that there is always a trance night at Red Square Lounge on Fridays and Saturdays, in D-Town.
How was the crowd at Fusion? Have been meaning to make it out there on a Wednesday but the whole day job thing keeps getting in the way.
It was very crowded. Especially when all break dancers took a nice chunk of the dance floor.
Ugh, yeah, I'm not a big fan of the break dancers. I've been to a couple places before where three guys take literally the whole dance floor and then they get all pissy when you get in their way.
