looking for a good freeware cd ripper.

i came across freerip but i don't like the freedb thing coz it's not working right.

of course there's itunes, but it's big and comes with unnecessary crapz0rs.

if anybody knows of something smaller, that can do ID3 tags automatically, let me know.

Posted by Aesthetic on May-06-2005 03:38:

i used to use this shithot program named audiograbber, but its neither freeware nor (from memory) does the id3 tags

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on May-06-2005 04:14:

yeah, audiograbber rocked, until i upgraded to XP that is. is there an xp version out and about these days? cbf looking

Posted by BinaryRefined on May-06-2005 04:18:

to cut my mp3 sets or cds into tracks when ive got the cue file, i use this program: Mp3 Direct Cut

download it here: http://www.mpesch3.de/
http://www.simtel.net/product.downl...rs.php?id=80920

to search for cue files i use these two sites:

http://www.regeert.nl/cuesheet/
http://music.anuga.se/?inc=latest

the first site has a 'create' link which lets you type in your own times for tracks in a set and it creates the cue sheet for u!

I think it might do ID3's, i dunno...it's the most accurate ripper of CDs on out there - freeware too

Filename editing with local and remote CDDB database and cdplayer.ini support and more features like ID3 tagging

works for me! checking it out now. thx.

EDIT: ah ghey. it's freedb also and port blocked by internal security.

bloody wmp can get the tracklistings though. wtf.

Posted by flutlichtaddict on May-06-2005 06:14:

whats the best cd ripper to use (free ofcourse) i used audiograbber and it was a bit shit for me, had skips in it every few minutes

Posted by Nyquist_Theorem on May-06-2005 06:19:

best ripper = cdex

its freeware, google for cdex and off you go.

best mp3 util = psychicmp3. will name your mp3s just by guessing what they are (if they're albums in folders). has to be seen to be believed if you collect whole albums. also freeware.

itunes beat the internal firewall, so ripping a few cds now. w00t.

not a fan of the lack of options for importing though.

man I so suck so badly with computers. I tried burning a live set the other with a cue sheet and had no idea how. Anf will you come over one day and give Sid a tutorial

Posted by eRRaTiK on May-06-2005 07:56:

yeh sid no probs man.

i assume you've got nero right?

make sure you have both cue file and music file in the same directory, and also that the cue file doesn't point to any directories that don't exist (open it up in a text editor like notepad to check it out).

for example:

code:
PERFORMER "DJ Soups" FILE "download_my_mix.mp3" MP3

GOOD.

code:
PERFORMER "DJ Soups" FILE "c:\random\directory\download_my_mix.mp3" MP3

BAD.

You can modify the cue file and delete any reference to directory.

Once that's done...

>> Follow this tutorial << and let me know how you go.

There's also a >> cue file tutorial << in the COR but the above site is easy to understand, has pics, and gets the job done.

Thanks Anf, starting to get the jist of it.

How would I go about creating my own cue sheet?

ie I have this file which I wanna seperate into tracks:

01-mark_holmes-live_at_oslo_nights_april-2005-1real-djmixes2k.com

ok creating a cue sheet and splitting the file into individual tracks are two different things.

creating a cue sheet

with winamp - use mp3cue
without winamp - use cue sheet compiler

links to both apps in the first post of this thread.

alternatively you can create one from notepad (if you cbf). refer to the cue tutorial in the COR for more info on how .cue files work.

splitting a file

ok you'll need a cue sheet.

1. either download an existing cue (search the sites listed by BinaryRefined and/or check out the tracklist forums here on TA) or create one using any of the methods/tools listed above.

2. get musiCutter. small, free and easy to use. just select the file, select the cue sheet, define your output directory and voila!

Dunno

anyone know of any application(s) that can rip a cd to single file (instead of individual tracks)?

Posted by Pointy on Jun-14-2005 06:29:

Once again Exact Audio Copy ^^ as i mentioned before

Just open it up, CD data loads then click on the "IMG" button on the left. BTW, if it fucks the rip up - try this.. go to EAC Menu top left -> Drive Options and try changing the drive read command to "Read Command MMC1 "

Catch
