What mp3 player should I buy?

OK guys, sorry for making a new thread, but I just had to.

My creative zen nx died a couple a days ago, maybe cause Ive dropped it in the ground a couple of times, I dont know... I know I will get a new on the warranty, but ath means I have to wait about 2 months. (currently living in australia, so I have to send it back to norway, then get it fixed and then send it back) by that time I will probalby be home, so jea..

I just cant live without music for about 2 months, thats just impossible, I think I Have to buy a new one, unfortunately

so, the question is, what to buy?
NOT IPOD, get away from this thread at this very moment if you even dear me to buy an ipod !!!!! I might go for creative again, but why not go for something new?
I really liked the navigation system on the creative player, and looking for something similar on my new player. i want it to navigate my artist, genre, album and also be able to search for song. very important that I can choose my songs and just drop them into a tempoarily playlist (just like creative's "add to play")

heres something my new player must have
*at least 20gb, hopefully more
*good battery capasity, at least 12 hours
*good navigation

other thngs
*I dont mind size, but preferably small
*dont have to have colour screen, but ok if it does. actual colours costs more, so no colour if absolute needed..
*good transer speed and of course good sound

I guess that covers it, wouldnt hurt if it also had another mic and optical in. I got about $400 but I can spend more if needed

is iriver the choice, or maybe sony. or creative again?

Get an Iriver.

no exceptions. These babies are voted best in portable mp3 players. A bit more expensive than the average brand, but they give nothing less than superb quality in every department.

I have the iriver cd mp3 player and its lasted me 2 years. And it still looks good as new.

Posted by Lil-H on May-02-2005 13:30:

do you know how the navigation system is on the irivers?
is it also possible to use it with like mediasouce? (creatives itunes, just bettah) so you kan easily change id3 tags and all that?

can someone please answer, I ahve to get a player soon and I also ahve to know how the navigation system on the iriver works..

heres something my new player must have
*at least 20gb, hopefully more - 20GB or 40GB
*good battery capasity, at least 12 hours I've hard charges last more like 16-18hrs
*good navigation Idiotproof. See below

other thngs
*I dont mind size, but preferably small may be a problem. Fits in pocket no problem but it's no Ipod shuffle
*dont have to have colour screen, but ok if it does. actual colours costs more, so no colour if absolute needed..superb colour screen. Can store pictures on it via direct link and makes a great viewing tool if your camera has a shite screen
*good transer speed and of course good sound again very fast with drag and drop mp3

I guess that covers it, wouldnt hurt if it also had another mic and optical in. I got about $400 but I can spend more if needed. No optical in and price could be a sticking point. I paid 350 for mine in December and have a feeling prices have come down a lot since then

Navigation is very easy. use the scrolly G-sense pad on the right to choose by album, artist, genre, group or playlist. Idiotproof

Sony NW-HD3 - I recharge every 3-4days or so. I use it during my commute to work - about 25 min each way and play it at work without the charger...ipod how u like them applez?

I more or less had the same situation as you just recently. My research led me to the iAudio M3L. Check out this review for details. As far as I can tell it's the best mp3 player out there as far as sound quality (95dB SNR, nice EQ effects, supports FLAC & OGG codecs, ...), plus the battery gets 30+ hours from each charge. The interface is a bit different, as it doesn't have a display on the main unit, only on the remote. I actually see this as a plus -- it's always been irritating to have to pull my whole damn iPod out of its case to change tracks and such.

I can't give you any actual experiential feedback yet, because mine isn't arriving until later today or tomorrow.

Edit: Almost forgot to add that iAudio is notoriously great at frequently updating the software for their players.

The creative zen touch and zen micro are very good. Fairly easy navigation system, exceptional sound quality and pretty good battery life. And of course it is compatible with media source.

don't get ANY RCA LYRA. there shit. no matter how cheap there are they always break in a week or two.

iriver h320 or h340 (20 & 40 gig respectively)

im in love with mine, & it seems to fit exactly what youre looking for. a little tough to figure it out, but it quickly becomes intuitive.

Posted by Lil-H on May-04-2005 09:29:

I was wondering about the h340 one (bigger is better) but is it really that good? how is the navigation, by that I mean what choices and opertunities (spelling?) do I get. the "add to playlist" is VERY important.

If you compare the H3x0 to Ih1x0 (x = 20 or 40 gb model) which one turns out better. is it also standard to get a remote with these players?

good feedback folks

and, I laughed really hard with the "how did you like them appleZ"

Why wouldn't you want an iPod? Ease of use? Looks? Screen Display? Please.

Posted by Lil-H on May-04-2005 12:40:

It HAD to be an american saying just joking

I just hate Ipods, dont like the design, battery sucks balls, overprices, you dont get what you pay for. poor options (they've got something to learn from creative) itunes sucks too, dont ahve fm tuner or line in, or recorder or 2 mics. and they dont have usb on the go (connect your camera to the iriver and upload the pictures on to it!) ipods dont have search functions (hope iriver does?)their ipod photo only has 65k colours, while Iriver has 256k. they dont sell remote as standard anymore. getting easy scratched. Ipod and Itunes synchronises so if you delete songs on the ipod, next time they will get deleted on itunes? and its a FRICKING FASHION, Its not cool to have ipod cause everybody else has it. fricking mainstream people.

I think I can think of more negative things about ipod, but lets just continue with what mp3 player I want
thanks

I'm going to be picking up my M3L later today (FedEx delivered at 9 AM when my apartment complex's desk is closed for some reason, so I've got to go pick it up), so I'll let you know how it is.

Posted by Noctone on May-04-2005 21:51:

Huzzah! Got my M3L finally! Seems pretty nice so far. They include a lot of stuff: headphones (if you need them), case, docking station, cables, etc. Navigating the menus is pretty easy. So far looks like a winner to me.

Posted by Joost on May-04-2005 22:13:

Go for an iPod. I got an fourth generation iPod, it fits me like a glove. 20 gigs of space, is sufficient for me. I really like the simple interface (designed by a dutch Industrial Design student, or so I'm told ;-) ) and the sound quality is also outstanding (not just my opinion, it has been tested as one of the best, together with iRiver several times).

Only downside is maybe the cost (about 350 dollar) and the battery life (Apple claim 12 hours, but in fact it's more like 8-9 hours).

Does anyone have any comments on why I should not buy iriver h340? I can find it for $550 (australian that is) plus shipment, I think thats a really good price.

I think im going for that one

Go for it. Most people I know who own an iriver are extremely happy with theirs.

Schedule to record TV shows and movies automatically, then rewatch them on the color screen. Listen to hours upon hours of music, etc. If you dont want to spend that much money they make a different model that is a bit smaller and cheaper.

another thing is that all the people actually have an ipod they use those white headphones because it says: I have an ipod. Honestly, they cant be much of a music lover when they use that kind of crap. buy something better.

Yup, thanks for advice folks, I might go for the iriver.
I dont want to buy a multimedia player, I think the iriver does it for me

Wow, you're quick to judge someone based on how they listen to their music.
