Band of Brothers

Anyone like this series? I've got the box set. I Think its a great series, like a 10 hour long Saving Private Ryan.

huh? He said there's a new one being made, thats what I was commenting about. I watched Band of Brothers over a year ago when it started playing here; didn't see all the episodes so I wouldn't mind watching it all again.

Really, and why is that mister political, and military advisor?

I've had friends taken from combat because they were sole survivors.

A new serie of the pacific islands!? Know what its called? Got a link?

Posted by Dervish on May-06-2005 22:39:

Is it based on the same guys books?

Band of Brothers is certainly one WW2 film that has stayed true to events. One could learn more from a series like that than the whole of a secondary school history teaching.

Best WW2 series ever

Yup, love this series. I never used to like war movies/shows but i watched an episode out of a mate's box set and was hooked. I still need to buy the boxset my self...damn expensive just now.

I loved Band of Brothers so much. It's so hard to watch the concentration camp episode though..

I absolutely love Bill Garnier. "There's somethin down there in that town called Germans. And they'd like to kill us! So if you wanna go knockin on the gawwwd-damn doors, go right ahead!"

To the best of my knowledge Stephen Ambrose never wrote about the Pacific front. To be honest, I wasn't really enamored with Band of Brothers (the book not the series ... the series was fucking awesome). If you're looking for a better read, I would pick up Citizen Soldiers. Truly a classic that's far more comprehensive and stylistically rewarding when it comes to detailing the genuine sacrifices rendered by seemingly ordinary people at a time which demanded great sacrifice.

They would never have sent a group of soldiers to rescue one guy. That's rediculous, why would they risk the lives of those soldiers for one guy? It doesn't make any sense.

I sense this thread is gonna turn gay because of ppl talking about a load of bollocks. Stick to the fucking series called Band Of Brothers and how amazingly good it is/was

What amazed me is the amount of actors who are relatively unknown who put in magnificent acting roles, I thought the acting was top notch.

Posted by n0bben on May-07-2005 20:33:

band of brothers is just awesome. the best stuff i've ever seen regarding ww2, so realistic. great acting as well. i still remember most scenes, especially from bastogne.

by the way, in saving private ryan, they say FUBAR numereous times. wierd, because i've read that the word was created during the vietnam war..? can anyone confirm

Posted by Simcut on May-07-2005 20:40:

hehe, both of those films were filmed near where I used to live (Hatfield)

Really? Amazing.. today thats the job of Special Forces, Rangers, Pararescue, Marines, Force Recon, SEALs, DELTA. Although thats not their main job thats part of what they do.

Efforts to save one man are always done. Our motto has, and always will be "Leave no man behind". Period. That motto may defy logic but thats what we do, and thats what was instilled in our minds since boot camp. No one gets left behind.

The story behind this movie is true, but there was no real rescue effort for Niland because no one had a clue where he was. He finally walked back after some time and was told "we've been looking for you" by some Chaplain.

possibly one of the best war movies of all time.

extremely accurate, and detailed to the max.

the one thing i really noticed a lot, was how the main character (i forgot his name) looked about 20 in the first episode, and looked damn near 45 by the end. it's phenominal how war ages you
